Overland Out and About

Күн бұрын

This was my 2nd attempt to get from Strawberry California to Murphys California off road. Last time I started in Murphys and had to turn around half way trough due to crazy trails. This time I started from Strawberry California, pushed trough some crazy narrow and rutted trails and made it all the way trough. On the way I saw beautiful views, had a chance to drive on scenic trails, and all and all had a blast.

Grew up in Columbia.... driven ALL those trails over the years..... and YES, it's a lot like "Deliverance". There are 'gowers' up therre around Jupiter that guard their property with firearms, always take a saw, shovel, and ax with you to take care of downed trees, etc., and ignore your paint job.....most of the roads aren't that bad, but 4WD is recomended.... and clearance. Found a Subaru abandoned back there once; stripped and beated to death...... maybe I'll head out there again after it cools down.... proba ly late Setember or October..... too hot right now....

I don't have a saw with me, I generally winch threes out of the way if I need to (assuming they are not huge). And I wear the off-road pinstripes with honor 😄

At and before 15:00 shows indications of having been an old standard gauge logging railroad. It is signified by through cuts, light grade and easy curves. The railroad went across Beardsley Dam during the 1950's and into the 1960's. It went almost to Highway 4 near Calaveras Big Trees State Park.

Great video I called those itchy scratchy trails. I know the feeling when you make a turn. Avoid something in here that long scratch just part of the deal. Glad you made it through. OK didn't have to backtrack too long. Thanks for the video Semper Fi.

We did it from HWY 4 north of Arnold, CA. Just east of Calaveras Big Trees park. All the way over to Strawberry. All dirt roads that your van could do. We were on motorcycles. Nothing hard. Then back again to Murphys. We were camping at Calaveras Big Trees. HWY 4, a lot of fun OHV stuff. There are some seriously difficult OHV trails in this area. Utica reservoir. Slick rock trail. Back in the day, Utica reservoir was a great place to 4 wheel into and camp.

It looks like you had a great weekend. It would be nice if you were a little more accurate as to your starting point... I was looking all around hwy 50 near Tahoe because that's the only Strawberry I know of. And I still don't know where you were... but it was cool. After map searching I found the area, somewhat?

Murphys Crossing is on Hwy 4. Hwy 4 will take you up to the Bear Valley ski resort. closed there in the winter. From HWY 4 up to HWY 98 is the Deer Creek Trail. This is a very hard rated trail. Drops you out by Kirkwood ski area. to the east, Hope Valley.

@@OverlandOutAndAbout I'm in San Jose myself. I don't have anything to Overland in so I keep to the civilized roads but if you want scenery, further up Sonora Pass has some really beautiful landscapes. I discovered Twin Lakes near the Bridgeport area last year and the drive out on Twin Lakes Road blew me away. I look forward to watching more of your videos. Cheers😁

I was about to say this. I've been in some remote Stanislaus forest and seen guys who looked very sketchy. I spoke to a sheriff deputy and he confirmed the cartel operates out of there. For the most part they will leave campers and travelers alone. Just use caution.
