Your the only dog trainer I've ever seen on KZbin 1- explain it correct and 2 - explaining the process and technique correct. I spent years trying to figure this out on my own with trial and error. I'll admit it, no shame in the game. I wish I had contacted someone more experienced in handiling working breeds. Lesson learned now, but great job sir.

Oh thank you thank you thank you! I was just trying to teach a weaving trick my dog a couple months ago, and he was kind of getting it but I reached a point where I couldn't really progress any more because I wasn't doing something right and didn't know how to troubleshoot the miscommunication I was having with my dog. This is great and I can't wait to start trying again with my dog and see how we do.

I have a small 2 year old Pomeranian that I've had for two months. He came to me from a show dog breeder and didn't really know much in the way of obedience cues. After I taught him the obligatory 'sit' and 'down' and a couple of other behavioral cues, I wanted to start him on a trick or two. I'm elderly (70) and disabled in that I can't walk without using canes or a walker. Teaching him to weave while I walked was not an option. I chose to train a figure 8 around my legs while I was sitting. I've been working with him a few sessions a day for about 10 days. I couldn't see much progress but I didn't give up. Just this week he actually started to respond as if he realized what I wanted. For those of you who have dogs that pick up on new cues, there may not be quite the thrill when your pooch starts to understand. My dog takes a while to 'get it'. I get a feeling of real satisfaction when Jazz shows improvement. I'm kinda proud I stuck with the training and proud of my fluffy little Pom. 🐕

Kudos to you for taking your time train a dog, despite you being elderly. I had two pomeranians growing up, they were REALLY stubborn.

Love it. I have so many ideas now for training my Jindo. You’ve inspired me to work on training my dog to do so many different tasks. We’re both having fun. It’s good for our bonding and growth.

I just started doing this with my Borzoi recently. She is on the smaller side of her breed standard, so she just barely fits without having to duck too much. I thought it would look a bit silly, because she is long and tall, but she's flexible, so it actually looks surprisingly good, and we are having a lot of fun with it. I'm finding I'm getting more enthusiasm from her for her competition heel when I switch it up and throw in some canine freestyle tricks in the middle of practice.

Amazing. Thanks for the good vid. I actually tought it to my dog in a different way-without the turning. We practiced left and right heeling. then I added the Center by throwing a treat behind me and rigjt after one between the legs out of my hand (the lure). when he perfectly did this on cue it was with the hand. the left and right switch normally is behind me. But if I give the cue with the hand pointing infront, my dog does it through the legs by himself. (if I do a big step) so maybe I do have a smart dog or much luck. Good video as always. thanks for that!! will practice turning.

Better to teach the figure 8 whilst keeping still before moving forward. I have taught mine to weave backwards as well , meaning we both reverse : ) Great fun . Thanks Robert .

I taught my dog to weave my legs as I walked first, (using a treat in each hand---but my dog can be moved with just by hand movements), then I taught her to run in a figure 8 around my legs while I was stationary. Then I put the two together. So I start stationary and then walk forward and she continues to weave at first only a couple of steps. As the behavior got better and better and her response became crisper now we added gentle turns right or left. Eventually, I want to start our heeling routine and then ask her for this behavior. She will actively weave and when I stop moving, she will figure 8 around my legs until I ask her to heel again. So I want to be able to transition in and out of this behavior during a heeling routine. Why am I teaching my dog this? Because we can and its fun.

Hey Robert, PLEASE HELP. I got a GSD puppy and trained him for 7 months. I used to take him for daily walks, could trim his nails, I worked with him every morning and taught him lots of commands (sit, down, stand, come, etc.) everything was great. Then I had to go away for a project and I was away for 6 months and my family took care of him. After I came back, when I take him outside, he barks at the strangers. I can't trim his nails. He won't let me. I can't take him to the vet. He won't let the vet get near him (he barks and after the vet still tries to get close he runs away). His paw is injured and now I cannot apply the ointment the vet prescripted. He's now 1.5 years old. What can I do? Is there hope? Thanks in advance.
