Hello, I just want to thank you all for recording these episodes for us. I was never in the SADF as I am to young, I however dreamt of it. This led me to going to the bush in a anti poaching role at a young age. I will always remember my grandfather and uncles telling me of their time in Rhodesia and in the SADF on the border. I read every book I could find on the border War etc from a young age and very quickly started idiolizing the the operators from the likes of 32bn, the Recces, the Selous scouts, RLI, the Parras etc. It's amazing being able to see the old manne that I have read about talk on your shows. It's means a lot to us younger generation as well. These are our heros. Much respect from the bush.

Excellent talk, I remember Bloem well and the training, what a pleasure to listen to such an honest account, agree it’s disheartening to see how the kids are so tech bound, but keep in mind its that same tech that’s giving the Ukrainians a lead in their war , just a thought. And I agree once a parabat always a parabat, its in your DNA. I also recall the camps were some of the guys were not paid by their companies it created a nightmare for them, but saying that I also recall that Santam bank helped out by allowing the guys to delay mortgage payments etc. A different time. I remember the Dankie Tannies when I will at 2 Mil, I still have the penny. Agree if you find you are isolated by circumstance join the groups, Moths whatever there is always strength in numbers, take care , vasbyt.

The war helped by delaying the post-apatheid negotiations to after 1991 when the USSR and communism collapsed. This radically changed ANC policies because they had to make friends with the West. If the ANC had come to power with international communist support in place then things would have been very different

I really enjoyed this discussion. Dankie Lood en Koos. I enjoyed that Lood loved the training and he still feels it so strongly - not many men like him! The story at the end about the exploding toilet - I really enjoyed Lood's pleasure in recalling that incident.

Great memories from a proud man, and I agree that we were exposed to a lot as young men and had to cope with the army, there was no giving up, so you persevered, and we all got there. I would caution about the WAGS (wives and girlfriends), as they will steal the show from these men - LOL Seriously, it would be great to hear from WAGS of our men as a different perspective of what they had to go through and make the ladies. part of this!

Met al my diensplig en verpligte kampe was ek nie getrou net met my laaste maand kamp was ek getroud.

A most interesting conversation; thank you Colonel Pepler. As a 39 year old civilian I did the 3-day selection at the Regiment, before completing the Jump Course in 2000. Here is a home recording of my experience. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqjac61qr5yIepo
