I managed to find this game once again before my birthday back in May (the ORIGINAL PSOne version, not downloading it on the PS3, though I MIGHT do that eventually), and I was SO HAPPY that I did! I freaking LOVE this game still, even with all the newer RPGs that have come out! Classics will NEVER DIE!

The soundtrack of this game is grossly underrated. I went out of my way to find the artists at some point and they had done next to nothing, I think one of them did the background soundtracks to some generic dramas. What a wasted talent.

+Daxinar0 I just felt it was too derivative and formulaic. The characters, their personalities, each Dragoon having a corresponding element (Fire, Wind, etc.), it's all been done a thousand times before. There's not much to be impressed by in this game (aside from the soundtrack) and I got the feeling the developers went into this thinking they knew how to make a great RPG when really they were just following a formula. This is all IMO of course.

Morbutt I get that, but for some reason the archetypes of the characters never bothered me. I felt that each one was likable and endearing in their own way, and was legit sad when Lavits fell to Loyd's blade(Spoilers lol, but I assume you don't care.). Nothing super deep, but each character had a motivation and to some extent an arc from beginning to end. Some RPG's cant even do that much. I found the setting to be very beautiful, and thought the games backgrounds were, and still are, some of the best I've ever seen in an RPG. Even if the creators might have started making this game from the perspective of "We should make a four disc RPG do compete with the likes of Square!", which looking back from a marketing perspective is hard to argue, I think the people who worked on it were genuinely creative and put their all into making a rich setting. Also, I though the addition system in combat and thought it was genuinely innovative. Hell, much more recent RPG's are now making timing based combo's in their combat. I don't remember seeing anything like that in a turned based fighting system before.

I wonder if they ever tried or thought about doing a sequel prequel about the dragon war conflict? I'm sure there should be something to that they could do that leads all the way to the origanal legend of dragoon.

I think they originally had plans to make a prequel set during the dragon campaign during the creation war and they had even done allot of work on a second installment just for some reason it got cancelled mid completion. Honestly I believe FF had a hand in that. I don’t think they expected the game to be as instantly popular as it was so they threw their monetary weight their way and bought out their creative silence.. I swear if I ever become a millionaire I will single handedly fund a remake of the game with DMC 5 graphics. The story was absolutely beautiful and with today’s graphics/ gameplay mechanics I definitely think it would breath life back into the same and bring it to a whole new generation. It’d be a instant masterpiece. I can picture the trailer dropping on E3 with perfect clarity. Throw in some scenes from the creation war, the black monster scene from Celes, some iconic dragoon transformations showing you being able to fly through beautifully rendered fantasy landscapes and finally some combat all with this song playing in the background

A good rpg? I agree. A masterpiece? Certainly not. Game was full of black screen bugs, excessive detours, too linear path even on world map (at that time, it already lost to free roaming final fantasy series) & critisized for its too timed accurate addition (I can't deny that, it's not for everyone's taste). I think that's why it never sees a sequel.
