@ I am curious to know if you can use your acrylic paint for a pillow instead of house paint and what should the mixture be? Should it be thicker than the paint you use on top to do the artwork?
@LeftBrainedArtist
@LeftBrainedArtist 28 күн бұрын
@@lally816 You can. Yes, if you are using it for the Sheleeart Bloom technique you want it to be thicker so use a little less water than the other colors.

Very helpful ! I may add another way of checking paint consistency. I saw it on a youtube video, but I really can't remember the name of the artist. To check that the consistency of her paints was all the same for a pour, she would put a drop of each (same amount of course) on a piece of paper, and then tip the paper at an angle and compare how fast and far the paints would run. If one was running a lot less than the others, she would dilute it a bit more. I found that was a great way to check, visual, and even measurable !

I really wish I’d seen this two years ago! Very informative about the various mediums. I see the effect with the thinner paints as more like lacing than cells. I love the delicate wispy webbing that comes with lacing rather than the circles with other colours working their way up and forming cells. Thanks for the information! Warm honey is certainly too vague. To me it’s all about the trace on the paint in the cup. I agree with you - consistency is everything! I spent 3 months going through a lot of paint and canvases until I perfected the Dutch Pour. I also love waterfall pours - different consistencies are needed for that too. I teach small groups and I’ll only do one style of pour at a time, otherwise it’s too confusing. For Dutch Pours I keep adding water to it until I think I’ve gone too far - then I add a tiny bit more. The queen of Dutch Pours, Rinske Douna doesn’t use a medium at all - she only uses a highly pigmented paint and water. I avoid silicone, I like the challenge of creating beautiful lacing.
@LeftBrainedArtist

Love all this amazing advice. I'll have to try that with my Dutch pours. I have only been partially successful with that. Lacing is one of my favorite things also. Thanks Rael.

Hi! I TOTALLY APPRECIATE THIS VID . THANK YOU!! Im a new artist but and my work has evolved to full abstract and less pouring. Question: Do I benefit from mixing paint with medium for brush work in acrylic? I don't have the funds to do experimentation myself so I wonder if you would know. Thank you ahead!😊
@LeftBrainedArtist
@LeftBrainedArtist 10 ай бұрын
You do. Mediums help change the texture of the paint and give additional qualities like sheen (gloss, matte, etc.). Pouring medium help thin the paint without using water. There are other mediums also but I don't do much traditonal painting so that is the extent of my experience.

Great guide. Funny its called pour painting when most of my time spent is on mixing. I started playing with my pour medium mix and consistencies so i usually mix enough paint for 2-4 canvases. I can start with a ring/split cup pour or 2 then thin a color to swipe and or add silicone to do a flip cup. In the end i think of the group of paintings as a 'color series' that go well with each other. Usually i'm happy with at least one from the batch :)

Thank you for posting this. It took my several months to get the hang of paint consistency when I first started doing acrylic pouring, then I went almost a year not doing it on canvas and I feel like I’m having to start all over again. 😩 I’ve been commissioned to do a Dutch pour Angel for a local Doctor’s office, and I’ve had the worst time getting my paint consistency right. I’ve been using DecoArt Americana Wicker White as my base and I think that may be part of the problem. The word “sticky” is the perfect description!! In the past, I’ve used Apple Barrel but it has a tendency to crack so I thought I would use something different. As a result I’ve had to scrape the d@mn canvas 3 times! So I think I’ll try another brand for my base, and see if that helps.

Yes, white is one of the most finicky colors for sure.

@@LeftBrainedArtistI don’t know why but your comment made me realize that I could use a different color for the background. Lol I swear sometimes the easiest solution is right in front of you. 🤪😂

Great tutorial! So consistency of the paint is really viscosity, and the intent then is to create a consistent viscosity so whatever we create can be recreated to some extent. 💡 So we can create something intentionally and skillfully, as opposed to happy accidents. 👍🏻it’s interesting how the pva/glue affects the surface tension of the paint. Hadn’t thought of it that way before.

Good luck recreating something you’ve created previously. If only. If I want a triptych or diptych I have to pour them at the same time, one after the other or placing the canvases very close and treat it as one painting. I have a beautiful pour that captures everyone’s attention when I invite them inside. I used the same paints, same consistency, same colours, same canvas and same equipment, but even though I did it shortly afterwards I can’t get anywhere close to the original. It’s very frustrating because I could have sold the first one over and over and over; literally a dozen time. Frustrating as it is, it’s also what I love about it, the unpredictable result.

THANK YOU so much for the consistency info. Everyone has a different opinion on everything to do with acrylic pouring, different ratios of everything fluid; some use house paint...WTF!! I'm just starting, doing it for my mental well being, not to sell artwork. Your information is straight down the line.
