Lège-Cap-Ferret is a commune in the Gironde department in Aquitaine in southwestern France. The commune stretches along the length of the Cap Ferret peninsula, from the village of Lège in the north to the point of Cap Ferret in the south.
Lege Cap Ferret borders on the Bay of Arcachon , it borders on the west side north of Cap Ferret . However, the tip of Cap Ferret was part of the municipality of La Teste de Buch until the 1970s; only after its incorporation as common Lege took the name of Lege-Cap-Ferret. Its inhabitants are called Lègeots or Légeois
The town is bordered by the Cape Ferret south, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, the Arcachon basin in the east and the municipalities of the Porge (north) and Ares (east). The municipality lies on twenty kilomètes between Cap Ferret and its northeast end. The main village (town) is located about 40 km from Bordeaux and 25 km from Arcachon by road (only 10 km as the crow flies); Cap Ferret, 15 km from the center, is located 5 km from the port of Arcachon.
The town of Lege-Cap Ferret includes all of the Cap Ferret peninsula, which separates the Atlantic Ocean from Arcachon . This land of "Sand and Water" was formed during the last millennium by accumulation of sand banks taking to support the mainland of the barony of Lege. The territory of the peninsula and one located west of the channel is composed of a majority of dunes that have been stabilized from 1850 . The territory of the village of Lège is uniformly flat with an average altitude of less than 5 meters.
