The video offers you in site on aid placement to correctly formulate balanced movement with the uneducated horse. While watching the video you will see parts and pieces of what's necessary to guide the horse while making them understand vertical balance which keeps them standing up so they don't lean on your aids while working over their back. The correct use of legs and hands will provide a positive learning experience for the animal and for yourself. You must provide enough time between asking with your aide to give the horse a chance to understand what your after, so be extremely patient. A lot of this is learning how to ride from your seat using the saddle as a tool and backing up your actions with the reins that you hold in your hands. Your personal balance of your seat bones is also critical in the behavior and balance of the animal as well, which keeps your aids at the correct length in order to achieve this harmony of understanding while moving across the ground. There will be many times of which you will have to revisit by showing the horse over and over and over again the exact same aid connection to the movement in order to attain vertical balance without the horse leaning on the aids. You will find thousands of applications of leg to rein or rein to leg to make the horse understand what you're after so the horse can do the exercise all on its own without any intervention. The great challenge to all this is having the horse soft enough in movement with an understanding of what's needed to apply the suppleness of movement in all the gaits. The iodine helps stabilize the temperature of the water for a longer period of time.

@@hockeycoach1on1 I have a horse with a really swollen knee. Would like for you to share what actions I should take to help him recover and get back to working.

You can use a medicated poultice on the knee with ice 🧊cold water/iodine mix. Use a cotton wrap over the top of the poultice just like the lower leg treatment in the video. Cover the poultice/wrap with a pressure bandage so it helps move the fluid out of the knee joint. Will probably have to secure with tape at the base so it doesn’t slip down. No more than 12 hours maximum then remove and look and feel for heat.

Be careful not to over tighten the pressure wrap on the joint. You should still be able to get a finger behind the wrap and the no bow cotton pads. Use a 16”-18” hind leg no bow so your above & below the joint. Horse should not be allowed to run around, stall confinement is the best. So day/night at first until swelling goes down then, overnight with limited outside movement. Hand walk at first then undersaddle at the walk for no more than 15 minutes initially. When turning don’t make sharp turns , you don’t want lateral stress on the joint. Walk the horse so the stride goes foams not to the side. Depending on what’s really going on you’ll know in a few days if a vet needs to look at it. Always check for heat and monitor the swelling. Hopefully there’s not to much or any lameness in movement. You can also use 100x Osteo-Max product, I’ve had good success using it.
