leek and onion scones with a lovely soup

These scones were so nice anyway but with soup made a lovely meal
We did add a couple of rashers of bacon to this soup that I noticed weren’t on the video. Sorry I missed filming it 🤷‍♂️
This recipe comes from Northumberland, which borders Tyne & Wear, where a leek scone is served with a steaming bowl of soup, or with cheese, in place of bread or biscuits.
Ingredients cooked at 220c for 10-15 minutes
for ten scones. We cut this in half and made four triangular scones
1 tbsp olive oil
1 large leek, cleaned and finely chopped (you can use the whole leek)
1 small onion, finely chopped
Pinch of caster sugar
450g self-raising flour
2 tsp baking powder
Pinch of salt
115g butter, cubed
250ml milk

hi graham, what a lovely change those scones with the leek and onion will make with the home made soup. that little book is magic, ive made scones with cheese before, but these would be wonderful. i suspect they would fill his lordship up , a great change from rolls or bread and butter. we have got to go to london tomorrow as his lordship has to have an operation to remove the cancer from his ear so soup and scones that i can make tonight will be really welcome to come home to , i hope you both are keeping well xxxxxx

Hi Vince, now there’s a surprise. These scones are supposed to come from your “neck of the woods”. The scones with soup does make a nice change although it’s a bit more effort. I think when your bus arrives it will be pie and mash, not soup. Well it’s a long journey mate. 👋👋👋👋👍
