She was also saying that "people read the manifestos" etc, but their minds will be typically made up before that. And they will have been told who is the 'bogeyman' and will blindly follow it. A lot of folk these days don't have the time to analyze everything, because most politics on TV is now turning into what the USA has been, an drama crock of crap that ignores the main issues for the sake of entertainment and dividing people.

The Forde report stared that anti-semetism within Labour was not overstated or exaggerated and Corbyn was wrong to claim it was. That is not an exoneration. The report had plenty of criticism to go around and Corbyn does not come out of it looking any better than anyone else. Corbyn was hugely unpopular with the country at large, some of that was undoubtedly due to Tory and others propaganda, but trying to claim that it was exclusively due to propaganda is wishful thinking on another level. Even if Corbyn's massive unpopularity had been exclusively down to propaganda, that wouldn't change the reality that he was hugely unpopular. None of his policies got a fair hearing because he was so personally unpopular. At that point, he became the problem, and the leaders main role is to position the party to win the election, if they themselves are the main obstacle to winning that election, then they should go. No matter who they are, or what they have done, the party and the country are bigger issues than one person. It is identical to the issue the Tories struggled with protecting Boris amid his lies, they treated the party as more important than the country, and elements of Labour fell into the same trap with Corbyn. There is a wealth of evidence to support that Shaheen is wrong in her opinion to blame propaganda exclusively for the Labour defeat, but she is welcome to hold it. If she can set aside that opinion in service to the greater Labour good, then she should absolutely be the Labour candidate, and receive the full support of the party.

Most interviews in general are terrible. Frank Zappa was right when he said that they're one step removed from the Inquisition, and the ones that aren't are usually just glorified PR statements made by two people instead of one.

Just irks me that she didn't respond "Do you think the media has zero influence?" to that ridiculous, loaded question about whether she doesn't believe people are able to make up their own minds. The journalist basically conceded the bias when she started excusing it, so it would've been much better to challenge her excuse than to repeat the accusations of bias.

Party unity is important at a time when the Tories are vulnerable and public support is on the side of a fundamental change in the people who are governing our country. Saying that, Starmer's Labour is busy fighting members of its own party who refuse to tow his line. He's also hugely defensive on aspects of policy which members of his party don't agree with him on. Instead of discussing with them and coming to a consensus as it should be done in private, he uses every situation he can to punitively oust people who refuse to conform to the party line. That is a tory party and blairite strategy - it is awful for the politics of this country and it just adds to the factionalism. A leader should unite, not perpetuate the already existing factionalism which is taking away focus from governing the country.

I agree with your points but, this video being a prime example, labour party members are far more interested in grandstanding and washing dirty laundry in public to 'prove' how much more socialist they are than anyone else in the party. The only difference is that Mick doesn't have his own team working against him. Now I know what you're going to say: it's the same thing every Starmer fan says when someone disagrees with them. Mark Fisher was warning of that strategy early on. Of course it was patently absurd with e.g. Sanders; of people that have gotten close to the presidency, he was the *most* intersectional, not the least. Imagine how the same corporatists (that have the cynical idpol arguments* against Sanders) that fall over each other to defend Justin 'blackface' Trudeau would have acted if something like this was in Sander's past? * there are, of course, legit idpol issues, like POC getting brutalized disproportionally by the police-but none of the people who raged and frothed about Sanders wrt race issues give af about Biden/Obama/Clinton doing nothing. Well, worse that nothing, they make it worse by expanding/militarizing the police.

The Labour Party seems to be losing its way. It seems to have forgotten the principles it was founded on. The current leader of the party seems to be scared to run on these principles because he fears it will go against the party getting into government. I personally think he is misguided on this view point. I think most fair-minded people respect old fashioned values & the Labour Party as stood for these values throughout its history.
