And I didn't have to engage 4x4 at all on this trip, so any 2wd with a bit of clearance will be able to easily do this.

It's unconstitutional to be in such a nice spot and, in such a great weather, and not have one...cheers 🍻

You missed it! You’ll have to go back now. At that first campsite you stopped at 7N76Y, you have to keep going on foot where the road ends. It turns into a single track trail and goes down to the top of the dome. You’ll come out of the trees to a huge vista. Keep walking down and you’ll be on the summit of a huge granite dome. It’s like a private Half Dome where you can see for a hundred miles in almost every direction. That campsite is frequented and maintained by Rock Climbers who climb the 2,500ft dome. One of my favorite places on earth. Like having a private Yosemite Valley all to yourself. You can get to the bottom and reservoir by taking Ellis rd off of HWY 88. From the bottom you will be able to see just how massive the domes really are.

You are welcome. It's really nice there, it's about 3 hours drive from where I live and there are so many trails to explore.

We really enjoy your videos! We just bought an off road trailer and are looking for places to take it and trying to figure out dispersed camping. We just spent a week around Calaveras Big Trees and can’t wait to get out again! Thanks!

Thank you. That whole area is a maze of trails and beautiful scenery...soon it's all going to be under several feet of snow, so now is the time to explore it.

@@OverlandOutAndAbout Absolutely, 100%. My parents live in Calaveras county so we are over there quite a bit. My wife does not do cold weather well so we might try exploring north of us, during the winter, up into the Mendocino county area, it seems like there are quite a few places to try there as well.

Yes very True. Im always picking up trash left near trails from the back country in the Sierra
@OverlandOutAndAbout4 ай бұрын
I didn't see any trash in the area I camped that night, but yes, many places have "reminder" of those who were not raised right.

Love the videos, love the attitude and still loving the van. At the 25:00 mark is that a motorcycle following you? Looks kind of eerie.
@OverlandOutAndAbout5 ай бұрын
Thank you. Yes that was a motorcycle that was trying to pass but it took me a few minutes to notice him.

i have been in this area a lot ( i live in calaveras county) but these trails i have been on a mt bike, a duel sport motor bike, my cj-7. and even a 3/4 ton truck ( long bed) surprising people i could get said truck through with No damage. great place in the summers, if you like to snow shoe great in the winters. but hat a spot on each in your party in the winters, or if you go off trail.

Yes that whole area is great with beautiful scenery. I've been there a couple of times in the snow back in 2015 when I still had the Nissan Xterra (there are 1-2 videos on the channel from those trips)

It depends what you are looking for. If you want a fairly easy weekend, with great views and great camping spots, Calaveras Dome trail will definitely scratch that itch.

Overlanding? Do you mean car camping? I guess I've been trendy since before it was trendy!
@OverlandOutAndAbout2 күн бұрын
Camping is one part of it, exploring different trails and landscape is another part of it...but the name is not important, anyone can call it whatever they want.
@KirbyLouis5 ай бұрын
15:26 this(your videos) is straight up and down base line "overlanding", its gotten so bloated and commercialized, that people have forgotten what overlanding really is... its just truck hiking, but people are so concerned with making overland videos look like an Interstellar deleted scene. your videos and a few others like @alwaysoverlanding @4wdadventurecrew and @campoutwestus show the true spirit of "overlanding"... AND you guys share locations or coordinates, most others like to gatekeep like they live in these spots full time
@OverlandOutAndAbout5 ай бұрын
I'm 100% with you on that one. Overlanding is a simple fun, exploration, and off-roading outdoors, I do like and watch other creators but I can't stomach "meaning of life" and "spiritual" and "life advice" when all I want to see is offroading, exploration, etc.
