Thanks again for having me be part of the video! It still makes me mad that this game was the first exposure to the Front Mission series for many people. Thank god for the Forever Entertainment remakes giving the series a new lease on life, and exposing the series more to Western audiences, even if they can be a bit rough around the edges.

Front Mission 3 was/is the only game in the series I played but oh man I loved the hell out of it I remember first playing a demo, part of a sampler disk that came with Vagrant Story, and I dumped HOURS into playing that demo over and over. Eventually I got the full game and was just blown away by the amount of customization and combat options (capturing enemy wanzers, etc). Just an amazing experience

This kind of reminds me of a game called "Run Like Hell". It was supposed to be a horror game similar to Doom 3, and was released on the original Xbox before said game. The story of the game, while not amazing, is actually fairly well designed. It focuses on a former soldier turned researcher on a space station with various alien species who goes out to do his research stuff. When he returns, the station is infested with a fleshy substance that is sort of like John Carpenter's The Thing mixed with the Prototype games: It can mimic the speech and appearance of others (although it never does this to trick anyone, just to gain their knowledge) and it grows in size the more biomass it eats. The main character teams up with numerous survivors (including an alien who is a part of the species that was on the opposite side of the war), and the entire group tries to save his wife and stop the infestation. The game ends on a cliffhanger implying a sequel. The game is horrifically bad in gameplay for four reasons 1. Some guns you can never find ammo for, so when you use them up, they're done 2. Enemies have simplistic AI and just run at you. Some big guys can even get stuck in doors. Some don't even have death animations, they just shatter like glass 3. Bosses are broken, hitboxes are a mess, and your inventory crafting allows you to accidentally craft duplicate guns. 4. The textures, and some models, are just so poorly made. The reason the game's story works but the gameplay sucks so bad is because Interplay (the publisher) got Breaking Benjamin (Yes, the band) to do some of the soundtrack. They didn't feel a horror atmosphere would fit BB's musical style, so the devs were forced to change the game in a single year, toning down the horror elements, introducing more enemies with less health over stronger enemies but fewer in number, altering the gameplay to include a worthless dodge mechanic, and including numerous high-action gameplay sequences. The publisher effectively screwed the game over in its entirety in an effort to sell the game with Breaking Benjamin attached. Needless to say, the game is a flop. I remember playing it when I was a teenager and liking the story but slogging through the game itself.

Sounds like an early attempt of the game Prey where you had to deal with a Symbiote like shapeshifter that could mimic objects and attack you on a space station. But Prey did it way better from what I've heard.

That's interesting, a lot of that story sounds similar to the plot of the original trilogy of Halo games (hell, even Breaking Benjamin did a song for the soundtrack of Halo 2). The story and atmosphere sounds really good, almost like a cross between Halo and Dead Space. Too bad the game plays like garbage from the sound of it.

The sad part to me, is that on paper, a spin-off of a mech series where you control a soldier or a squad of soldiers who are basically forced to try to avoid/deal with mechs without one of their own would be interesting, (Like if a Halo game existed where you played as the Marines and made you feel how much more vulnerable you are compared to a Spartan.) to show how utterly bonned regular infantry has become in a psuedo-horror way. Too bad the game basically became a very bad stealth game with possibly one of the worst implementations of New Game+ ever it seems.

At least one good take away from this review was learning more about the Front Mission series. I only ever owned 4 on the PS2 but didn't play much of it but had no idea that so few of the games actually came over to the US and even more so for Europe. I can't get over how they had to patch in a tutorial and basic things like headshots 😆

This reminds me of Terminator: Resistance, since both have stealth, crafting, a hostile world, robots disguised as humans, and is part of a franchise (though from different mediums). The difference is that T:R is good. Stealth has a detection meter, perks to reduce detection speed, and the ability to see enemies through walls. It has a mini map that clearly lays out usable routes (if something is blocked, story progress will unblock it), items of interest, and hostile enemies. And while it does have reused maps, they're used sparingly and rearranged in good ways. Don't be fooled by the bad review scores. Despite being made by the devs behind the Rambo game, it's a complete 180 in terms of quality. There was actual passion and respect for the series in it, and it shows. Taking the overwhelming majority of inspiration from the first two films helps.

This game feels like it was designed by people who hate stealth games. Fun fact about Resident Evil item boxes real quick: there's a special mode in the RE1 remake called Real Survival that makes them work exactly like they do in this game, with no interconnection between them. Which they explain as being a nod to early prototypes of the original game. It ended up being changed because testers went "this kinda sucks". So Left Alive is aping off of a *rejected* idea from a more popular series.

Rule of thumb... With VERY few exceptions, never trust a stealth game that's not part of the Metal Gear, Tenchu, Splinter Cell, Hitman, or Thief series. (I'm talking about games where stealth is the point, not those like the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy where stealth is optional.)

I agree. I learned this the hard way with Dark for Xbox 360. I thought a stealth game where you play as a vampire would be fun. I was wrong, very wrong. Tenchu deserves a comeback. Sekiro Shadows Die Twice doesn't count.

This game just reminds me why I adore Dishonor as a stealth game. Good controls, the powers make you very mobile and capable of covering huge amounts of distance rapidly, and you aren’t a pathetic little weakling. Sure Corvo, Daud and Emily arent built for frontline battle, but you can kill enemies in one hit, use guns and crossbows to attack from a distance and you can use your powers to escape, distract or turn things to your advantage

12:38 Not only did you lose a deluge of Health from that blast, but got an additional chunk chipped away while unable to move, just to tick you off further. For all of Resident Evil 6’s flaws (and there are a TON), the game allowed you options when being knocked back such as rolling back to your feet, staying on ground and opening return fire, rolling to the side to possibly avoid more punishment, etc. It didn’t just force you to eat additional crap to follow the initial turd that sent you on your hide. Granted you have to learn this yourself and not from tutorials. But this game just has any basic soldier tank your bullets, shred you with your own, all while approaching to knock your rear into Zimbabwe with one melee attack and continue emptying his magazine while you’re unable to move for a disconcerting amount of time. It’s like this game enjoys curb stomping you at every turn.

Oh yeah to you're friend who likes the series! I noticed he didn't bring up the fact FM1 and FM2 go Remakes (more like SUPER Remasters) for the Switch! I do hope they become available outside of it to expand the series more! But oh well! Hopefully that remake/Super remaster for FM3 on the Switch is this year! I do love that one and hoped it got fixed HEAVILY as it was SLOW on the PS1 (even when emulated on the PS3 LOL) But at least Left Alive didn't KILL the series outright for long! Hopefully the Suits at SE get their HEADS out their asses (Hope FF7 Rebirth Sells well! For the OG FF7 who want the remake to die! I remind them if the remakes fail! The suits get scared and you get something WORSE then what FF16 ended up being! It was an okay game, same as 15. But you feel alot of "we're doing this to be SAFE" then "experimenting" which the series was great at (Hell even Bravely Default 2 which was "Safe" out of fear because of how Second did badly was still a good game! Hopefully the next is more experimental as Second WAS a good game, just not advertised WELL! But the point was it wasn't "too safe" that it became BORING in a bad way! 16 isn't TOO safe, but it's getting TOO close to that "safe for greed" sake which can be a BAD omen!)

Am I the only one who thinks this game's story is super cursed given that Russia did invade Ukraine 3 years later. I mean that map at 29:47 is literally just Ukraine but split into two countries, obviously based on the real world ethnic division between West and East Ukraine, the latter of which is partially controlled by Russia today. Doesn't that kind of imply that the majority Russian population of Eastern Ukraine is in Cahoots with Russia, even though nothing since the actually war begun in February 2022 has show that to be the case. Really dates the game and adds another strike against it doesn't it.

Fun fact. Clicking the right stick makes you do a weak melee attack. If you have a single enemy, you can spam this on them to eventually kill them.

Makes me HAPPY Forever was able to make the remakes of FM1 & 2 (And hopefully FM3 this year and a possibility of FM4 getting a Remaster at least and FM5 FINALLY leaving Japan as they no longer have the excuse of "Oh FM1 & 2 never came out in America so people might get lost with the story" BS to justify never giving us FM5!). I was not happy with FM Evolved being a POOR MANS Armored Core (I came to Front Mission BECAUSE it was Armored Core in a Tactics RPG format! If I want Armored Core I'll PLAY Armored Core! This is ESPECIALLY bad because "Front Mission Gun Hazard" exists and even if it was Action, it still had enough stuff in it to feel RPG! Evolved and THIS mess did not have EITHER!) But imagine my RAGE after hearing about this game, seeing it sucks and felt like a poor man's Metal Gear (Even got my FAVORITE Artist "Yoji Shinkawa" on this MESS! Hell I can forgive Death Stranding cause even with it's problems "it was a game that WORKED" but this! FUCK YOU SQUARE ENIX) then to find out THIS WAS A FUCKING FRONT MISSION GAME really pissed me off cause NOW I can see a reason WHY those asshats Suits kept trying to BURY the FM series for so long! They used the bad sales & hatred of this one and Evolved to justify screwing us over! Likely thought it would quiet those still wanting a Release of FM5 (I STILL to this day refuse to accept that "you need to have played the entire series excuse cause they need to stop lying on that! FM3 felt like it took place in a different universe with how the Super Nations got some MAJOR name changes and it felt more like a REBOOT to the series then the THIRD GAME! And FM4 got SLIGHTLY screwed because of this when Maria and Frederick BOTH show up in the game! And Fred's case was to continue the plot point of Zaftra from the first game! Where so the part of the story Maria was in was a continuation of the plot points FM2 brought up! Frankly FM3 felt like it was a Spin-off painted as a sequel taking place in the same world! Ironically we could have STILL gotten FM5 and a Codex could explain those plot points! Honestly I think there WAS a codex like system in FM5 so that just means the Suits at SE were too yellow belly to take the RISK of advertizing! Well these are the SAME fools who thought Americans wanted the shit shows that were FM Evolved and THIS Game) So the moment I see my favorite Dark Lord upload this Video! I KNEW I was going to have a good time watching him tear this shit show apart as I do when my OTHER favorite youtubers "got around to this game!" (Despite ALL of them being negative! It's just the fun of seeing their DIFFERENT negative reactions that make this enjoyable! Beating a dead horse isn't ALWAYS a bad thing LOL)
