Beautiful build. I’ve rewatched this several times. I come back from time to time for inspiration and motivation.

My friend and I have been exploring how to get into general aviation affordably, so this was a very interesting option to review. This was an excellent, excellent walk around for a newbie. Concise, to the point, and full of information. Bravo and thank you. It's a beautiful airplane.

hi! did you build the 103 or LSA version? just wondering because im planning to start a 103 version affordaplane myself, but there is almost no documentation on it. If you did build the 103 version how did it go?

The rounded wingtips are suppose to keep air from spilling over the end of the wing and losing lift. I think droop tips probably work even better.

I have since changed the wheels as I wanted to do more outback flying but the wheels you see held up ok. You can check out my build here: www.mykitlog.com/ontherun

Hey Darren, where did you source the wood for the wings? Did you use spruce? I'm in Perth starting a Legal Eagle XL.
@DCSquared3 жыл бұрын
Hey Ross. I bought mine as a kit from a guy in QLD that had been imported but never started. The timber is spruce but you can use aircraft grade hoop pine as an alternative. I think the hoop pine is about 10% heavier. www.mykitlog.com/users/display_log.php?user=ontherun&project=2818&category=13765&log=278698&row=1

from what ive been studding those wing tips you made to look like the cub should increase the stability and give u better stall profile should help for short landings and takeoffs please correct me if im wrong but they should help and look great
@DCSquared3 жыл бұрын
The jury is still out on performance improvements with the wingtips. I may still get around to finishing them one day.
@rjhinnj Жыл бұрын
Actually, rounded wing tips are 90% aesthetic and add no significant flight/control improvement for the added weight, especially for a rectangular wing plan form. Induced wing drag caused by spillage of higher pressure air on bottom of wing to top is not affected with either type of wing tip design. Winglets are required. But staying in the 103 category might be difficult with anything extra like that as this bird comes as close as it can already (254 lbs empty). In fact, Darren is yours LE under that weight? Not sure what the restrictions are in Australia.

Hi Darren, I love your videos and you have done an excellent job on your legal eagle. I noticed that your fuel tanks appear to be polyethylene. Can you share where you got them?

Got them from Team Minimax however I am not sure that they still sell them. More info on my blog mykitlog.com/users/display_log.php?user=ontherun&project=2818&category=13775&log=278840&row=9

Curious about the oratex costs. I have emailed oratex multiple times and i really feel like they dodge the cost question. Also, i hope you dont mind if i completely coppy your design scheme! Right down to the tundra tires. I love it! I only can hope mine comes out near as nice!
@DCSquared3 жыл бұрын
I bought my Oratex direct from Germany and had it shipped to Australia. Copying mine doesn't make your Legal Eagle uniquely Travis'. Heaps of colour and highlight options out there so why not stand out from the crowd. I already have colour scheme ideas for another should I build again.... :)

Forgive my naivety but is that oil and bubbles in the oil pressure line going to the gauge? Does it need to be bled?
@DCSquared3 жыл бұрын
I used to think the same too but was told that for a system which reads a static pressure, as opposed to one doing work with hydraulics, the bubbled air is not a problem. If the oil pressure at the engine is constant, the oil and air in the line will be compressed to a similar constant, indicating the same result on the pressure gauge.

Great aircraft, but it does looks like pop-rivets failing on the seat-mesh could become a real safety issue at some point.
