Legacy GT Wagon Gets a BRAND NEW 2015+ STI Power Steering Rack!

In this week's video we install a 2015+ STI power steering rack onto my 2005 Legacy GT Wagon along with Whiteline Steering Rack Bushings, STI Solid U-Joint, and a Cusco support brace.

i just did this upgrade on my 05 obxt and love it. thanks for this video. i was wondering if 2015+ PS pump would work on our car. I've read that those are stronger pumps than the obxt/lgt ones. you think the pump would be a direct swap?

If I'm remembering correctly, it will work but the inlet/outlet are different so you'll need to run a line of one or both of them.

Hi, the work you are doing on the GT is great. I own a 2009 Spec B six speed Manual Legacy myself, and I would like to upgrade it with the parts you use. Would it be possible to include the links for the parts to make it easy to purchase the parts?

These are the part numbers, best thing to do is search for the cheapest place. I've found www.sawtoothsubaruparts.com to often be the cheapest. 2015+ Powering Steering Rack: 34110VA121 and 15+ STI u-joint: 34170VA030.

What r the brakes off? Do they bolt on? Do you need a bracket for the rear? I'm in Australia i assume i just get the relevant RHD parts? Im really interested in the steering rack upgrade

Mine are off of an 04 STI, but 04-07 work just fine. Fronts bolt right on but you’ll need an adapter for the rears. And not sure on the cross compatibility with RHD cars but I’d imagine no issue on the brakes and you’d just need the RHD part number on the rack

Hey so the stock legacy power steering lines bolt up directly to the 15 sti rack? What power steering pump are you using?

Well done mate, great video, I've got an 05, Outback H6 wagon and was thinking of changing the front control arms with the alloy GT version, is the alloy arm's a good upgrade ?? Are there any benefits with the alloy ?? in regards to the std steel ones, I'm assuming they wouldn't flex as much, any advice would be great. Greetings from Australia.

Thanks man! And the aluminum arms actually shed quite a bit of weight. I unfortunately didn’t get a weight savings on the front but the two rear arms save 5lbs from each corner, which is quite a bit of unsprung weight. Plus they look sick haha

Did you have to center the steering rack???

I believe the rack was centered, but I did have to disconnect the u-joint afterwards to center the steering wheel. Keep in mind I had everything apart for a month plus, if you're just doing the rack it should be much easier to take out the old rack and install the new one.

My 05 doesn’t have VDC. I believe that was only on 08+ models if I’m remembering correctly

Man most of the stuff you're doing just seems like a waste of time, effort and money. It was painful watching you trying to cut that rack down. Never heard of a bench vise and angle grinder? Literal two second job.

Unless you’ve driven a car with the upgraded rack, how can you say it’s a waste of time and money? An overwhelming majority of those who have upgraded said it’s a huge difference. Not to mention, my factory rack with 140,000 miles on it was on its way out and I’ve always been of the mindset to upgrade when something needs replacing. And trust me, I’m well aware but working on a budget and building out my tools slowly as I go.
