I don't see this as her using her fashion knowledge to save the day. I see this as a point where the situation fell into territory she knew all too well, completely obliterating the confidence issues and nervousness she was suffering, allowing her to use her legitimate lawyer skills to save the day :)

And even so, knowledge of fashion and choosing a career in fashion is not shallow at all. It is actually quite competitive and rigorous if you want to make it in the business.

Ben Simmons yeah, but other lawyers also wouldn’t cross examine in such a way as to violate the witnesses’ rights against self discrimination! In the real world, if a witness to a crime suddenly confesses (on the stand), the prosecution can make a motion to exclude their testimony... because it goes against their theory of the case, that the person on trial did it. Of course, the defence for that guy can argue that their statements should be upheld into evidence, since it vindicates their own client! Not that this isn’t a great movie, and Elle is incredibly smart. The prosecutor is an idiot, because she saw only a dumb blonde, and wasn’t prepared to object when Elle started grilling Chutney! If she had been more prepared, she could have objected before Chutney actually got to the point where she confessed! But she wasn’t paying enough attention! 😛

@@quizzlybear A typical gun shot is between 150 and 175 decibels. Putting a "silencer" on those guns will bring the decibels down to around 120 to 150 decibels. To put that into perspective, a jackhammer is around 120 decibels and a jet engine is around 150 decibels, so the average gun with a suppressor is still going to be at least as load as a jackhammer.

@@brandyw.7943 Yep, by her OWN admission, cleverly extracted by Elle. The brevity of that trial,saved a lot of time and money, since there'd be no need for further investigations, or extra police time needed. No expensive detectives and extra finger printing, and an innocent woman ( Brooke ) has been spared a worrying time, wondering if she was going to be sent down for a murder she didn't commit. It was a win win situation all round,cept for tomato chutney there. Those tears in HER eyes were the usual ones of guilt and self pity.

Premeditated murder whether successful or not can be charged as actual murder if evidence is there to prove this as a fact. In this case all the proof is there and then some when she openly admits in court that she did intend to kill brooke but shot her father instead. Because her intent was to murder a human and as result she ended up murdering someone, even if she "claims" to have killed the wrong person, she can and would be charged for first degree murder.

You know what always baffled me is how the she never made the connection well after Elle did. She's literally sitting there talking about perms and water and she just is not getting that her alibi is being obliterated before her eyes 🤦‍♀️

The bathroom is a set of four walls surrounded by metal or plastic piping. In most cases the piping would have made the sound travel throughout the house where it would have been amplified by the piping and so Chutney would have heard the sound REALLY well even in the shower. She isn't a good liar. Also Chutney was not only guilty of murder, but of being incredibly stupid as well. You don't handle a firearm if you don't know what you're doing, and Rule #1 of shooting is to make certain of your target and backstop.

If Chutney had the presence of mind, she could have claimed that a bird pooped on her head while coming home that day, necessitating that she wash her hair and that she then later, on another day, got a new perm before coming to court since her curls had, in fact, been ruined, as Elle had said. Something like that. But, too late! Moral: Don't panic at accusations: there's always an excuse.

she would have had to have evidence for going to get a second perm, like a witness at the hair salon or receipts proving she was there for a second time, which she didn't have.
@jtg3765
@jtg3765 3 жыл бұрын
@@Kai-yq4ur First, in my scenario, Chutney had the presence of mind not to accidentally confess, so I don't think it's really in the court's interest to "track down and verify a perm" - Chutney''s not the one on trial. Even if it later went there, Chutney could say, "Hey I never thought such a thing could ever need a receipt as evidence till now - I'm just hearing Elle's wild theory now. Who could have guessed such baloney? For my second perm, I went several weeks back at a salon near my gym, I think. Not even sure of the day, and I don't know the name of the person who serviced me. I had never been there before. I doubt they'd remember me," etc. In addition, courts themselves don't do investigations, and Chutney doesn't need to cooperate with defense counsel one bit or even talk to them. Only the police would be possible investigators, but that is a moot point since they already have their suspect in court on trial. Chutney is off scot free, as long as she doesn't confess, my scenario. I like your thinking, though
@Kai-yq4ur
@Kai-yq4ur 3 жыл бұрын
@@jtg3765 ohhhh that makes more sense. Yeah I guess since she wasn't the one on trial she wouldn't have to show any evidence, though I think if Elle had enough reason to believe that Chutney was guilty she could have appealed to the judge. You're obviously much more knowledgeable than me though, I'm a teenage aspiring lawyer/journalist so this was really cool to read! Thanks :)

Priceless Yeah, that's my favourite part too. She starts out all stammering and goofy and nervous, and from the moment that the word PERM is mentioned, she suddenly turns into a bulldog, that won't let go. In plain english,she turns into a hectoring, haranguing, bullying attorney. Who is 30000% sure of her facts/ evidence, and makes sure that EVERYONE knows it including the person she's cross examining. Viz Chunky. I reckon I'D be terrified if student attorney Woods were to start on ME. She sure can be terrifying. Cripes.
