The actual talent always leaves or gets fired because their work is so expensive to make & the big heads in charge don't care about making quality products for a target audience anymore. Rather, they want to spend as little as possible on something made to target as big an audience as possible to maximize returns. In the end, the product becomes stale bread & no one wants it. It's become a self-fulfilling prophecy at this point.

Todd is right: empty space is not boring. What's boring is Starfield's version of empty space. Our own solar system has a 22km high mountain, sub-surface oceans, active volcanos, sulphuric acid rain and a thousand other things. Starfield has rocks.

That same level of depth that should’ve been implemented here applies to Helldivers as well. Planets largely being flat with slight hills and bodies of water/craters only there to serve as hazards makes the gameplay variety in planets purely(and barely) a skybox/flora thing. Great comment and I want more people to acknowledge the sad state of level design here. I can walk out to any forest and engage with more of any one aspect at play than what’s within either of those games 😢… helldivers might have a bit more enemies than a forest tho 😳 but a squirrel would be more engaging than anything in starfield

If I hurt your feelings don’t worry I’m sure helldivers is fun with the most recent update, but that doesn’t change its ‘pseudo’ variety.

Right! Like seriously! The biggest problem they have with this expansion is that it's way to pricey for its size they should only be asking around the $15 mark. Even if the DLC worked flawlessly (it doesn't) it's still a relatively small DLC. It's only one very quick quest line that you can get through in maybe 2 and a half hours depending on loading times (which takes forever because...Bethesda) but they are essentially asking for half the price of a newly released FULL game. Meaning the DLC should have more like 4 to 5 hours minimum of play time to make up for the price.

I hate how people claim that Bethesda games are stagnating. That's not true. Their games are regressing. The writing has been on a downward spiral since at least Oblivion and they keep cutting RPG systems. Worse, even the exploration has reached a new low, which has arguably been Bethesda's strong suit since also at least Oblivion.

If you want a real kick in setting and lore done by Bethesda, look at their efforts in 2002's Morrowind and compare that to their other games, even Skyrim. IMO, in terms of lore and establishing setting, Bethesda was at their peak with Morrowind. Morrowind was a strange setting with locals having very in depth history and traditions that were unique. A major problem with a lot of fantasy settings is they often tend to be "Medieval Europe but may some magic and a few pointed ears." Not Morrowind. Whoever Bethesda had tapped to establish that game's lore deserves a lot of acclaim. As well as the people that had to design and make that game's world.
@zeriel9148

I'm not sure "regressing" is the right word as their past games were not that bad. It's not like Arena was as bad as Fallout 4 and Starfield and then it got better. Their first games were their BEST games. So it's decline more than it is regression.

The Elder Scrolls VI is going to sell millions and have people lining up to scream what a work of genius it is, _solely_ because it's the follow-up to Skyrim and for no other reason, even if it's actually the worst game Bethesda have ever made. I dont just think Shattered Space feels like cut content, but rather that it just is. That would explain why it was already being announced before the game even launched, why the storyline forces you to join the cult of the serpent (since it was the faction quest line for them we never got in the base game), and why the quest line is only 5 hours long. Cutting this out and charging $30 for it is truly un-excusable from Bethesda.

Bethesda's last 2 releases (and it's treatment of previous titles via recent updates) have displayed the company's true goals. *They want money.* That is it. Their only goal, and they achieved it. Bethesda released their overpriced, under developed trash, and morons bought it. They even bought an afterthought of a DLC. Bethesda spent the one coin they had left in trade for cash; customer loyalty. They spent it, and now it is gone. Maybe more people will join me in the "Never Bethesda" camp now. I gave up on them once I saw what their intent was. Minimal effort for maximum profit, hoping modders would do all the actual work for them. They won't. Goodbye Bethesda. Good riddance.

The worst part about starfield is they talk about the mech and bio weapon wars all the time, so they made an interesting timeline in their universe, and then start the game after it’s all over. It’s like going to a history museum of a game that was cool but never existed.

Refusing to listen to fan criticism is the biggest sign of inflated egos, thinking they know better than the people who buy and play their games. It's also the quickest way to get your studio shut down for lack of profitability. Or at the very least, layoffs galore. The most frustrating part is that they'll march to their graves genuinely believing that they did nothing wrong, and that it was us, the fans, who were in the wrong for being too critical.

another factor why starfield is divisive and disliked in the way it is, is that its the reason we don't have a ES6 or FO5 out yet. we've all been waiting for these games for a decade but instead we're met with starfield, a game and concept no one really asked for at any point. its bound to make people wan tit to at least be worth it or reach their levels but instead, it falls massively short. Starfield imo is a game for no one, not for fps fans, rpg fans, open world fans, sci fi fans or even bethesda fans. the reason bethesda games are loved is their awesome exploration... but starfield completely removed the one aspect that made them as loved as they are.

Here's the thing; I knew IMMEDIATELY after playing the base game, that the Shattered Space DLC was going to be an absolute joke. This "expansion" wouldn't exist if Bethesda wasn't legally obligated to fulfill the "Ultimate Edition" bundles. They didn't have to sell this DLC, everyone already bought it when the hype-train was at full speed. If there's another "expansion" next year, you might see them actually attempt to make something worth selling, but until then, Starfield is still Starfield- it just has more of Emil's awful writing than before.

I think what makes me the most mad about Starfield is that it dashed all expectations... in the wrong ways. We expected hand-crafted worlds to explore... we didn't get those; at most, we got empty landscapes with a few outposts. They said the universe would be infinite to explore.... when you can clearly see there's just a handful of systems and only some of them can be landed on (then again, it would be hard to land on a gaz giant unless there was a station in orbit or in it). They said there would be an interesting questline with a twist and sure, there was a twist... but that twist is just making New Game + an actual game mechanic. Space combat isn't that impressive... if anything, it is sometimes really frustrating instead. Can't even fly to the planets, they're just floating .gifs. Gear is tasteless and has no identity other than "bullet gun, laser gun, etc." and really, anything else than bullets or explosives are lackluster. While the armor looks like spacesuits, which is nice it itself, it's also very non-plused. I think the only thing I actually enjoyed was the design of space station, as they were closer to what you'd expect a space station to be overall : cramped, utilitarian, the kind of small haven from the void of space. A few exceptions of course but most of them followed that trend. Ship builder was nice too despite a few mind-boggling limitation but it did allow to give late game players something to do with their wealth. So really, it comes down to being a game that promised a lot but didn't deliver... like No Man's Sky did originally. The difference being is that unlike Starfield, the devs of No Man's Sky have real passion for them games, not only for their paychecks which Bethesda seems to have embraced the latter.
