Never in the history of the world have the people calling for censorship ever been the good guys
@zigzag321goКүн бұрын
Governments censor Mein Kampf. I think this is one example where the good guys are the censurers, though it feels weird to call governments "the good guys." Though in over 99% of cases, what you say is abso-fing-lutely correct.

You are aware that Britain is cracking down on misinformation, seeing that racial riots appeared after misinformation of a stabber, falsely labeled as arab, spread throughout, especially Twitter which did nothing but fuel the racial Riots. They nearly burnt down a mosque.
@AlecMullerКүн бұрын
@@zigzag321go does censoring it actually make the world a better place, though? I seriously doubt it. When authorities censor ideas that are genuinely bad, they're exercising power that can also censor ideas that threaten their authority. On the multi-decade timescale, I'm far more worried about the administrative state than the small number of people who'll read that book, believe its contents, and act on it.
@AJadedLizardКүн бұрын
@@zigzag321go No, they're still the bad guys even if they're doing it for what seem like good reason. "When you tear out a man's tongue, you don't tell the world he's wrong, you tell the world you're afraid of what he has to say."
@zigzag321goКүн бұрын
@@AlecMullerBut it's not as small of a number as you would think. About 20 years ago, Mein Kampf was translated into Arabic, and it became a bestseller in Palestine. Neo-Nazi groups are prominent in many nations. The US, UK, Russia, France, and even a political party in Spain, to name a few. They likely would be in Germany if Nazi ideology wasn't illegal. And that's with heavy government restrictions on the ideas of Nazism (in most of those places).

In a world where ALL media outlets are subject to market forces, where clickbait is rampant and there is clear financial incentives to take one view or another, you really need to keep your eye on even the outlets you trust. In my experience, from the music industry, group dynamics can and will change dramatically when the $$$ start flowing. And it's the keeping of the $$$ flowing that's the problem, especially in media outlets.

Here's a question to ask of those who say 'I read it on Snopes, the factcheckers said that...' And I've been on the receiving end of that: What is the substantive difference, quantitively and qualitatively, between ANY media outlet and a ...'factchecker'?? Because from where I'm standing, and I argue this in good faith, ANY purveyor of information can get stuff wrong, either maliciously or through sheer carelessness. This isn't my opinion, it's an inevitable logical conclusion for which there simply is no rebuttal to be taken seriously. The Appeal to Authority, which 'factcheckers' are de facto deploying in their own defence, is perhaps the most well understood logical fallacy. What the public is being asked to believe by these clowns is simply absurdity heaped on absurdity. If you're concerned about misinformation, the answer isn't censorship...it's more information. And for our American friends, setting a legal precedent by handing the federal government the power to censor the press is the motherlode of bad ideas, and a clear violation of your 1st Amendment rights, rights that many in the western world simply do not have enshrined in constitutional law.

in the movie "the big short", Michael Burry and Mark Baum short securities based on their readings of market indicators, yet CDO prices somehow rise and ratings agencies refuse to downgrade the bond ratings, due to conflicts of interest and dishonesty amongst the credit rating agencies.
