Practiced for 4 straight years without playing any tournaments and won his first tournament he entered. One of the top 5 players of all time!

i remember watching him, for the first time as a boy, when he played in the us open, at baltusrol, in '67. no one knew who he was, and he didn't even have enough money to stay in a hotel, when he played there. he finished about fifth, and then went on the following year to win the open, with i believe being the only player to shoot four rounds in the 60's at the us open.

Lee was a big fan and friend of Moe Norman and it's interesting to see how similar their swings are from the down stroke through the ball. Being self-taught can have its advantages.

My favorite golfer!!! Just love the guy and his natural ability. Reminds me of one of my best friends, Joe Tucker, who was a fast ball pitcher in Alabama....who could play with the best , including the King and His Court!!

I was at the Canadian Open at Glenn Abbey in the early 70's. As I was watching the pros on the practice range a pleasant man came up to me and asked if I was enjoying the Open.After a bit of golfing small talk to my surprise Payne Stewart came up to us and said Moe can you help me with a couple of things on the practice range.Little did I know I had been talking to the golfing legend Moe Norman. A good friend of Lee Trevino who won the Canadian Open 3 times..

Lee is one of the three or four best ball strikers of all time. Even Nicklaus spoke of believing that Hogan and Trevino were the best strikers he had ever seen. These experts know what they are talking about, especially John Jacobs.

Lee Trevino, Fred Couples, Jack and Arnie my four favorite golfers. All had unique swings, which made them stand out and be great. If Fred's back had not given him so much trouble, he would have won a whole lot more.

Trevino was good at all aspects of the game, but what set him apart from his rivals was his wedge play. He was, hands down, the best wedge player that has ever lived.

I believe pre the computer stats very modern era, Dave Peltz had data showing proximity to the hole from 100 yards - and Trevino was by far #1 - it wasn't even close. Not sure if I remember correctly but I believe he averaged 8 feet - just astounding. The #2 guy was 11 feet and then the rest of the top 10 were 13-14 feet. He's basically 60% closer at 100 yards than the next 9 best guys on planet earth - that's crazy.

Trevino had guts and brains. He was only 5'7, 185 pounds, but he built his swing to match his size. Head-to-head he beat Jack Nicklaus 4 times out of 5 in majors. In his career he won 2 US Opens, 2 British Opens, 2 PGA's. On the Senior Tour he won 4 more majors. Not bad for a guy who came from dire poverty and no lessons.

by similar - check some of the freeze frames at say around 2:19. Both squatted down, square to the ball, club bisecting their arms. At impact Lee is lifting his right heel and has a bit more hip rotation, but Moe was 'hitting into his legs' especially when he was younger, more pendulum than around his body. The natural golf analysis of Moe's swing leaves a lot to be desired since they promote 'dead legs' and a swing that can't be connected to Moe apart from the fee when they paid him to shill.
@imacfunk
@imacfunk 14 жыл бұрын
@CEO1451 as I said in my original post "it's interesting to see how similar their swings are from the down stroke through the ball" not take away, or 'exactly the same'. Moe was definitely not a single plane swing, he took it away inside then came back on a different plane to strike the ball. His release was past the ball at about the 5 - 4 o'clock position. His legs, specifically knees were always very active. His later swing dropped a lot of unnecessary motion and focused more on the strike.

You know, when I hear the utter condescension from these "experts" (here Harmon and Kostis), I just smile knowing they are "paid to just talk", but couldn't compete in (much less win) a serious golf tournament if their lives depended on it.

I think Trevino was once asked why he didn't have a swing coach, and he replied: "I haven't found one who could beat me yet." I love the fact that the previous generation of pro golfers like Trevino were self made.

compare Lees short game to Tigers, Lees was 10 time better than Tigers, because of what Kostis said about it, Tiger wouldn't be able to manipulate the wedge with his hands the way Lee did

@tenillechristine so i'm ott almost right, or what do you mean "on the downswing" trevino and couples drop it inside on the way down, so are you saying I'm swinging down the line on the downswing then?

see, the thing with me is, I also tend to have an out to in loop (which i call my couples loop) and I don't have to aim left, I can aim straight and hit it straight to slightly right to left, is that bad that is doesn't fade for me?
