It appears that the tentacles behind her appears to be suggesting that she becomes giant somehow. Notice that when Eric's ship comes in, it looks as though the tentacles are wrapping around it, sort of like the famous Kraken etching.

Like, as awesome as Ariel was here, I can't deny that Ursula could have won had she not switched gears to "NOW LET'S HAVE A GIRLS' NIGHT OUT AND KILL YOUR DADDY :D"

They didn't do Vanessa on Broadway because it was too hard to stage. Plus, this is how the original Grimm's fairytale goes except in the fairytale Eric marries one of the other princesses and Ariel commits suicide and turns into seafoam. So I wouldn't complain about this ending.
