It would defeat the purpose of it being the capital of the Republic since it is meant to represent all of the states. Giving DC senators, a governor, and representatives, would wildly overthrow the balance of the country and reduce the states to mere provinces. If anything, it needs to be reduced in power with no electoral votes and no "official residents" beyond the representatives that are sent there. Just have the people born there choose one of the states it borders as their home state. But I guess that's too simple.

@king_vasuki2692Күн бұрын
Getting rid of the Department of Education would result in worsening education for minorities, especially disabled children. If you do not know, southern states during the 1900s had begun to indoctrinate their children into believing that slavery was not horrible. Of course, that manner of state education was wrong, slaves were slaves, property, and items, in the eyes of the owner, and never were treated as humans. The Department ensures the quality and necessity of school. If abolished, states will begin to discriminate and limit funding to impoverished schools. Southern states for instance have constantly failed to ensure inadequate access for disabled children, and refuse to expand the awareness of certain disabilities. Another example we see is how oil and coal companies were able to bribe, oh I mean "Lobby" Politcans into teaching the "Benefits of the Oil Industry" which is PROPAGANDA. Both the oil and coal industries are known to be severely corrupted! Which leads to failed teaching of kids to deny climate change. Though that manner of corrupted teaching is how more people die, look to floods, typhoons, and hurricanes in Florida, Nigeria, the Philippines, Ghana, Liberia, Mali, Niger, and Libya! Speak how states are not to be trusted within schools, and abolishing the Department will only worsen such. The Department of Education ensures my people have a chance for success, but to abolish it or even weaken will cause my own people greater misery.

Our schools concentrate mostly on testing because they know that if the scores are low, so too are the federal dollars. The goal becomes to keep the funds coming in, not to make sure your kids meet the standard. That’s why education sucks, they just need to hit all the proper metrics to keep the money coming in. Your property tax will be going up, because those states are not just going to let those federal dollars go. As soon as they shut down the DoE, states will say they’re facing a budget crisis, emergency sessions will be called & new laws, raising your property taxes to recoup that money will take place. Remember, it’s not the Federal gov’t’s money to begin with, it’s the taxpayer’s. So all this is going to do, is cutout the middle man. The Fed gov’t will continue charging you the same amount in taxes, but now the states will raise your property taxes, so they can take that money directly out of your pocket, instead of having the Feds do it for them. What’s funny is that people seem to think that this will save the Fed gov’t money that they can use elsewhere, as if they do anything that’s not corrupt. Those federal funds previously earmarked for education, will then be squandered on other BS. Idk why people pretend that the gov’t is suddenly going to start being responsible with our money. 😂

The government is supposed to protect our country, that’s about the extent of the Constitution. And we still were given the 2nd Amendment, just in case, We The People, need to protect ourselves from a tyrannical government.

What about the VA Hospital employees who are to receive school reimbursements in lieu of market rate compensation? This Bush-era program is covered under the Dept. Of Education...
@mr.giggles49952 күн бұрын
I highly doubt they care.
@MatthewMortensen12 күн бұрын
They'll just cut the VA. That simple.
@RoyArrowood2 күн бұрын
Thank you for bringing that up. Hopefully someone actually takes a look at all of the programs and honors the promises of the government before simply shutting them down. Definitely it would seem that those who have already signed up for such a program should be taken care of. Also how about just paying people market rate?

@@RoyArrowood Half of the DoE budget is also for federal student aid (loans to college students) which won't be going away. I imagine most of the DoE budget will actually have to remain once someone takes a good look at it.

I don’t have kids but I do pay taxes and I much rather the money goes straight to the student. I hope Trump shuts it down.

just remember that, if parents were to be given $25K a year for education, pretty much every school will automatically cost $25K per year. Government subsidies will raise prices. Look at what the GI Bill and other subsequent government loan and grant programs did to college tuition. I'm for the idea, but let's keep our predictions about buying power in check.
@jonathanjones3126Күн бұрын
Gi bill is good, unlimited student loans are just a terrible idea. Force the university's to pay the student loans maybe then they will change their business model to one that produces people able to get and keep jobs.
@Andy-AJC72Күн бұрын
The GI bill is earned via service. Throwing out unsecured loans to everyone is the problem.

🙏 Donald Trump of all people might be the greatest gift to federalism since 1789. What a gift to genuine democratic development this might be.

Why is the Federal government sending money to the states? Eliminating it from the Federal government should eliminate it from their budget and go to reducing the deficit. States should be responsible for raising the revenue if they want a public system. Correct?

VERY local control!!!!! And as someone who honeschooled my four kids, anytime the gub'mint has money there are strings- be it feds, state, township. Best instead to just quit charging taxes and let the families figure it out.

Having been educated in Scotland there were three things you couldn't discuss in school, Religion, Sex and Politics. We did at least one hour of sport a day, we did the usual classes, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, History with visits to archeological sites, fossil hunting, gold panning, English with creative writing, Maths, Arithmetic, Algebra, we did art and manual acitivites like woodwork, metal work, architectural drawing, we even did sailing. For the girls there was home economics, typing, sewing. We did Latin or Greek plus one other language so I spoke French at 17 then moved to France at 21. School was there with all these subjects to 'subject' us to possibilites, enabling us to best choose our paths later in life. I never witnessed unruly or disrespectful behaviour and everyone respected the teachers. I am happy to have been educated there and then and not today. I also studied archeology in my own time and had five jobs growing up even creating my own business buying and selling fabric and accessories at week ends at the age of 15. I also took care of my grandmother and my siblings because of an absent father and overworked mother. I had several pen pals over the world and wrote at least two letters a day, pen on paper ! This was of course the 60's and 70's. How things have changed.

the department of education DOES NOT make curriculum decisions. education is already the responsibility of states and local governments, that’s why there is a discrepancy in stats between regions and states. A quick google search confirms this.

what they do control are guidelines and laws within the schools, such as lunch, special need programs IEPs, counseling etc.
