World of Warcraft Dragonflight is just days away from launch, and the new new Legacies Episode 2 cinematic continues the story it began in the opening installment; Nozdormu leading the Dracthyr Emberthal through a recap of important events involving the dragons, this time Neltharian and his fall into the corruption of Deathwing and his betrayal of the Aspects in the War of the Ancients. But there is one thing bothering Taliesin... is Nozdormu REALLY Nozdormu in these cinematics? Or is there a twist in the tale where actually our narrator is Murazond, travelled back in time for some reason. Let's look at the evidence (and talk Old Gods because why not)

I think lore catch-up is the perfect thing for these cinematics to be. They're bite-sized snapshots of history told in-universe (which allows for things like skewing perspectives and being unaware of secrets to be revealed in the story)

At least Emberthal is not simply trusting "her eyes". She spends the entire expansion-patch with travelling through the isles, listening to different aspects, searching for records to what happened. Other Dractryr do the same. So they don't put their dragon-eggs into one single basket.

She's clearly suspicious about all he's telling her. Having too a portion of his power, maybe she feels that, while it's true, there's something else that his not telling. That even shows at the end of the ep. 2.

One thing to note about Nozdormu's "we could not foresee this betrayal," line: It's quite possible that Nozdormu's trust in the other aspects-with him calling them family even with the "clutchmates," line-it's just possible he avoided looking into the futures of the other aspects at first because he believed in them more than his own foresight. Given that the aspects have been heavily hinted as one big polyamorous family I could see Nozzy thinking there could be no bigger Faux Pas than to look into the future of people he genuinely loved.
@danyg4063
@danyg4063 Жыл бұрын
Well, the full line is "We could not foresee this betrayal, for we simply did not want to believe." I don't think it's a literal "We couldn't foresee it" like it was being blocked from his vision. This sounds more like a "I saw something like this happening, but I didn't want to believe it possible, so in my hubris, I made myself willingly blind to this possibility. It had to be a trick." Something like that. The aspects so trusted Neltharion - they were as clutchmates, if you recall - that they turned a blind eye to any red flags. "When you wear rose-colored glasses, red flags just look like flags."

I don't think it's possible for Nozdormu to avoid seeing Deathwing though, because even though he might not have traced his future specifically, the influence is so widespread that he would eventually see that something had happened involving him, ya know? Like he can't not look into the future and avoid noticing the ripples of Neltharian's betrayal that would have to lead him to the conclusion that he became evil.

@@kalistoh I'm on board with that or old god influence literally preventing him from seeing things. I more so meant I don't buy the idea the Nozzy was too trusting and just chose not to look even though he could have, because of how widespread Deathwing's impact is, even in the short term pre-cata events. Neltharion's ability to hide his actions from Nozdormu may be from an alliance with Murazond, who could have traveled back through time and helped Neltharion create the Dracthyr. I'm not sure who could hide parts of time from Nozdormu but himself.

My take/theory on this is yes he is not Murazond, yet... I believe the "unseen" thing Norzdormu is looking for is HOW he turns into Murazond. And yes Chronicles says he is corrupted by the Old Gods, but HE doesn't know how. And maybe the Dracthyr are part of that missing piece, but I believe Norzdormu is trying to figure out exactly how he turns into Murazond specifically to try and stop it. And I think he does because he hears the whispers, and he was able to resist him. But seeing Deathwing and having lost his power as Aspect means he could end up like Deathwing, and he doesn't want that. But I believe the thing he is looking for to prevent him turning into Murazond is the very thing which DOES turn into Murazond. Also Tali is rightly stated he sees all timelines all the time, so how could things be hidden from him? Yeah it could be Old God corruption and their power could disrupt the sight of those who can see through time. I mean they are even older than the Titans and are primal entities so it's possible. But going back over the cinematic, when Deathwing betrays them, Norzdormu looks sad but he doesn't look SURPRISED... It's almost like he may have known something like this was going to happen... Not exactly the events, but he knew a betrayal was inbound. But here I'll throw out two theories which may follow parallels to previous stories (as in WoWs theme now). 1. Whatever turns Norzdormu into Murazond will likely be knowledge which is so disheartening and makes him feel powerless. This would parallel Sargeras, who was tasked with imprisoning demons from the Twisting Nether but became so despondent from the never-ending demons and their corruption he creates the Burning Crusade in order to "purge all corruption." 2. Whatever Neltharion created and hide (even from Norzdormu and everyone else) is both what creates Murazond but also what is the world's salvation, and looking back even corrupted Neltharion was working to save Azeroth from the Old God's. This could parallel Illidan, who for countless years was thought of and fought as a villain trying to take over the world but turned out he was trying to save Azeroth all along. The difference being Neltharion either went mad (or knew he was going mad) before he plan came to fruition and relies on the heroes to continue it.

I think it’s implied Nozdormu knew that the dragon soul was corrupted In the Yogg Saron fight we see Ysera notice the dark glow of the Dragon Soul and Nozdormu says “For all to be as it must be, yes” I don’t think it’s meant to be that he had things hidden to him by Neltharian

I genuinely believe Blizzard want us to question who exactly our narrator is. Whether it is or isn’t Nozdormu - I feel like they want us to look at nozdormu throughout the expansion with a side of caution. Each time we interact with him, we’re going to question his exact motives. I doubt they’re going to outright reveal if this is in fact Murozond, but knowing blizzard, it’s no accident that we’re having this discussion.

Not just "already" Murozond, he was ALWAYS Murozond. From the moment of being given the power over time, he's just been playing a "good" character and a "bad" character but the actor and the plan are the same. Sometimes he just needs to prod the timeline in both directions to get the outcome he needs.

The discussion about how the old gods are somehow doing something that prevents Nozdormu to not see the future properly is quite reminiscent of the audiobook "A Thousand Years of War" where there are certain things about the future that X'era couldn't see and when Alleria started using Void magic, that's when it's revealed that people who worship the Light can have a blind spot because they couldn't see what the Void sees. I wonder if that's related somehow.

I think my favorite part of Dracthyr using all the dragon flight powers is that it gives us a perfect reason for Nefarion to want to make his prismatic flight, and for deathwing to make the twilight flight. They're both trying to recapture the incredible power of the Dracthyr without having access to whatever maguffin was used to make them on the dragon isles.

As for why Norzdamu didn't see Deathwings betrayal, he says specifically that he didn't want to see it. For the even concept of it was so painful. At the same time the Bronze Dragon flight see's possibilities, not the true future. So its impossible for them to know which will happen, they try to influence the creation of a future they want. As for what is under the Dragon Isles, there is a rumor that there is a missing Old God. There is some fluff to suggest that there is an unnamed Old God Imprisoned somewhere deep inside Azeroth. One that we don't know his name or what his power/aspect was. Like Yog'sarn death ect. I always wondered why the other Dragon Flights didn't question why Deathwing and the Black Dragon flight used human, rather than Elf avatars. We know humans existed in this time, its just that they were in primitive tribes in what will be Arathi. But did they ever wonder why? I know some have suggested that the Old Gods see themselves as the Gods/Creators of humanity specifically. So the Old God Corrupted Black Dragons as servants of the Old Gods also take on the form of humans. Oh and no I don't think Deathwing looks like Horus Lupercal in his human form.

Nozdormu says that he didn't see Deathwings betrayal because he didn't want to see it. I think the same is true for the mountain. I believe it contains the proof that the titans were assholes, and that Nozdormu doesn't see that betrayal because he does not wish to see it. This would lead him to evil and to a wish to destroy the Titans (including the one in Azeroth) with all his might. Similar to how he says that stopping Deathwing was the only way.

@@Trumie I guess to me these are one and the same, like basically, he gets corrupted, goes to Nelth to try and cure the corruption, which is when Nelth creates the Dracthyr. While trying to cure Nozdormu he transforms into Murozond, locking the Dracthyr in stone. During this fight is when N'zoth is able to reach Nelth and turns him astray. Great work as always. Two thoughts: - Nozdormu explains that he didn't *want* to believe that DW would betray them, it's possible he saw it, but denied it because of the emotional pain it would cause. - Thrall's giant beads are a street fighter reference, specifically to the character Gouki/Akuma, who has giant buddhist prayer beads. A lot of Japanese monk/priests have big, heavy necklaces like this, and it's just an East-Asian symbol of reflection, asceticism and pilgrimage, which was what Thrall was doing in Cataclsym.

I think the Dracthyr are being prepped to clash against the Titans. Almost indirectly via the Old Gods (i.e. created by Neltharion, awoken by Murozond). Nozdormu and the aspects were pawns of the Titans. When Nozdormu finds out about the deception of the titans this may lead him to shatter the timelines (to escape the 'true timeline' where Titans maintain order and control) and become Murozond. Thus also explaining why he doesn't want the aspects to regain their power - to prevent them becoming pawns of the Titans. This will then potentially align with the backstory we're discovering about Avaloren. I'm guessing we may see this continue to escalate via further plot points to the Void vs Light conflict in the future. Yrel, the Light, Turalyon, the Titans vs the Void, Old Gods, Sargeras, Murozond etc with us in the middle. Or not, who knows!

I also think whatever happens through out this expansion may lead to some world revamp in 11.0 to coincide with the 20th anniversary. Through the past few expansions they've been bringing old world models and textures up to scratch through new content, and with a greatly expanded dev team they absolutely have the man power to do that. Though I also don't think that change will happen off screen, I also don't think it'll flat out replace the current world, I don't think they'd do cataclysm again, I think the current world would still be accessible through chromie time or something. The thing about the version of Murozond that we defeat in Cata is that he's from an alternate timeline we prevented, we effectively undefeated him when we defeated Deathwing. Nozdormu was the least affected by sacrificing his Aspect powers because he exists in an eternal loop, meaning he'll be much more powerful specially if we give the dragons more Aspect power. Effectively Nozdormu and Murozond are two different entities existing between his creation and death, we have to kill both to keep them dead.

I'm glad to hear that Tali has also found some of these lines from 'Nozdormu' suspicious and odd. When I watched each of the cinematics for the first time I had a "hu...this feels like a villain thing to do/say." If I was reading a book these cinematics is the part of the book where the character who hasn't been revealed to be a villain but is 100% the villain is trying to recruit a new lieutenant. I don't think Tali's "is this actually Murzozond" is as far fetched as it might seem at first... That ending though....made me really excited to see what's next. All this said....I do love the idea that we spend this expansion trying to help Nozdormu prevent his corruption only for us to fail at the 11th hour at the end of the expansion. We've known, basically forever, that Nozdormu becomes Murozond and it would be really cool if we could get something a bit like a Greek tragedy. We know the outcome of our questing, and we know that Murozond is the future....but we try really hard anyways to save him and almost forget that Murozond already exists and that means that Nozdormu falls. I think that would be an amazing way to end the expansion

Right at the start of the first one she asks him who he is and instead of giving a name, he simply says something like 'one who would be your guide' His identity has been well suspicious through the whole thing and yeah totally agree with the whole 'trust your eyes' bit. Even though he's shown her a bunch of stuff these last 2 episodes, the whole point of him going there to find her was to get to that room they are in at the end. I also agree with you that nelth was able to hide stuff from nozdormu/murozond. Considering that drakthyr can use various types of aspect magic, he's going to need her to use the sands of time to show him something, maybe something that happened in that room. I'm sure that we'll get to see the drakthyr's creation next week in the video, but maybe that thing he needs to see isn't their creation, but something that happened in that room later on. It looks like a council room of some sort, maybe a court room or something. Do we know for sure what neltharion/deathwing did with the dragon soul when he used it? What if he used the dragon soul while corrupted by the old gods to bestow some kind of power or knowledge on the drakthyr officers in that room, her being one of them?

It would be great if Blizzard would add a new building to Org and SW that housed short reads about wow history and lore. The condensed version of each expansion’s story, and older Warcraft games. They could have a goblin/gnome operated movie theatre to view all of the cinematics and in game cut scenes, and if they truly wanted to dig into the idea maybe add a bronze dragon character to have small instanced scenarios where you play a quick portion of the major moments of each expansion. Maybe add a cool book themed flying mount as a reward for completing all of the scenarios. It would just be nice to have a place for in game lore actually in game.

That cannot be Murozond. Nozdormu sees his own death, which then causes him to become Murozond. At the end of this cinematic, he asks emberthal for her help to see something which he has been unable to in the past (his death). This directly implies he hasn't made that transition but is in that progression.

Hi Evi and Tali Great video as always. First off, at 16:50 when you are talking about whether he was created by disappointment in the Titans or by the Old Gods, remember that using Chronicle as source material especially in this situation is a bit flawed, as it is written from the Titans' perspective, so obviously they would have us believe that he was created by the Old Gods, and not by something related to them. I think the most realistic could be a combination of finding out some truths about the Titans that puts them and their actions in a bad light, but also getting influenced in some way or another by some corruption or Old God stuff. Another interesting aspect to the "blindness" of Nozdormu, or at least a potentially interesting observation based off your train of thought that Old God powers can block true vision or time vision, or whatever we wanna call it. That is, if Murozond is indeed corrupted and turned by Old God influence, then he should be able to have all information that Nozdormu has obtained up until that point, but also be able to block Nozdormu and his time travel vision to find out or figure out what Murozond learns after changing, and therefore being infinitely blind to his exact future and the consequences from it. (I just really hope that we will not end up in a multiverse situation with 3 different Nozdormu's and 7 different Murozond's all chasing each other through time to achieve and obtain whatever powers and knowledge they think they need to "win" at whatever they might wanna fight. It is also curious to think about that all dragon aspects has or will become corrupted by Old god influence, either directly or by extension, except Alexstrasza. Neltharion = directly, Malygos = as a result of blindly trusting and following Neltharion and then struggling to deal with the consequences, Ysera is corupted by Xavius - who is corrupted by the old god influence on the Emerald Dream, creating the emerald nightmare, and lastly, Nozdormu will turn into Murozond in one way or another. Is that then also indirectly an indication of what will/could happen to Alexstrasza at some point as well? Lastly, all the work and animations involving shadows vs light in the 2 Legacy cinematics so far, and potentially seeing shadows as representing of Old Gods and light maybe representing enlightenment and thereby the Titans, who coincidentally are directly opposite of the Old Gods and have done everything to fight, experiment or "confine" them - really makes me wonder, what the next expansion could be... :P

If Blizzard would like for us to truly believe all of the old gods are gone and dead now then Murozond should not be able to exist as whispers would no longer be possible, regardless of whenever Nozdormu first started getting whispers. I still believe that we didn't kill N'zoth, but rather were allowed by N'zoth to "enter" Ny'alotha in a dream state and kill what we thought was N'zoth only for him to continue hiding so that he can be even stronger when he does truly return. Yet we also know that there's possibilities (theoretically) for other old gods, minor old gods, such as Xal'atath possibly. There's also the possibility that Xal'atath is the claw of Y'Shaarj, and if a part of an old god could begin having its own life, is there a chance that it can resurrect its true self? I feel like it's more likely that N'zoth is still alive, regardless of whatever Xal'atath has disappeared to in the cosmos do for her own plan.

Something I found interesting was that the first two cinematics covered things we, as the players, already knew. Yeah, we got to see Galakrond and that whole thing in more detail, but anyone can read the book. We got to see a little more about the creation of the Dragon/Demon Soul, but again that's established in lore, and I'm sure we've all cleared the raid and killed Deathwing by now. Next week's installment of Legacies will cover something that no one in the playerbase knows about, so we are in the dark as much as Nozdormu at this point! That alone is enough to get me hyped, even if these cinematics are a little more chill than, say, the Jaina Warbringer.

I'm getting Dune vibes here. Leto II end goal was to make all humans invisible to precognition. He even became a tyrant to accomplish this.....I think it fits. They've been hinting about mortals having no choice and being tied to the 'true' timeline, one the Hour of Twilight was supposed to break. I expect Murozond's goal is the same Sargeras' and Zovaal, break the cycle of fate because the 'true' timeline is in some way maddeningly horrible. Malygos even for some reason agreed to help Neltharion create the Dracthyr, I think he was trying to create a race not bound by the 'chains of fate'. Others have broke it of their own will. It is interesting it took the combined powers of Order (night elves being Arcane/Order influenced creatures) and Chaos (Fel) for Illidan to break Xera's 'chains of fate'

@williamreely3455

My theory is that the Titans themselves transformed Nozdormu into Murazond, or put a failsafe trigger within him to do so. We've seen hints in the beta quests that the Titans aren't as benevolent as we thought and that they are not above secrecy and underhanded tactics to ensure their Order is maintained, and arcane dominates. We know the Titans have planted world-ending fail-safes before - the Halls of Origination, Algalon the Observer, the Keepers. Kill switches and asset denial are kind of their signature move at this point. Something in this expansion, or something relatively shortly before it, is going to seriously piss off the Titans and they're going to activate their sleeper agent in Murazond.

It’s interesting how, according to Chromie, every bronze dragon knows how they are supposed to die, and will not diverge from this to the point of actively attempting to restore their destined deaths if they see it changed. So if Murozond is rebelling against the titans, Order itself, then he’s rebelling against the context of order and time being Fate - or death itself. His dragonflight name ‘infinite’ would fit this scheme well. Also it’s more of a stretch but Murozond’s color scheme resembles that of Argus quite a lot

I just realized now that all hero classes are created by the characters featured on the box of the first three expansions. Arthas created the death knights. Illidan created the demon hunters. Deathwing created the dracthyr. That's pretty neat. I guess that would mean that the dracthyr will follow a similar arc as the other two. Death knights broke free from from the Lich King's will and demon hunters used demonic powers against demons. If the dracthyr have some Old God influence in them, then they will have to prove their allies that they are more than just vessels of corruption.

My 2cents: Nozdormu doesn’t know how he gets to Murozond. But he thinks the Dracthry are the link, and he wants to get to his demise quickly cause his days of doing good are behind him, and only dark times are in front of him. So it’s like his way of doing us a mercy, getting to his end game as quick as possible, because he knows we got this now and dragon age is over when he’s gone.

my guess is Murozond in conduction with the old gods shielded these moments in time from Nozdormu (similar to how Nozdormu locked Deathwing's death as unchangeable) and that Murozond helped Deathwing make the Dracthyr by bringing him the dragonsoul as we know it gets lost after the war of the ancients

What if... when Nozdormu says "you might become as mighty as we once were" he's setting the stage for the dracthyr to collectively control the power of the black dragon aspect. • This would play into the struggle for power storyline between Wrathion and Sabellion, with the dracthyr being a third option as "the reluctant leaders who are more fit to lead" trope. • If they were created and imprisoned before Neltharion was corrupted they would be a pure version of his will at the time where his primary goal was to protect Azeroth. • Having the power spread among many would also make the black dragon aspect more difficult to corrupt due to a strength in numbers mentality. • This could also be a way to incorporate the only missing magic type for the dracthyr and potentially create a new evoker spec or new class revolving around black dragon magic
