Rice has been playing fine. Cabrera at 3rd. They need a deeper bench and 1 mpre SP and some BP arms obviously. Birdie was perfect at 3rd as a backup or starter until he got hurt. The catcher situation is odd as well. Maybe shoukf have kept Higgy . They really need 2 go 4-1 in there next 5. They haven't won a series I think in thier last 5.

The problem is that they have a number of weaknesses that would be too hard to fill on a single deadline. It’s the amount of changes that would be frustrating in December but possible. In July, it’s just not possible. They need help on the corners, catcher and bullpen. The fact is that the deadline has changed. There’s too many contenders. The Yankees are running out of farm pieces as well. This is especially true given Steinbrenner signaling that the salary needs to be brought down. If he believes that, then he will want to keep those farm pieces for the next 2-3 seasons. I just don’t think it’s possible. They will likely get a minor upgrade at one of the areas they need help in and just have to pray that they will find their way into the WS. I don’t see them going far in October again. I’ve seen enough of Boone’s yankees to know that the hot runs they go on before the ASG are an illusion every year.

The tragic error Cashman made over the winter was to not get a better supporting cast for Judge and Soto. Needs: better hitting catcher, a hitting 3B, a better defender and hitter at 2B, better arms in the bullpen. Without help here Judge and Soto can’t do it all.

No the tragic error was not trading for burnes and giving cole’s spot to an unproven prospect who hadnt pitched in almost 2 years and never threw more than 100 innings in a season before . What we are seeing with gil is very very predictable

For all the praise of the pitching coach, when things go bad in season, they aren't corrected. See Chapman, Severino, and Rodon in '23. Can he actually "fix" Gil and Rodon this year?

Who do they have to trade? Obviously other teams will want Dominguez and Jones. I don’t see the Yankees doing that because they need insurance if they can’t sign Soto. Maybe they trade Jones to get something good but not Dominguez. To get the guys you want they would drain the farm.
