Having listened to this song so many, many, many times... Idk if the prisoner actually shot the other man. It's neither of their faults... I choose to believe there were only 3 shots fired.

His other two popular reactiin songs are from this 16 Strings session. " The Devil Wears a Suit and Tie" and "Sleepin on the Blacktop." Both are as badass as this one, but you'll only ever hear Colter for the first time once, lol.

Colter actually didn't like these 16 Strings sessions. He said he loves that people love them, but his sound his more country western. Songs like "13 Silver Dollars," "Railroad Bill," "Bob Fudge," "Rainbow Stew," One of my favorotes is "Jonny Boy's Bones" and he also does an amazing cover of "Big Iron." Crazy talented!

Tbf... When Colter is being self critical, he's still being hyper self critical. This session is legendary and iconic, and he's not even developed as an artist yet. Colter is crazy. (In a genius way.)

kate mccanon was the name of the girl. When he said “I put 3 rounds into Kate Mccannon” he is saying that he shot her 3 times, and that is why he is in prison in the beginning.

​@@SG-mx3seallegedly. Based on the general time frame of the post US Civil war and mining years... An average pistol carried between 6 and 12 rounds. This song could be set anywhere between 1864 and 1914. (US Civil war and WWI) that's like 50ish years though...
