It’s becoming a trend to not like the truth, sadly. The truth is that some people are making a killing off of repackaging pouting mediums into a $50 small bottle vs an extra large $15 bottle. I REALLY appreciate those people that have experimented and are sharing the truth!! THANK YOU!!!

LeftBrainedArtist how come in your other video you said a 4 to 1 ratio for glue pouring medium but in this one you said 2 to 1?
@LeftBrainedArtist4 жыл бұрын
So this is because of the paints I used. Arteza paints are really highly pigmented in my experience so I use a higher pouring medium to paint ratio. Saves me money by not overusing paints too as an added bonus. Many other student quality paints I only use a 2:1 ratio. I know the "it depends" answer isn't the best for new artists but the paint quality and pigment really make a big difference on outcomes.

Thank you for your tutorials. I'm completely blind, and you have no idea how hard it is to find people who talk through all the steps without just sort of meandering off into commenting on how pleased/annoyed/whaatever-else, instead of continuing to talk through the process. Super helpful, and excited to watch more of your stuff. :)

That is a great point. I used to work for a blind center and they taught me so much and how to be more detailed in my speaking and more respectful of how I speak. They did more for me than I did for the agency. It was a lovely place to work. I had a great mentor who was blind and he was so patient with me. Many instructional videos only play music, which is frustrating. KZbin should make it mandatory to make videos accessible to the Blind and the Deaf also. I agree!

That glue was my first kind of pouring medium, but I started mixing it with glazing medium, and found that I really liked how that behaved. I found that the glaze took sooooo long to dry, though. And I see that you have an episode about disappearing painting! My daughter made me a painting on a black canvas, and the pouring medium I mixed up for her was glaze and Glue All, so it was a pretty, soft pink and white blooming painting. The next day I was looking for it, her painting was missing! Everyone else had theirs, but not Chrystal. There was a stunning galactic black and pink nebula that no one claimed. It took us a good hour before we realized that was hers! I proudly have that piece hanging in my living room. 😊

LeftBrainedArtist i do have several questions about the weight of paints, and I am assuming you have a video about that. I will find it very useful to me. Namely, I have questions like what exactly a cell activator is, is the weight of a paint related to the “Phalo”, “cadmium”, “titanium” in the pigment? I have no idea how to word that question. Lol, I will watch more experiments in the morning, I am sure you have already explained that.

I used tacky glue and water and thinned to a thin pancake batter. First time in my life and it's all I had. I poured the tacky glue mixture on the center of a small piece of wood. Then dropped the acrylic paint in small drops and moved thru the paint very slightly with a toothpick. Oh my it was beautiful. It did pull away in small designs exposing very small amounts of the wood, but it looked cool.

Thank you so much for the recipe for use with craft glue! I'm just starting out so I don't want to spend a lot of $. I got craft paint and cheap white glue which may contain more water. I'll have to check in that but it definitely isn't as opaque as elmer's glue. I may have to adjust recipe to account for that water. While searching for cheap alternatives I saw something that said you can get cells using glue and water but it doesn't look that way here. I'll just experiment. I have subscribed so looking forward to watching more! Thanks again!
@LeftBrainedArtist4 жыл бұрын
Glue isn't the best cell former. However, it is a great lacing maker with the right colors/consistency. Lacing comes from a a swipe when you force the one paint over the other (swipe, dutch, etc.). You can add a little Floetrol to give some small cells.

Do you have anywhere in your classes how to pour on other bases, like glass or metal or plastic?

Your awesome so happy I found you. I use Mont martre paints. Oh my God you would help me out so much I’ve been racking my brains out just call me stupid but I could really use your help
@LeftBrainedArtist3 жыл бұрын
I usually mix a bottle with 7 ounces of paint and 3 ounces of water. Then use that all up and redo. That way I always have properly mixed glue on hand.

Ty again so I’ve watched you mix paints. So I’m gonna do as you said with the 70% 30%. And to pour in a cup I do 1 oz of paint and 2 oz of pm correct.

@@dlanselmo81 If you are using student acrylic yes. If you are using craft paint (dollar store, craftsmart, apple barrel, etc you want 1:1).

I'm so sorry--I can't find the link to the pouches that you talked about at 2:11 into your video? I've been binge watching your videos and I'm ready to get started, but I'm new to looking for info like this I guess! Thank you for what you do--I'm a teacher too and you really understand how to offer the info that is needed for success! =)

I don't see that pack available from Arteza anymore either. I think you can only buy the single packets. Lots of paint brands that source from China are having supply chain problems unfortunately.

Hi. Your video is great. I’m not mathematically inclined. My question is can I use the clear glue? Thank you.
@LeftBrainedArtist2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can! It acts differently than white glue so I would start at 1 to 1 ratio and then add water to consistency.

Hi just like to say brilliant set of videos! However I do have a problem as a beginner I have used Arteza liquid paints previously no problem. I recently purchased a set of the Arteza premium paints as per this video and find using PVA glue with these paints they curdle. I then I tried them with liquitex, I did not have this problem. Any advice I would appreciate👍 Paul

Mix a very small amount of glue in at a time. Like 1/10 the total paint first. Then mix. Then 1/5 the total paint, then mix. Until you get the ratio you want. I recommend doing this for almost all mediums becuase every once in a while I get a paint that is just stubborn and does this.

Many thanks for replying I will give it a try 👍

Great video😁👌just starting so will use this for my Pouring Medium! Is there a recipe for using PVA as a base/pillow? Or can you please recommend a good but cheap option for a base/pillow paint...clear base are almost impossible to get in NZ as they can only be sold tinted! Appreciate your help!😁
@LeftBrainedArtist5 ай бұрын
You can use glue. Mix with white paint and keep it a bit thicker than your other paints.

Does glue need to be Glue all brand or will Amazon basic white work?
@LeftBrainedArtist Жыл бұрын
Generally any PVA glue will work, but you want to test. I have seen lots of people use the Amazon glue, and I currently predominantly use the craftsmart Glue from Michaels.

Hi David .As usual your informations and experiments are the best I find on the internet, you are awesome. Please what would be the ratios for heavy paints like Amsterdam acrylics? The ratio of Elmer's Glue All to water and the ratio of this pooring medium to Amsterdam paint ? Many thanks
@LeftBrainedArtist Жыл бұрын
70/30 glue/water is the pouring medium. Then 2 parts medium to 1 part paint for your ratios. Then add water to the desired consistency. You can go 3:1 or 4:1 if you don't mind your color getting more transparent and less vibrant but I normally stick to 2:1 for amsterdam.

Hello David, I love your work, but I am confused. You weigh the Elmers and water. Does Elmers and water weigh the same ounce per ounce? Best regards and keep making your wonderful videos! Nancy
@LeftBrainedArtist2 жыл бұрын
Nope. Weighing is so much easier and less cleanup than trying to do it by volume. Plus you can adjust your grams/oz to account for any density differences although it really isn’t needed as long as you get the right consistencies.
