This is gorgeous and it has given me a great idea for a piece I'm planning at the moment, so thank you (again!). The only open cup I've done turned out nothing like I expected, but it has ended up being of my favourite paintings. I did it using purples, blues, black and a bit of red, hoping to get something like a spiral galaxy. What I ended up with looked like one of the storm systems on Jupiter so when I photographed it to get prints made, I played with the colour digitally and made a version that's orangey/brown, and a version that's black & white. All three version look amazing!

Getting good photos of acrylic paintings isn't easy because of the lens distortion and the way light reflects off them. I try to prop the picture up as straight as possible then take pictures with either my DSLR camera or phone camera. I then make any minor tweaks using Fast Stone Image Viewer because it's free and it's much easier to use than Photoshop. I do have lots of different image processing softwares because I'm an astrophotographer and I need them for that, but Fast Stone is my go to for quick editing. I always crop the edges out to get rid of the strange shadows as well. I don't sell my prints anywhere fancy; just the shop page of my website. I mostly sell prints of my pastel drawings of the Moon, but have a few acrylic pours and Brusho art prints as well as my astronomy photos.

Thank you Yris. I think I like the next one I did with the black background better but you just can't beat open cup cells.

Thanks! You make this look easy. I’m improving thanks to you and I’m working on getting more of the things I need. I’m just working with glue, paint and water at the moment.

That is my go to. Probably 2/3 of my paintings are still with glue.

If i do open cups i like to let them travel across the canvas, lets me move the effects where i want nd i can see if i need to add more or not. Dope cells G

Yeah, I need to tilt my canvas ever so slightly so as I pour paint in it moves down the canvas instead of just in to the center. Great tip Dylan.

Thank you for these basic instructions. I watch them all and that’s what I try next. I don’t get cells, ever ! Seriously I don’t know why. I stopped using silicone because what is available here 🇨🇦 is not pure silicone so I’m a little gunshy about ordering any on line. I have a row of silicone droppers in my paint supply area. 😑

Swipe. With Floetrol. White over almost any color. White barely thinner than the other paints. That should give you cells and lacing every time.

@@LeftBrainedArtist this is true, I’ve done that but I over worked them trying to get the swipes all straight . Will more floetrol give me cells in other types of paintings? The paintings are quite pretty, but no cells. I have worked at walking away after some torching but no luck. And those pearls that can be so pretty if they don’t take over. What’s up with the pearls ? I just don’t get it. 🤷‍♀️
