I don't see this as her using her fashion knowledge to save the day. Ben Simmons yeah, but other lawyers also wouldn’t cross examine in such a way as to violate the witnesses’ rights against self discrimination! In the real world, if a witness to a crime suddenly confesses (on the stand), the prosecution can make a motion to exclude their testimony... because it goes against their theory of the case, that the person on trial did it. Of course, the defence for that guy can argue that their statements should be upheld into evidence, since it vindicates their own client! Not that this isn’t a great movie, and Elle is incredibly smart. The prosecutor is an idiot, because she saw only a dumb blonde, and wasn’t prepared to object when Elle started grilling Chutney! If she had been more prepared, she could have objected before Chutney actually got to the point where she confessed! But she wasn’t paying enough attention! 😛

@@quizzlybear A typical gun shot is between 150 and 175 decibels. Putting a "silencer" on those guns will bring the decibels down to around 120 to 150 decibels. Premeditated murder whether successful or not can be charged as actual murder if evidence is there to prove this as a fact. In this case all the proof is there and then some when she openly admits in court that she did intend to kill brooke but shot her father instead. Because her intent was to murder a human and as result she ended up murdering someone, even if she "claims" to have killed the wrong person, she can and would be charged for first degree murder.

I am a licensed hairdresser and i can honestly say that Elle was wrong when she said you can't wet your hair for 24 hours after a perm after the risk of deactivating the ammonium thyglocolate. That is partly true. You CAN WET your hair before 24 hours and it will not deactivate the A.T. you're not supposed to SHAMPOO your hair for 24 hours due the that deactivation of the A.T. Then the perm WILL loosen and the curls will start to straighten again. But you absolutely CAN WET your hair within 24 hours. I always used to tell my clients it's safe to WET it within 24 hours. But as far as washing the hair, I would tell them to not wash it for at least 48 hours to be on the safe side.

Priceless Yeah, that's my favourite part too. She starts out all stammering and goofy and nervous, and from the moment that the word PERM is mentioned, she suddenly turns into a bulldog, that won't let go. In plain english, she turns into a hectoring, haranguing, bullying attorney. Who is 30000% sure of her facts/ evidence, and makes sure that EVERYONE knows it including the person she's cross examining. Viz Chunky. I reckon I'D be terrified if student attorney Woods were to start on ME. She sure can be terrifying. Cripes.

I've watched this movie over and over again...and never tired of watching it. It is so amazing. How Elle interrogated a suspect and knews how to let that suspect's secrets reveals.

6:48 I think David looks adorable, even though his character is definitely older than me

I just LOVE LOVE LOVE the transformation of Elle from a nervous little nobody one minute and about 30 seconds later she turns into the best version of a hard nosed prosecuting counsel that I've EVER seen. I swear I'd have been nervous as hell if SHE was cross examining me.

You know what always baffled me is how the she never made the connection well after Elle did. She's literally sitting there talking about perms and water and she just is not getting that her alibi is being obliterated before her eyes 🤦♀️

I love this movie. This is a happy day in these scene. Im so impressed by her fashion knowledge to win this murder case. . I knew Ali Larter was innocent the entire time.

@Cmet332 =/= means "not equal" And yes, that was the point the movie was trying to make. What we got instead is "Elle is blonde but not stupid, but pretty much everyone else in this movie is" because, really, no one else can see anything wrong with "I didn't hear the shot because I was in the shower"? ( And I'm not talking about the perm deal)

And if, in fact, you weren’t washing your hair, ‘cause I suspect you weren’t because your curls are still intact, wouldn’t you have heard the gunshot? Brilliant delivery.
