this kinda reminds me of another lore mistake ubisoft made is when in assassin's creed brotherhood they have the dagger of brutus, the description for it says that it was the dagger that killed julius caesar but when you look closely in assassin's creed origins, in the ending, you see brutus stab caesar with a skinnier, smaller dagger (i forgot what it is called) instead of the one that ezio can have in ac brotherhood. this has always pissed me off because i was looking forward to seeing this dagger in ac origins before i even played it, kind of disappointing to see they didn't even show it in the game lawl even though in the ac origins comic amunet gives the dagger to brutus AFTER the assassination of caesar. still sucks though we couldnt see it :/

Wow that’s a good catch. I wonder if they changed that when they included AC:B in the Ezio Collection...unless that’s the one you played. I’m actually surprised the Dev team for Origins (Quebec or Montreal?) made that mistake...they’ve been on point for most their games. Whereas the team for Odyssey has IMO made the worst. Syndicate and Odyssey both being perfect examples of pointless games with large maps & terrible DLCs, having 2 reasonably unrelatable protagonists with no clear purpose, no clear enemy, disappointing endings, and wonky fight mechanics that feel like uncontrollable cutscenes. Origins shoulda known better

Well that’s what Origins did so well. The order of ancients and the Medjay/Hidden Ones we’re perfect proto-Templar and assassin groups. And origins was set in SUCH a beautiful environment and time in history. Sadly...Odyssey is just a mess. The game mechanics are nearly identical except we’re suddenly a Demi-god with anti-gravity strength? The fighting is wayyy too unrealistic and brutal and comically animated. I get that the Isu influence affects that...but it’s an uncomfortable departure from earlier AC games. It also just lacked anything special. Historically, it’s a rich setting...but Ubisoft Quebec missed every opportunity to really appreciate the immersion. They traded a huge map (honestly, way too big) for a short & meaningless narrative with mostly grinding quests. I think this guy nails the difference between Quebec and Montreal’s dev teams. Side by side, Origins destroys Odyssey. And the DLC for odyssey was SO disappointing. I couldn’t wait to see the Leonidas spear adapted into the hidden blade...BUT...we never even got to use it!! Darius did, but the game did absolutely nothing to bridge the storylines between Origins and Odyssey nor did it visually bridge the assassin-Templar lore or central assassin capabilities. The end of the game and DLCs didn’t even reshape the fundamental ethics of Alexios/Kassandra from an indiscriminately murderous mercenary to something remotely resembling a protector. Odyssey has NO creed or belief system that would make it a proper AC installation. And without the hidden blade, there’s no shadow assassin feeling. And historically...Odyssey did nothing. It didn’t even suggest that the order of ancients was originally the cult of kosmos. So we spend the whole game fighting this evil Greek order thinking maybe they become the order of ancients that we see in origins. Instead, after we kill the cult, the DLC (that not everyone buys, btw) cc suddenly introduces the order of ancients!! Like...they’ve been lurking in Persian Macedonia the whole time and ONLY exist because of our relationship with Darius. It was terrible and cheap and essentially made the entire Odyssey game 100% unnecessary. The only way Odyssey could gently integrate into AC lore and the 400yr gap between it and Origins...is if a sequel game focuses entirely on us playing as a younger Darius (another prequel) OR a game that is set at the end of Alexander the Great’s reign and subsequent dissolution of his Empire into daughter kingdoms like Ptolemaic Egypt, Ancient Greco-Latin Rome, the warring Semitic kingdoms of Assyria/Judaea/Israel/Sumeria/Hittites/Canaanites, etc., and Byzantine Anatolia? Turkey (Galatia), Rhodes, & Cypress could be great to play because they’re home to so many cultures and historically rich cities that use good narratives & historical references to seamlessly & geographically connect the AC lores developed in Greece-> Constantinople -> (Ancient Persian Turkey/Anatolia)-> Masyaf/Israel-> ‘Ancient’ Egypt -> Rome & Florence. I think doing something like that would be the only way to retroactively make Odyssey worth any AC fans’ time. Either a total prequel in Persian Turkey & territories...or a a sequel to Odyssey that predates Origins to account for the way Darius’ personal creed influenced Kassandra’s descendants (Aya’s ancestors). Doing that could potentially tie-off a really brilliant historical saga that begins as a rebuke against the order of ancients in Persian Anatolia & Ancient Greece...then evolves under Alexander’s conquests & collapse...until the creed’s fundamental tenants take early distinct organized forms-simultaneously-in Egypt, the Sinai, & in Rome. The Mediterranean could then be true to its ancient name as the ‘Great Sea’ in the middle of the Roman world where the battle between free will & tyranny raged for another 2000yrs-during which time we see Religion weaponized, fortified & embodied by the Assassin Brotherhood in Masyaf and the obsessive Knights Templar of the Crusades. The Middle Ages are crucial to the rise, fall, & reformation of both fraternities’ public bureaucracies. The Renaissance reintroduces these organizations’ secret charters in the same ancient capital of Roman tyranny where the assassins were founded-Rome (and in Rome’s former Eastern counterpart, Constantinople-Instanbul, after finally falling to the ever-present Persian/Ottoman Order of the Ancients). The Age of Enlightenment and Industrial revolution cast glances towards Paris & London (both former Roman conquests and Imperial antecedents to the struggles seen in the American Colonies and Revolution). Hopefully the upcoming Viking chapter will do a good job of sewing a rich historical tapestry that bridges the chronological gap between the Italian Renaissance, the first Viking settlements of Newfoundland & Nova Scotia, and the impact of Norse imposition throughout the Celtic/Gaelic realms of England, Scotland, & France insofar as the events of Unity and Syndicate have a more central meaning to the ultimate struggle first acknowledged by Darius’ assassination of Xerxes.

Its mentioned in ac4 that when the assassins headed to new regions they were surprised to find that no matter what region they went to there was always a small group that followed the same kind of creed and style as they did, in a note or datafile the connection is made that there have always been small groups around the world that wore hoods and used shadows and followed some form of creed, in rogue the cave paintings convey it as the "good spirits and chaotic spirits" of native american folklore, so is it really surprising that darius was so identicle when around the same time there were native americans and hints that even japanese "brotherhoods" it wasnt until bayek that everything got put together and the brotherhood officially was created and tied the disparate "spirits of freedom" together into the worldwide brotherhood we know now, as darius was also in the time of hashashins, where we get the name assassin, who were disparate groups that flared up then quickly died out.

It was this point that they started merging with the native factions shared ideas, methods, etc. Darius' group and the others stayed in their own countries, The Hidden Ones were the first to truly branch out into the world because they had both the means, and the understanding of the bigger picture. Bayek laid the groundwork, other people simply added to it until it became what we saw in the first game. @LazerzZ's issue is that Qubec relied too heavily on Iconography and symbolism in a literal way that openly spits in the face of established lore. I didn’t know the Blade was on top of the wrist originally, I haven’t played the DLC but I think that would have been cool if Darius created The Order of the Ancients and just saw the order he created be turned into the very thing he wanted to stop, I think it would have turned into more interesting plot, where he lost control of the order and it became corrupted and him killing Xerxes was him trying to take responsibility for his actions, like when Ezio talked about how everything was permitted. “To say that everything is permitted, is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic” and Darius tried correcting his mistakes maybe, I would like to discuss this with anyone who would like a dialogue on this
@Jaanikins6 жыл бұрын
I think that idea gives Darius too much credit. When I played the games over the years, I never saw Darius as someone who had that much influence over history, just THE assassin who was the first wielder of the hidden blade. I think if you give characters too much in their pot of control and achievements, they risk becoming too OP. I understand where you're drawing that idea from, with Ezio's quote. But Ezio's quote was HIS interpretation of the Creed. If you look at AC4 with Edward speaking to the Mayan Assassin Leader, Edward has a completely different interpretation. So even though each member knows of the tenants of the creed, everyone has their own understanding and interpretation of it. Also, the idea of orders, groups, clans, governments, countries in these games all have elements of corruption or becoming corrupted all the time, so I think that's just something that's been over used.
@dillanphillips82116 жыл бұрын
BRITURK I know that was Ezio’s interpretation of the creed I used it for the point I was trying to make, like Arno’s was different as well (I always saw Edwards as more of questioning as the full exchange between him and Ah Tabai is: Ah Tabai: And what do you think of our Creed? Edward Kenway: It's hard to say. For if Nothing is true, then why believe anything? And if everything is permitted... why not chase every desire? Ah Tabai: Why indeed? Edward Kenway: It might be that this idea is only the beginning of Wisdom, and not its final form. Ah Tabai: That's quite a step up from the Edward I met here many years ago. He was beginning to make his own interpretation and Ah Tabai not giving his own view, it’s meant to be thought about by the individual so they can create and follow their own path that’s how I saw it at least) and it’s nothing to do with making them OP like with Aya/Amunet she became the co founder of the Hidden Ones but only she was remembered and Bayek forgotten, besides it would show Darius’ greatest failure and one that still haunted him, so I don’t think that would make him “OP” kinda like “The Road to Hell is Paved with Good Intentions” that’s where I was going with that idea, and it could connect with a Bayek sequel if they make one 🤞. Which was a subject that was brought up before on this channel. Where Bayek is worried about what would happen to the Hidden Ones after he’s gone

It's already established in Origins the Order of Ancients was founded by a Pharoh in something like 1300 BCE. So making Darius the founder would be a major retcon. Persia conquers Egypt around 500 BCE which is probably how the order spreads from Egypt into Persia. It seems like they haven't spread too far into Greece because they are trying to avoid the Cult of Kosmos.

Deshan Cheliah That is true, but the question is where did he become a Hidden One. As I said before there is nothing to indicate that Bayek is operating out side of Egypt from AC Origin. IMO, this game has divided the AC fan-base more than any other before it. The CORE fans (like me :P) that not only care about gameplay mechanics and exploration, but really care about the LORE, the TONE, and we are so invested in it that we wish the franchise always took itself seriously, like Montreal studio does with its games. And the other "fans" that only care about having "FUN" assassinating targets and exploring the world and mounting a unicorn LOL (which includes a large part of the mainstream media), but they will stop buying AC games like it was nothing to them. And because this game (odyssey) was so popular with these mainstream "fans", I'm just afraid we (the true fans) will be ignored, and what we want will not matter anymore (like never before), and also this will affect Montreal's vision of the franchise. Hope I'm wrong and they manage to understand the mainstream will not be as loyal in the long run.

"True fans" have to care about the incoherent babbling ubisoft has passed off as "lore"? This is a series that routinely takes historical figures and places them hundreds of years before or after their deaths just to squeeze in "real history". Real fans, lmfao. Play a game with real lore like Halo or RDR, or even Final Fantasy which is at least story driven. AC stories have always been lazy and are just there to give some semblance of a "who, what, where, and why". I've played every AC, including all chapters of the 2d game, and I forget the stories before the credits even roll. Compare that to games like FF 7-12 (I don't care much for the older ones, though I hear the stories are phenomenal), RDR 1&2, and even GTA 4&5, all games I can recite the story beginning to end after only a single play through. Face it AC lore junkies, your game was never loved for its story except for a SMALL handful of players, and AC is famous for its mechanics, which is its almost unanimous that new AC > old AC. I wouldn't trade Odyssey for every AC before it combined if you paid me.

Or like a child?) Edit; he follows the pillars of an assassin by chance is what it seems to want you to believe is all I’m saying basically but he never says anything about killing innocents :/ though wouldn’t be surprise if we go to Persia and then he’s like don’t kill the people I love them all or something :/

Ever since humans broke away from those who came before, there have been those fighting to control everything and those fighting for chaos. There were Templars before Templars were a thing. There were assassins before assassins were a thing. But the thing that stands out to me is that not many of them extended past the era they were in, except bayek. Darius being a typical assassin is great and all, but if his brotherhood falls apart (which it does) and doesn't continue on, doesn't establish a creed to be followed, how is he a founder? He isn't. The foundation for this is set up in AC3. When the chosen one through the ages gathers a small group to refound society after a world changing event, only for the same divisions and groups fighting for order, others for chaos, that sets up this line of thinking. For example, laser, stop and ponder this for just a second. You are mad about the lore for A.C. being cheapened by odyssey. But were you mad about the order of the ancients being Templars before Templars existed? We're you mad about the cult being Templars before the Templars were a thing? The Templars in the AC universe are going through the same evolution. My point here is that there have been, and always will have been since Adam and Eve groups that rise up and do the assassin thing, and groups that rise up and do the Templars thing. The thing that makes bayek and aya the founders is their organization is the only one to grow out of their origin story and continue on to the modern day. The Templars could only really say that about themselves hundreds of years later when around the times of the crusades. Bayek and aya were also the first group of assassins to export their ideology, which also solidifies their founder status. We know that by the end of origins DLC that they are expanding into the Levant and the heart of the Roman Empire. Darius and his group collapsed. I think what AC is saying is that the left alone to their own devices, there will always be groups that very strongly resemble the Templars and groups that will always strongly resemble the assassins. Going off of lore, the fight between order and chaos has been ongoing since cane and able.

If they really wanted peace, they would want to work themselves out of a job.

When one rose the other fell and when one fell another rose And in black flag theres notes on how the central american brotherhood was just a group of natives who already followed a similar creed and used similar tactics that just merged with the brotherhood, which was noted in another part of black flag as a sign that there can never be one without the other and they always existed just lost and forgotten like the sites and artifacts they both hunt for

@Yo Momma Different parts of the world have different names for things that are exactly the same. Also who's to say that Byake didn't get it wrong? Also seeing as Darious was the one who created the hidden blade in the first place, he would be the one who would known how it's actually used, and seeing as no one knew better they just assumed he used it just like they did.

Darius' story made him act that way, and that's actually logical; hiding his face, hiding himself with his son from the Order because they were chasing them, and all of that. Darius' traits are not invented by Bayek, Bayek didn't invented the concept of having respect for the innocent, nor the concept of hiding, nor the hoods. Also, there were "Assassins" before Bayek and Amunet, and that makes a lot of sense actually. Inside the lore, there are proto Assassins, that shared the ideas of the brotherhood but lived before its creation, and there are many examples of this (Adam, Eve, Iltani, Kassandra). They had the means to fight the Order or everything that could put in danger free will, and they were considered Assassins after the creation of the brotherhood, even if they weren't. Some of them even had groups, and even Bayek is a proto Assassin at some point, but the difference Is that he made the brotherhood that would last until the present day.
@KayTahm4 жыл бұрын
In my head, I see it as Darius and his little brotherhood is exclusive to where he lives and his country. Then his assassin's ideals continue down his bloodline to Aya and Bayek in origins until they decide to make the brotherhood a global order to combat the Templars. Darius had his little local assassin group and then that expanded into bayek and the start of the actual order.
@moonknightish5 жыл бұрын
To be fair, the brotherhood being founded by Bayek made no sense because it was always said in the previous games that versions of the brotherhood existed since the birth of civilization. So it makes sense that Darius was in charge of an ancient version of the brotherhood, that Bayek created the hidden ones and that Al Mualim created the modern assassins, and all are connected. At this point the Medjays as the extension of the brotherhood and traditions of Darius, makes sense, even if it's really forced. The problem of this retcon was created by Origins, not by Odyssey.

Before Origins, everything in the lore pointed to a Persian origin. The historic real world Assassins were from Persia, the oldest known Assassin was Persian, the philosophy has parallels with Zoroastrianism (the native religion of Persia), the legendary location of Eden is in Persia, and even the game itself spun-off from Prince of Persia. But no, Ubisoft wanted to do a game set in Egypt. Maybe this is a lame attempt to fix what I consider to be the mistake of Origins. Also, Bayek did not found the order in Origins, it was all Aya. I know I am really late to the party here as recently came across this channel and although i dont always agree I find it really interesting to see others perspectives, especially someone who has been invested in the overarching story and lore from the beginning much like I have. On the Darius being an assassin in all but name and that not making sense in the wider narrative, I found that the tenants of the brotherhood were so intrinsically linked that I could easily see where something like that could have come before and just died out if it was not carried on especially with the advent of the hidden blade. First with wanting to kill the baby he is not adhering to do not spill the blood of innocents (heritage is irrelevant the baby had done nothing and basically ask "what would Ezio / Altair (select preference lol) do?" and that would be nothing or just keep an eye for going down the same path). Which is shown to be true by the fact that the boy king does not get swayed by the Order of the Ancient. Taking the vigilante path so to speak is not that out there, every generation has its revolutionaries really, and then developing the blade to achieve that would surely lead to questions of how best to use it, hiding but having to be close enough to your target, sneaking around leading to wearing a hood to help staying out of sight - they are all logical decisions and methods being made based on how best to use the weapon against protected people. Of course its not a big leap to seek out like minded people or even to having a gathering place, although that is brief and it is mostly individuals from after Xerxes so no lasting formation of a brotherhood, more temporary alliances, with these ethics and morals being passed down culminating in Aya who alongside Bayek actually forms the Hidden Ones as an actual group embodying all those beliefs. On the traitor front I saw it as a traitor to Persia rather than traitor to his friends and his guilt at that being more about being seen as a traitor to the very place he wanted to protect / rid of corruption. I am not saying I am right or that you are wrong, just that with my perspective and the way I have seen it I think it, by and large, fits in with the lore :-)

This generation prefers this type of gameplay and customization. Sadly thats messed up things. They should never return to original ac combat it was horrid. But they should definitely return to roots in terms of no rpg elements and one shot assassinations.

It's sad to see some people not enjoying at all the changes ... i love AC, and the story, but for me the lore was kinda secondary, what i loved the most was the gameplay nd the environment and the concept of the animus. And i love so much how the series is evolving towards RPG. So im kinda sorry for people that don't like it 😅 But i mean, if you really dont like the series anymore, maybe try other games ? I mean it's been 10 years of AC, gaming and interests has evolved 🤷♀️

So, I'm not sure if you've read the Codex pages in AC2 or not, but in one of the pages, Altair writes that the Templars will essentially never die, because an idea can not be destroyed. He also writes that he believes the Assassin brotherhood is also the same thing and that they are doing the same thing as others before them. Although, I'm not sure how literal he was being, or to what extent he meant. So I'm not sure if he meant there was a similar brotherhood before Bayek started it, or if there were just groups who fought back against those who oppressed them, and others. But if his words are to be taken in the most literal form, Bayek cannot have started the idea of the brotherhood, as ideas have always existed, and the brotherhood was essentially copying someone else, without even knowing it.

the way i think about just to mesh both canons is that the assassins existed during Darius' time but were unified by Bayek and his brotherhood. I know it technically doesnt work but hell i just want it too in my head.

My argument against how you say it doesn't make sense. Compare the beliefs of the Greeks and the beliefs of the Vikings. Both believed in Gods (plural) who were very human-like with flaws and all. Several places around the world have Pyramids, but none of the civilizations that built them have made any contact. So, when you say it makes no sense at all that there were other groups of assassin's with ideas that were incredibly similar, makes no sense itself. Traitors would call the innocent party traitors. . . . . . -Face palm.- I'm sure Hitler betrayed tons of his loyals, and he straight up called them traitors afterward. -.-; As for the rest of it, I can't disagree. It could've been better and by using some of the points you've brought up. Also, Darius' group could've grown and grown and linked up with Bayek's Creed long after. They knew they were fighting for something similar. I'm just saying. It's incredibly possible. lol And I could put out a whole lot more arguments against the stuff you've said, but I've already typed a ton. Either way, they're definitely moving away from the lore, though. Moving more towards an RPG styled game with all the elements of choice and so on.

I think ubisoft is trying to take the narrative of assassins creed back to Persia where the organization was created in reality. Assassin creed one was supposed to be an prince of Persia sequel but was made to be an own game. I don't mind them taking the story back home where it started instead of it taking place everywhere in the world except for in Persia or including Persian characters at some point of the game. But i understand your point. I wish they had an idea where they would go with the dlc of the odyssey when they were working on origins so that ubisoft could introduce a proto assassin (Persian) character that in interaction with bayek would inspire him to create the official assassin order to fight the common enemy to both their organisations. Lost opportunity now at this point. But i still hope for an entire game in the Persian empire scenario. Maybe thru a persian scenario, a certain medjay will fight our character since Persia invaded and controlled egypt for centuries. Not impossible. Don't give up man. They might be able to fix this. Give us assassins creed Persia damn it! :)

I agree, those statues in Monteriggioni were probably built by early 15th century Italians, or late 14th century Italians lol It's not like they had pictures of this historical figures. They probably didn't really know what Altair (a guy from half a millennium earlier) looked like either, they just made an educated guess based on the surviving assassin robes from the period.

The real sad part about Darius being basically a Brotherhood Assassin is that with all the non-assassins creed shit Odyssey does they could have literally made Darious anything. They could have made any type of character with Darious and it would make sense. Basically the one time I didnt want Odyssey to be Assassins Creed is the one time they actually are Assassins Creed. Imagine if Darious was a brute of a warrior who uses the hidden blade because he realised the big brutish weapons he is familiar with arent great when an enemy gets close to him.

It's them forcing heterosexuality on you. You will (spoiler) always end up fucking Darius's child and having a kid with them. No matter what. Even if you played your character as exclusively gay. Which fine, if they had made no dialogue options and written it that way fine. But as it is they MARKETED their game as being driven by player choice and rip it away in the DLC just so you can have a child.

So he claims Darius never affected Bayek but he may have affected Aya bayeks wife because she explains she got the blade from a friend. That friend may be a descendent of Darius or someone who knew Darius style of hiding in the shadows thus impacting Aya. Sure Bayek was the founder but maybe Aya was the one who added the Tenets or the style of Darius. They never point this out but wouldnt be smart to add the friend who gave aya the hidden blade into the creed. So if that friend was added he would probably also explain Darius' style to Aya and Bayek thus making it a part of the creed

Counterargument to the whole criticism of Darius being a proper Assassin before the Brotherhood existed: The Templars have older antecedents (Order of the Ancients and the Cult of Kosmos) with similar goals, structures, methods of operation, and use of heavy-handed iconography, so why is it so unimaginable that the Assassins have similar precursors? If we assume that the Templars/Ancients/etc generally "win" the larger conflicts between themselves and their ideological opponents - which I don't think is a reach, given the relatively broken (or outright non-existent) state of the Brotherhood in just about every game - it makes sense that they would erase those opponents as much as possible in victory. Darius obviously fails to wipe out the Order of the Ancients since they still exist in roughly the same (or a more powerful) form some 400 years later. Wouldn't it make sense for them to destroy as much evidence of Darius' organization as possible in that interim to prevent imitator groups from rising up? Hell, Darius' hidden blades are a major point of the canonical foundation of the Hidden Ones in Origins. It's not inconceivable that two different organizations - even a pair separated by centuries - with essentially the same goals would adopt similar methods and icons. Especially when both organizations in question wield the same unconventional weapon to achieve those goals.
