Thank you so much, this clarifies all the confusion that I had towards writing creative nonfiction. The structure of switching between story and information is something I have not used before, and I am going to use it to make my writing more compelling.

This video explained CNF’s to me a lot more and made me less scared to try out a work of CNF. The way he explained it seemed to make more sense about style and information constantly switching off. The main point of CNF is to try to teach the reader something through story using narrative to make information as compelling as possible. You try to captivate the reader in many different ways and narratives to keep them interested and entertained while teaching them about something new. Writing a CNF is something that I think you need experience on especially due to the fact that you need to gain a sense of feeling when the reader is involved enough to feed them information and when to go back to the story in order to grab their attention again.

This style + information pattern is something I fell into naturally with my blog. My usual film review structure is: Intro = hook/style, Plot summary + table of information about the film = information, Review = style.

I would also encourage everyone to look into ethnography, it is a style that binds together social sciences and humanities to deliver scholarly research in a creative perspective.

I really appreciate the fact that the video gave a more detailed structure of CNF it definitely gave me a better understanding of this. I still feel like this would be a bit strange for me to do but I really think that this video is a good resource for me to come back to later on when I have to write one!

I'm new to writing creative nonfiction, and this was one of most detailed explanations I have heard. It makes it clear how I should start writing my first creative nonfiction piece, but the way that it is structure is still a little confusing to me as you are constantly switching between story and information to both captivate and teach the reader.

I have an idea for writing a non-fiction book focusing on isolated islands and alternative societies, such as utopian, socialist, and religious communes that have existed throughout history and even to this day!

How long do you think a CNF book should be? I wrote one but it's only just over 20k words.

I find the vast majority of this style of writing unreadable. I usually prefer the style typical of structured academic research. Only extremely rarely do I find the story approach to be compelling. Most of the time it makes my eyes roll and I just want them to get to the point. Every piece of crap I read is structured like this. It takes a breathtakingly brilliant mind to make a compelling story, I find. It's extremely rare that something written like that turns out to be anything but a complete waste of my time. It is really going to change your audience. If you write like this, your audience is probably full of people who have a lot of spare time on their hands and very little knowledge about the topic. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but you should be aware that you are not talking to the smartest people who value their time when you write like this.
