I believe that blue white control, black green midrange and mono red aggro should be the base pillars of every format. They form such a beautiful triangle of balance, and can easily add additional colors or decks in a comfortable way.

G1M1 I feel like it was a HUGE punt to not fire off EVERYTHING you had, since that shut off Brainstorm, Fetches, Ponder, Prismatic Ending, and made it so they had to find a way to make a big game because they couldn't attack at that point anymore either. You'd be at 6, but they would have been forced to block. You need to not focus on being one damage short, you have damage on board with Eidolon, Burn is about leveraging their life total, and G1M1 was a really good example of you definitely not being a Burn player, meant in the best way. Putting them at 1 means that ANY action is Lethal, outside of being able to play Sagas.

IME, keeping 1 land hands is almost always incorrect as Burn, even if the other 6 cards are castable off of 1 land. Especially since this build plays 19 lands instead of 20. There is ~41.49% chance there is no 2nd land in the top 3 cards if you keep a 1 land hand. And these games are near 100% lost. Defensible exception: 1-2 hate pieces in a hand with 1 land, vs decks with terrible matchups like graveyard-based combo.

In burn vs delver matchup you need to kill delvers cheap threats. Your threat density is much higher. While true murktide can turn the corner. Its less of a problem if you are at high life total.
@stithler97573 жыл бұрын
At 10:06 you said Swiftspear and Bolt are equal. (I paused here so not sure how blocks turn out or the game) but actually swiftspear is equal to 4 damage. Here we should bolt their creature, Prowess trigger, Swiftspear is 3/4 now before damage cast Fireblast, They go to 7 Swiftspear is now 4/5. Damage happens, they are left at 1. The line leaves them at 1 with 2 creatures in play. and an active Eidolon assuming no force of will.

34:24 I think in this metaphor, you're a contracted civil engineer for Cheesetown. Your patrons are the tax base. Kris is the zoning commission chairman appointed by the mayor. And finally your opponent is a motorist attempting to get through Cheesetown so they can go to Trophyburg, but they're unfortunately caught in traffic as a result of your construction of additional thoroughfair lanes. They've been staring at the sign saying "Welcome to Cheesetown" for the past 3 hours in deadlock traffic.
@brad_soup3 жыл бұрын
People have said a lot of similar stuff already but yeah, low life totals are very relevant with Eidolon in play even if you can't count all the way to twenty. 5 puts them dead or locked out to any topdecked burn spell. 4 effectively shuts off cantrips (at least into spells, haven't played much since Saga got printed admittedly) and 3 does the same to Force and fetches, and then 2 and 1 obviously lock them. Don't have to worry too much about getting All The Way There.

Blood moon is terrible in burn; drop those for sure. I would add at least 1 more smash to have more outs to chalice. Also could use another firecraft given how blue-centric the format is. Something like -2 moon, -1 pillar, +2 smash, +1 firecraft I think would be more useful.
@zachjones17163 жыл бұрын
Burn gets more advantage from redundancy, so I think there's an argument for skewer the critics. I also like 4 pop. Honestly, pop is better for you than blood moon 9 times out of 10 imo just because it gets you faster and still punishes the same thing. While I'm not in the camp that all burn sb cards have to have damage on them, as pyroblast and bridge seem great in this meta, there are cases where you prefer it (smash to smithereens> shatteringspree blowout potential typically, etc). Bridge is probably a better first big investment than fetches for a fueled grim lavamancer rn, for anyone interested in this deck. Fetch thinning is good in this deck obviously too, but bridge hits elves and a lot of aggro as hard as lavamancer. Speaking of elves, cage seems like the best gy hate card for this deck imo, that might have changed since I played it last though

I'm sure the answer is no but any thought to Ragavan in the board? Getting free cantrips to reload or potentially hitting removal to clear the way seems cool. Probably too cute though
@BoshNRoll3 жыл бұрын
Ragavan just doesn't inflict damage at a rate a burn deck is interested in.
@dm99103 жыл бұрын
Really should've cast your bolts in the first game. By putting them to 6 (effectively 2 with Fireblast in hand) they're dead to a single Eidolon trigger making 90% of their deck dead draws. By my count over a quarter of your deck is instantly lethal, and almost every combination of cards you could draw over the next few turns wins. Only way I can see you losing is to draw multiple mountains in a row while your opponent draws Force plus Regent/Saga. You're definitely a massive favourite in this situation. Putting them to 1 is also reasonable as it turns off FoW, at the cost of a few draws like Firecraft and Price not being live. Your patient play of letting your opponent just activate Saga twice and have an impenetrable wall of blockers with 14 life to play with... that's just not how Burn is meant to be played. It's not card disadvantage if they're dead.

comment while watching --> 20:10 how dare we not care about ragavan? half of the time he will find a burn spell to play on your creature + the treasure that can lead to an explosive start. It's much more than a casual 2/1 threat. What do you think?

Spending 3 mana to not deal any damage is just bad rate. Not boarding in moon vs Loam means it doesn’t belong in the deck.

1st in round 1 i think you bring in some # of pyroblast because this is not a fast game you're going to be slowly you're trying to grind advantage and 2 @24:18 i think it sounds counterintuitive but i think you let them gain the 8 life there because if you fireblast you will lose to a force and if they're going for this line they have the fow i think you wait to use fireblast use riftbolt to go after ragavan and hope you can top deck better

That's a worse drawback than giving the opponent a land. Burn needs a minimum of 2 lands to operate at full steam, and you're essentially making it so you're playing on one land the whole game, or behind on lands.

@8:40 why not put them to 1? You said yourself that you won’t likely be connecting with a creature again. Putting them to 1 there by using your mana gives you outs to win by drawing something like lava spike. Maybe that’s results oriented because yo did draw lava spike, but it makes sense to me, idk
@DarkestFiction3 жыл бұрын
Its not results-oriented thinking, I play Burn in most formats it's good (meaning Modern and Legacy lol) and him not putting them to 1 not once but TWICE was a huge mistake. The only thing the opponent has going for them at that point is Saga, and with blockers, that's not gonna matter because he can hit a spell and Bolt.
