I remember playing it a bunch on the dreamcast Demo Disc before getting to play it for real. The voice acting was so good, along with its unique game mechanics. It's still one of my favorite games to this day.

I've got no idea what made me pick it up on the Dream Cast (my brother's console at the time) but I was glad I did, only annoying thing was the sequel got released on the PS2 so I didn't have a chance to continue the story

Back in my late teens, I ran a PlayStation focused fan site/web magazine and Soul Reaver was a game that I got to play a beta of. I didn't get terribly far in it - it was unfinished to boot - but I could tell from what I did play that it was going to be something special. Whether ironic or not, I didn't end up doing a full review of the game and I didn't play the sequel either. I'm excited to get a chance to finally play them in what sounds like a highly polished form! Fun fact, everything in the game was measured in "Gexels". It was a term coined by the development team who leveraged the engine from Gex 2 for Soul Reaver.

I’m not discrediting the voice casts in the game at all their work on lok has been etched in gaming history forever but if this makes a high enough profit for them to consider a sequel to defiance I find it hard to believe they will sit in the meeting to decide and say “well we can’t bring back the same voice so it’s not possible” I won’t deny though that trying to find a voice to take over for kain though would be one heck of a difficult task. Well at least if they plan to please enough fans. Still that would be a long way off anyway I would be surprised if they made a sequel to defiance without remastering at least defiance if not blood omen 1 and 2 first. I would say a remake to blood omen but I’d rather them put that money to a sequel with the right team behind it. Hopefully this sells enough for them to not let the series fall down the pit again.

Love Lok, and the TR remasters were really cool so I had high hopes for this one. SR1, especially, needed an update. I'm just glad more people will get a chance to play SR2 (which I actually prefer). Now, we need a proper Blood Omen rerelease because that game would benefit so much from some modern polish.

People need to buy these games! I’ll be the first to admit gameplay can be finicky at times but the story is God Tier and so is the voice acting! We need interest in them to increase so that they can hopefully continue the story one day!

I pre-ordered it last night, and so I was eagerly anticipating this review by my FAVORITE Switch channel on KZbin! I am SO relieved you guys liked it! I was a 21-year old goth when the first Soul Reaver came out and I absolutely adored the story, visuals, music, and voice acting! So very refreshing to see a developer respect the source material and also (even work alongside) the community of its fans! Hopefully this is a trend that continues!

Nah at least for me I don’t think it’s biased to appreciate bonuses like bts videos. I mean many find bts stuff on their favorite games through KZbin and suck. To have those extras put with the game though especially a remaster of a 25 yr old game is sort of like having a piece of gaming history in my opinion. I normally don’t double dip on games but the amount of extras put into this on top of the remastered work definitely makes me want a physical copy. Then again it just came to me that I may be biased too since I’ve always enjoyed learning how my favorite games (from the past like soul reaver 1+2 here) are made.

I can’t wait to revisit these games. I absolutely loved them on the PS1/PS2. Voice acting was always the highlight, but so was the light and dark worlds, the Metroidvania-sequel exploration, and just the tone and mood of the titles. I fear the gameplay won’t hold up, but I still want to get these just to have an easy way to revisit the late 90s at the push of a button. Thanks for the great review and the respect you’ve shown for the source material and the work that the devs have put into these titles to reintroduce them to a whole new audience.

I have two things to say: 1. Finally. This masterpiece series deserved remaster more than any other video game I could have imagined. And seeing positive reviews makes me cry of joy. I love Soul Reaver, it's one of my all time favourites, and only complaint I have is lack of LoK: Defience in this package. I pray for it. 2. Play this. Seriously. It's basically Zelda for adults. Gameplay is ahead of it's time. Deep lore; great, grim story and well established characters; top tier voice acting and music. OMG. I can't stress enough how wonderfuly ominous OST is. Play this. You won't be dissapointed.

It wasn't just some of the vampires, every vampire enemy in the first Soul Reaver game could be staked and left in place. Its actually a technique to kill and leave the enemies pinned so they don't respawn when you have to backtrack through areas. Just keep in mind if you pull the stakes out or absorb the vampire spirit linked to the pinned vampire, it will dissolve and be replaced by a new vampire next time you revisit the area. Same can be done for burning or drowning enemies for those susceptible to that fatality.

Love Soul Reaver. Still sore at Aspyr for how they handled their Star Wars ports with Limited Run. Whoever doesn't know, they released a slew of games individually as limited print runs, and simultaneously it must have been, because right around the same time as the Limited Run copies I bought were coming in the mail, they were mass releasing collections of those games for the same price as the single game copies Limited Run was selling. And now you can buy all of them, like 8 games or something on a single cartridge for like $50. It's wild.

The word is that Crystal Dynamics provided the code/IP and Aspyr sub-contracted another studio for development. That studio is Sabre Interactive. Not sure why Sabre Interactive's involvement has been hidden; There must be some sort of NDA in place.

Where did you get the UK pricing from? It's 3:30am on 10th Dec right now and there still isn't an option to preorder, purchase or even a product page on the UK Nintendo website/eShop. The fact you mentioned the review codes were later than expected is suspicious and suggests there's something wrong with the European versions release. I may be proven wrong in a few hours, but having no preorder option in our eShop means no discount like the other platforms and like with the Tomb Raider collections.

Not just Nintendo... Aspyr too. There's clearly something going on that they aren't being open about. Like the whole fiasco when the 'Play Anywhere' was removed from the Tomb Raider I-III version on XBox and even though it had been listed as PC compatible even having a presence on the PC's digital store; the day it was released that cross-platform access was removed. Supposedly it was an 'mistake'... which no one at either Microsoft or Aspyr noticed for months leading up to the release? And there's the unfulfilled promises from Aspyre with KotOR II as well. I have a lot of respect for them bringing these true classics back for modern platforms, but messing up in in the public way they keep doing so is not very pleasant. Well, if Aspyre don't want my money for this one; I'll just play on my PlayStation or Dreamcast for Soul Reaver and the sequel on my PlayStation 2... after all; most of the target audience for these nostalgic releases likely own the original versions and the hardware to play them on as I do. Is a higher-resolution and some pretty new graphics really worth the negative manner in which we are treated? It's bad enough that most modern games are released unfinished and the early adopters are paying their own money to be the beter testers; being monkeyed around like this is just as bad.

I remember someone giving me Soul Reaver 2 as a gift, and then loving it so much that I went back and played Blood Omen, and Soul Reaver 1. And before the last Legacy of kain game came out I played Blood Omen 2 and was a little disappointed that it didn't have Raziel. Legacy wrapped things up and ended an era for me.

I love this series. Soul Reaver 2 will probably forever be my favorite game. Period. It just has such a brilliant storyline, and, of course, brilliant voice actors to make it real. I always said that this series was like playing the best vampire movies ever. The whole plot and how it develops is just _that_ epic.

I played but never finished Soul Reaver 1 on the Dreamcast. I thought it was one of the coolest games I ever played and remember having some really weird dreams because of it.

Yes! I was jumping out of my pants when I saw its coming back. I remember back in the days, I was trying to see if you could revert back to the original outfit. Sometimes I wear my jacket on one shoulder. And guess what, this game inspired me back when I was a child lol

I played it, I loved the world building, and I felt the game play felt fresh for most of the game. The later battles started to feel samey and is love to see updated combat. I think I'm still going to give this remaster a play though. There was so much to love.

I wish they had Legacy of Kain: Defiance added to the collection, that was my fave. I also loved the outtakes in that one. The actors were really well working with each other and it was seen that they enjoyed the series.

I never pre-order a game, but for this one i made an exception. Finally it has been made and can't wait to play it again.

When you show footage of handheld mode and we see your hands it looks like you are wearing a Star Trek II Wrath of Khan era Starfleet uniform. This is now my head cannon for all your videos going forward..... Khaaaaaannnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I completed this (Soul Reaver 1) for the first time during covid but am definitely going to play these again, they are great games imo!

Brilliant! Played to original and loved every minute of it! Vagrant Story is another remaster I'd love to see! Still hanging onto my PS vita to play that game!

I can't believe I played Soul Reaver 25 years ago. I'll definitely pick this up, both to relive the first one and to play the second one for the first time. Here's hoping for Blood Omen on Switch!

I really loved ALL that extra content! I miss when games included concept art, soundtrack, models and such. There are games today that still do it, but there are also a lot of $60 games that the only thing they have in extras is the credits.
