Losing Soto is turning out great. We lost a "good" hitter, but average fielder and runner with Soto. We have gained Fried, Williams, Bellinger and could end up with Bregman and Walker. That is something way better than resigning Soto to an out of bounds $800 million.

The Yankees.CAN'T sign them both unless they're willing to compensate with a boatload of draft picks and international pool money. Why are you people NOT understanding that the Yankees will NEVER do that! They aren't giving up 4 draft picks and $2M in international pool money. Stop the stupid wish thinking. This isn't going to happen. I don't care if we're talking about a combination of Alonso with Walker or Santander or Bregman, all those players have received qualifying offers from their prior teams. Signing ANY OF THEM means compensation to their prior teams by the Yankees. PERIOD! The Yankees have already.signed Fried who received a QO but they also had Soto who they wisely QO'd to offset the Fried signing at least to some extent. The Yankees COULD elect to compromise themselves and sign one more QO'd free agent if they're willing to live with the loss of picks and the money once, but there is no way they are going to shell out for two. So the Yankees are left at this point, either continuing on the trade route or beginning to sign free agents who haven't been QO'd. Those are the options.
