I'm glad to see you struggle! Screen printing is not easy, as you know, and your struggles show the real process. Great videos! I've learned more in two of your Learning to Screen videos showing you making mistakes than watching hours of other people's error-free, gloss over the gritty details videos. Subscribed!

I know this video is kind of old. But, I personally don't like to use a pressure washer for washing out. For reclaiming a screen, yes. But I have a normal spray nozzle for washing out.

👏killer set up my braddah. Just a little FYI I got a tip to let my screens dry until its moisture free, I was having the same issues then I let sit 8hrs and problem solved. I live in WA so we have high humidity so I turned my space heater on in the garage, set 8hrs, doubled up transparency for more opaque, burned 2 minutes, and it washed-out easy no pressure washer only sink hose.

Bless you Sweetie.....thank you for showing all the problems you had as i now know that i am going to start with the heat press. Im a total newbie and perfectionist myself so wow it does look easier than it is on other channels but they have been doing screening for a lot long than us. Ive been in the haidressing industry 30 years and i can do a haircut with my eyes closed (not literally but you know what i mea) A year will pass quicker than you think and by then your laugh at these beginning videos because by then your be able to screen print a t-shirt with ease. I cant wait when i can do that aswell :O)

Great job just a few things I noticed since I had to learn the hard way if you use a pressure washer to wash out your screens you need to over harden your screens ( just use a regular water hose sprayer that way your exposure time will be lower just post harden the screen when it's dry) but I promise your doing 100x better than when I first started keep it up
@leestuart38
@leestuart38 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks man. I figured out thankfully that it was my exposure unit itself causing the problem, it was flickering off and on with the lid closed so I was barely getting any exposure. It's new so something must have just rattled loose during shipping, because I fixed it and now everything works perfect. Now I'm getting perfect screens with minimal effort 🙌🏻

the thickness of your emulsion was what made it expose too long. After I coat a screen (1 pass each side print side first) I go back and dry pass to get any extra emulsion off the screen. makes things such easier.
@RookieMistakeYT
@RookieMistakeYT 3 жыл бұрын
You probably figured out what it was and I may be wrong but if you wet your screens first after exposing and let the emulsion soften, you’ll begin to see the ghost image of your design. Then you can wash out and it makes life easier. Also im like 75% sure your power washer is pefect for washing out ink and emulsion but not for washing out an exposure. Just use a typical hose nozzle 🙌🏼 Also it’s better to overexpose than underexpose on the light table. I usually always let my screens cure overnight (if I have the luxury) and then expose on the longer side. Awesome series!!

I'm not going to lie, I'm glad you struggled. I have the same mindset as you. I am overconfident and immediately said to myself "That looks easy. I'll nail it on my first try." Screen printing is a lot harder than it looks. I was under the same assumption as a lot of people, that you can just slap some ink on a shirt with a squeegee and that's the end of it. Well as you saw I got reality checked pretty quick haha.

thinner coat of emulsion. dualcure requires more time from the getgo. photo less (i get 10 seconds on home made setup, i dry for an hour and burn for 10 seconds, then wash and use screen hardener for waterbased) wash from garment side, wet screen, wait a few seconds, then wash out use dehumidifier if youre not to dry on the colors.. try "pulling" the green color and push the white color. sometimes depending how off it is that will line it up too much off contact will get your reg off watch your angles, you can move the mesh with too much pressure and too much angle photoshop shrink first layer by 1-2 pixels or expand overlay colors hope i didnt reveal too much :)

Is your exposure unit using a yellow light ? Because yellow lights keep the Emulsion from Hardening. They are light sensitive so the bright light hardens the emulsion
@NickARMartin
@NickARMartin 5 жыл бұрын
I think that what might be causing your super long exposure times is the "paper" that you're printing your images on. I noticed that it is slightly cloudy and not totally clear. This could be limiting the amount of light that is getting to your emulsion and causing ti to take waaayyy longer than the directions say. I too am learning this process so I could be totally wrong but I figured I'd throw in my two cents

Nice workshop.. its like you can fall slipped for walking on them. you posting this video at Jan 19 I assume that you still need some advise. I am not as pro as hell but nice to share how i'am doing it. 20 minutes? you way way over exposure it. try 2-5 minutes depens on emulsion characteristic and light of your exposure unit and you dont have to use jet spray cz it to much push and can easily ruin everything. use spray on low to medium pressure. it's very easy once you get use to it. passion and experiment is the best way to learn. :D
@skylineprintco392
@skylineprintco392 6 жыл бұрын
Those exposure times seem long for that exposure unit. I'd try their cryocoat emulsion, you should get exposure times in the 45 to 90 second range. Also, not sure how long you're letting the screen soak after initially wetting them but let em sit for about 1 minute and then wash em out from the print side, not the squeegee side. Nice setup btw
@leestuart38
@leestuart38 6 жыл бұрын
I figured out the problem was actually the exposure unit itself, about half of the bulbs were flickering on/off when the lid was closed, something I couldn't see with it open and luckily caught it out out of the corner of my eye. It's new so something must have just rattled loose during shipping because I pulled the bulbs, cleaned the contacts and everything works perfect now. Now me exposure times are exactly where they need to be and my washout is like 15 seconds max. I also got some chromablue photopolymer so now I'm dialing that in and I love it so far. Thanks man! 🤘🏻

Lee Stuart what was the issue with the exposure unit that was causing the problem? Just wet both sides of the screen, let it sit for 2 minutes, then use the shower setting on a garden sprayer and the emulsion stencil will fall right out (is exposed correctly lol). I use the flat setting for stubborn parts. Just don't use the power washer to wash out an image...that's only needed for reclaiming...it's meant to blow the emulsion through the screen. Is the registration off from screen stretch when printing? Or is it the design on the screen itself. Haven't worked in screen printing in a long time but registration was a bitch between layers if too much pressure was applied on one application or the other.
@leestuart38
@leestuart38 6 жыл бұрын
I definitely was applying way more pressure than I needed, but I was having other issues too that I thankfully solved in part 3

Do you go out and record a bunch of intro B roll in bulk or do you do it for every video individually?
@leestuart38
@leestuart38 6 жыл бұрын
I try to record it in bulk when I know I'll be busy. Otherwise I do it on a video to video basis so it flows with the content

Don't use a pressure washer to wash out the screens, you shouldn't need to! Also what exposure unit are you using? Led? You mite be better with a photopolymer emulsion, less exposure time, not as much leeway but better in the long run.
@leestuart38
@leestuart38 6 жыл бұрын
I'm already a member haha. I figured out my problem and it was a weird one. I'm using a Ryonet x-vactor so it's a really nice and powerful unit. I figured out some of the bulbs were flickering off when the lid would close, something must have rattled loose during shipping because it's brand new. I fixed that and now I'm having perfect screens in short times 🙌🏻

Lee are you on FB? I know you probably don't have the time but then again I figured you might use FB for sales. I just needed to ask you some questions, totally screen-printing related, that I had rather not air out if you know what I mean. There's money involved and other things I'd just rather keep as low profile as possible. But if your not comfortable with that I completely understand. Nothing illegal or anything like that. I was a Deputy Sheriff for 20 years. Not that that means anything but it doe's to me. Just let me know Buddy and as before thanks for the video's. You do an awesome job my Friend!!
