Legal writing course: Canons of statutory interpretation

The law is made of words! If you want to be a successful law student, you need to be an expert with those words.
And some of those words are, frankly, a bit ridiculous, because they are in Latin, a language which died out centuries ago. Still, they are important: the "canons" of statutory interpretation help you to understand the words of a statute, and will help you with your own legal writing if (for instance in a contract) it is likely the court will at least initially approach the task with the canons in mind.

Hi Anthony, I am half way watching this video and I have to pause to leave a comment. I have read lots of examples to remember "Ejusdem Generis" and I finally find it easy to link the funny word to an example of skateboard through your video. Thank you!!

I'm really glad they are helpful Janine. I've always been a bit frustrated at the limited viewership the Legal Writing videos get - trust me, as a practitioner and an employer, when we're looking to hire graduate lawyers, the biggest question is whether they can write :) All the best!
