And when an amazing Triple A game is finally released (aka Stellar Blade), all the Critics, SJW's, feminists, and beta cucks came out and cheered it being censored because "the girl was too hot!" The utter crap that ShiftUp went through at the hands of the DEI polluted western hellscape just because they wanted to deliver on a game featuring a beautiful protagonist (backed by fantastic "bug free" gameplay) is unconscionable and Playstation should be ashamed of the part they played in that whole censorship episode. They deserve every bit of negative pushback they are receiving from consumers because they have proven time and time again that they do not care what we want. It's all about sacrificing our hopes and desires in the name of their woke policies and corporate corruption/greed. I was not very familiar with Sony or the "lore behind it all" back when I purchased my PS4 (which was my first console). I just used it off and on and downloaded a few games that appealed to me just to pass the time. The PS5 was released but I was satisfied and didn't heed the hype too much. When Stellar Blade was finally announced for PS5, that's when I really started to perk up my ears and began paying more attention to PS news. I then decided to grab a PS5 slim shortly before the game's release for 399.99 at Best Buy and preordered the game (which I swore I would never do) but wanted to support Shiftup due to the ridiculous controversy the media was feeding regarding Eve being "too sexy." Well...I must say I had a complete blast and fell in complete love with gaming as a result. And as I have become more immersed into the gaming community, I've come to realize just how out of touch Sony appears to be with their base which is too bad. I especially love the "Make Gaming Great Again" campaign you've started haha. It is sorely needed fr, fr because they have gotten away with too much and have become lazy as a result. Hopefully something can be done to get rid of the DEI stuff in games as well because it has made selecting them much more of a challenge than it already is. I think Gamers will prevail and hopefully someone can wrestle Sony away from San Fransico and return it to Japan where it belongs because until that happens they will continue this destructive trend of mediocrity.

Consoles aren't PC's and the biggest mistake they ever made was forgetting that distinction. Can I play the game without microtransactions, always online and massive patch updates? That's what consoles should be for - strong single player experiences, with optional multiplayer. No one wants to play WoW on a console with a controller - quit the insanity.

The PS5 only sold well because owners where expecting the same momentum from the PS4 to continue, it takes a while for the market to react and now the reaction is starting to catch up. I expect the PS6 whether it's good or bad to have lower sales because of the PS5, a lot of people are now going to be cautious about going into another generation lacking those story driven first party games that they may never get. We have now gone through an entire generation without any Last of Us games, only remasters.

Fun fact, the PS4 figure is from 2022, PS5 is from September 2024... So unless they somehow sold double the total number in the 4 last months, not it's not ahead. I could even say the momentum discussed by OP is very arguable. The only reason they were ahead this generation was by default.

Sony have reversed the mandatory PSN requirement for their games on Steam yes, however the games still aren't available to purchase in the 170+ countries that don't have a PSN region. Even I, as a layman, could tell that all that investment into live service is a bad idea. The boardmembers at Sony must be total idiots with zero knowledge about the market. I knew it was a bad idea from the start. Live service games are a limited market, like every market really. Yes you can achieve spectacular profits on it. But you cant plan for those profits. You make a good single player game with no nonsense in it, you're gonna sell quite a decent amount of copies. Even if you make a good live service game, you're still competing with every other live service which includes the dominant ones like Fortnite which are not very easy to poach players from. The only way to have success with a live service is to make the best game, an innovating game, you can and hope the audience responds to it. Because, unlike single player games, every live service game is a significant investment in not just money... but time. Seasons, battle passes, getting good etc. It's quite the ask on the consumer, who may very well already have a live service or two they dedicate time to. Single player games dont ask for that same investment on the consumer, which really makes it a safer product to make. And history also shows us that chasing trends does not work. The 2000s and early 2010s every publisher tried to launch their own WoW-killer. Not a single one of those games managed to kill WoW, most barely had a sizeable player base half a year after launch. Many reasons exist for this, like rushed development, bad ideas taking centre stage... but mostly it was due to WoW being bigger, better, more content, players already deeply invested and so on. The live service trend chase is the hunt for the WoW-killer 2.0... and any person involved with gaming as a profession should know how that went down and the difficulties faced. But apparently it does not take a brain to become CEO of Sony, and many other companies... just a talent for bullshit and a willingness to stick ones nose far up investors bums while sweet-talking them with empty promises.

D2 is stale and bloated and they try to carry on with it instead of doing D3 which was clearly the answer as long as 2 years ago. Speaking of Guerrilla Games, the lead writer of Fallout New Vegas (John Gonzales, who worked at GG after Obsidian) just came back to Obsidian after 14 years. You should do a video exploring that a little, I’m sure it’s still a pipe dream, but still now Obsidian has Josh Sawyer and Gonzales back together, under the same umbrella as BGS…. A solid Fallout spin off by Obsidian seems more plausible now.

I mainly got my ps5 for Miles Morales, I would have waited years to play it, and when I did get it I was happy. I did get other games (Ratchet and Clank, Ghost of Tsushima and others) but now, I haven't been that excited for the new releases; sure there's still amazing games, but none that screams to me that I should get it as fast as I can. More of, yeah I can wait for when it's discounted. PS5, as much as I want to say it's amazing it really wasn't

Another great video. I've been playing Helldivers 2 for a year coming in 4 days, we've had hills and valleys for balance and player count, but I'm still very pleased with the content and gameplay. With all of the micro transactions, live services, dumpster fire launches, lack of quality; I genuinely expect a major industry crash to hit hard. 11:50 I'm not sure that had as much to do with it being Horizon. It was just a bad game. Once people learned it was drastically different from other Lego games, they just didn't buy it. The problem is the same across the board. Bad games. Poor concepts, terrible writing and stories. For a live service, as a player base, we were asking for something like Helldivers for over a decade. Something to play with friends, reasonable monetisation of things you can earn in game by putting in the time. Add in a fun concept, good execution, very good gun play, and it was bound to be popular. We all know what makes a good game. It's just the corporations got involved and they have zero idea what sells. They just look at past trends and say, "do something like that". And they aren't happy with a decent return on investment. They want ALL the money. Any casual game player could have saved WB millions. Suicide Squad was awful. Painfully obvious that it was awful. It amazes me that with all this money they spend, why not at the start of development, spend a few quid on getting actual gamers involved?

I've noticed that there's a percentage lifelong gamers in their 50's didn't buy the PS5 generation. They still game on the previous gen; ''all the games come out on the PS4 anyway'' they say to me when I ask why. Before then it was about ''not putting money in the scalpers hand'' as there was a shortage of consoles in the UK. What they say is right and the money I paid to a scalper could have wisely spent enhancing my PC.

I was originally interested in the PS5. But they let the scalpers have all of them. Then they raised the price of the console. They started selling the pro version with a disc attachment for a total of the price of a small gaming pc. While there's a good argument of having a solid library of exclusive titles to sell a platform, they didn't even have that. I could have lived without playing any of the Sony games this generation and it's good they did release them for PC. Even if the PSN requirement absolutely suck.

About 6 months after getting the PS5, I started to feel I wasted money on the 5... 2 years go by and Starfield was already announced as an Xbox exclusive (which turned out to be fine as a PS user), RDO never turned into GTAO... ES6 was never going to come out... CP2077 was an absolute crime at launch... I played more PS4 and PS3 games on my PS5 than anything... still do.

I remember I tried Destiny 2 back when it went f2p but quit after about a month when it was clear it was more of a 'free trial' than a genuine f2p game. No idea if that's changed now, but it I lack the ambition to find out. Imagine if Bungie made an honest to god Marathon game instead of whatever live service nonsense they've slapped the Marathon label on.

God of War Egypt is the one I've been looking forward to ever since they announced GoW wouldn't stick to only greek mythology, but by now I'm of the mindset that the changes made to mythologies and history would make the game not worthwhile for me. I hope others can enjoy it though.

As a PC gamer looking in, all I see is a Sony adjusting to their poor business decisions, making corrections, leadership changes and planning for the next generation and while even Sony was at it's worst Xbox still couldn't keep up. Instead they're doing next to nothing with their $70bil acquisition, closing studios that released successful games while they lay a very clear foundation to become the Netflix of gaming. Forgive me, what's Netflix known for? Quantity over quality, cloud based trash with a sub that increases multiple times a year. You're right, Sony vs Xbox doesn't matter, but considering how anti-consumer Xbox's future plans are, I'll back Sony every day if the week if it means avoiding the the future Microsoft wants for gaming.

The attach rate on these single-player games isn't great relative to the consoles sold. It's a problem and with that extra income from live service and PC, I'm not sure what they could do.

I absolutely hated the last of us part two because of it’s god awful story and ending, but the gameplay was amazing, I cannot believe they canceled the factory multiplayer for it. Same with the Spider-Man multiplayer that would’ve been absolutely amazing. Sony has made so many awful choices this generation it’s mind-boggling.
