"Some Pis were broken in the course of making this video" hehe... that's the first time I've seen a case add on an integrated RTC battery. I haven't put together my own yet, but I hope to this week. Now I have a nice cheat sheet for my build! Some very weird bits on here, like those giant pogo pins for the power button adapter board :D

@@leepspvideo I've come to realize that linking both ways on things like code repositories to documentation sites is very useful. I think some people silo their work and don't think to put a reciprocal link so people coming at it from the code can get to the documentation (and vice-versa!).

I thought the Pogo-pins were a bit weird, too - like if they are being used to run current through, will they get carbon deposits over time?

As you suggested Lee, I dismantled it all and added a thermal pad onto the RP1 chip (which is under the heatsink plate) and it has considerably reduced its running temperature.

I just built one of these a week ago. On mine I couldn't screw in the NVMe board, the screws were too short. It's just hanging by the rivet. It's darn cute tho. I made it into a mini console emulation box.

Really love this case but was a bit disappointed with the industrial finish for the price: Eg. External screw holes not countersunk to make a smooth appearance and lots of gaps. I fixed my issues by making surfaces flat & wrapping the side & top with a fake carbon fiber wrap.

@terrydaktyllus13203 ай бұрын
I agree. I can pick up a used SFF PC on your favourite auction site for £50 right now - it will have a 3rd or 4th generation Core i5 or i7 CPU in it, 4 or 8GB RAM and will blow any Pi 5 out of the water for speed and power. And for about half the cost when you factor in the cost of the Pi, cooling and even a cheap case. The Pi was great as a cheap £35 board to have on an electronics workbench, to teach kids to program on or just to teach yourself about Linux. Unfortunately, pandering to the people who believe the Pi should be a desktop replacement and demanding more and more power from it with each upgrade has just made it too expensive where the economics no longer work for it.
