Asa high schooler researching about what colleges nowadays want, (and presumably what Elle went through) they look at not only academics but also extracurricular engagement. Although she may act “ditzy” as you say, a major part of the application process is the essay and interview which both require a confident and outgoing personality which Elle clearly has.
