@Joequidae2 ай бұрын
im pretty worried about the actual gameplay as you say it seems like it doesnt have much direction, and that was exactly what my experience was like playing other windstorm games; not very cohesive, and when a game is so "mild" as in focused on exploration, leisure, 'coziness' etc. that can get boring very quickly... so the world must be absolutely stunning to pull that off, which is not what im expecting. also i think your annoyance over the addition of warmbloods to the game is absolutely valid, and if i was anywhere as invested in the windstorm series id be pissed at the community too. its just going to take away from the immersiveness of the setting that i believe this game will desperately need, and personally the typical 'aesthetic warmbloods' genre of horse games is getting overdone and i am tired of it personally i find myself going for the draft horses if there are any, but i think mongolian horses have a rugged and wild beauty in their own right and are very underappreciated. (same goes for arabians, most people idolize the noodle halter types, when actual purebred arabians are beautiful in a similar way i see mongolian horses; hardy, brave and impressively enduring to the world.) thank you for another lovely review rattle, doing the research so we dont have to ❤

Plenty of horses are aesthetically 'ugly' if what you want is a warmblood but they're so pretty in their own unique ways and it's disappointing to see the developers got bullied into changing the horses because the community couldn't be excited to see a more obscure breed being featured (this used to be something that got people wildly excited too!)

yeah, in all honesty doing so is almost smart in a way as you are actively warding off an audience you Don't want for a game like this. visibly taking a stance like this tends to be good to deter the kind of player that feels more invested in posting slurs in the game's community spaces than in actually playing it also. a guy like this isnt gonna play a game with a nonwhite protagonist who are we kidding here
@reanimatedmagpie2 ай бұрын
so it IS if anything smart marketing because these types arent gonna play the game to begin with but you are signaling to the people who would want a game free of those types in the community that it's maybe a game to consider. it's a good sign for a game in a majority nonwhite setting, and, if anything an Absence of that might worry people it's gonna be some orientalist bullshit instead of a faithful game

Something i wrote under abigail's video about the horses was that im sad that they ended up adding in the warmblood (i get it, they have to sell a game) and its not really because they dont fit the 13th century (i love when stuff is accurate but also im a strong believer that accuracy and realism shouldnt outweigh fun) but more that this game could be a breaking point of that "tall slim warmblood pretty, small stocky horse ugly" mentality and actually expose people to something different and possibly push other games to actually add in those overlooked "ugly" horses- its like a cat game not adding in sphinx cats, devon rex's, lykoi's etc because they're not 'aesthetically pleasing'. Most people form quite strong bonds with their pixel pets and more often than not- something that was really ugly or freaky to you before now you might find quite endearing purely because you ended up getting exposed and/or interacting with that certain thing
@YTRattle2 ай бұрын

@Thedarkydragoni2 ай бұрын
@@YTRattle yeahh, I do kind of understand the devs ofc since well- as you said they want to sell a game so they're trying to appeal to the audience, but also I feel like alot of game developers go the "we need to listen to our community" a bit too hard, like dont get me wrong- a dev should listen to what the community has to say but also they should be able to realize when the community has an actually valid point/complaint and when they're just- either wrong, unkowledgable or ignorant- like the warmblood for example, in 13th century there wouldnt be any warmbloods and I do believe that the devs knew about it since they added it purely because people complained which is quite sad. Community is obviously the largest factor that makes the game but at the same time its like a child, they should be listened to and heard on what they have to say, and- sometimes they do have good ideas! But in the end its the parents (devs) job to dictate what is an actual good idea and what is just lack of knowledge

If they want to introduce other horse breeds I think there's plenty of ways to do that while keeping it historically accurate... The Arabian horse would be obvious as another ancient breed. If you look at paintings from Ancient Egypt or Greece the chariot horses are very obviously Arabian-type with dished faces and high set tails. Another breed I would add would be the Ferghana or Turkish horse. The Ferghana was the preferred war horse of Han dynasty China and the Turkish horse helped found the Thoroughbred breed which played a huge role in creating modern warmblood breeds, so if they want to add a historically accurate "warmblood"... I was going to say I don't blame the game developers for not knowing niche ancient and medieval horse history but then again they are making a medieval horse game... I think the Mongolian horses deserve the main role but having other breeds could add to the feel of a vast empire with different cultures. The game could have the other breeds attainable at different places along your route, again adding to this feel

Cozy adventure game definitely feels more appropriate if there's no combat. I would have loved combat with wildlife. Fending off predators or hunting for food and other resources. Having combat with wildlife would also fix the looming bordem problem. Cozy games don't need to lack adrenaline entierly! Stardew valley is absolutely a cozy game that occasionally has your heart racing, or get you screaming in frustration! They key is making the less "cozy" encounters low stakes. So in stardew, you loose a fight to monsters in the mines, you don't die, just loose some loot, maybe pay a bill, then go about the next day with no further consequences. Horse breeds... I mean... It's in Mongolia! Of course they should focus on Mongolian horses of which there are many many variations. I personally adore the stockier breeds, both asthetically and as a rider. My most comfortable rides have been on drum horses and cob crosses. Stocky horses are definitely better equipped for long distance riding over unreliable and diverse terrain. They're also just... More comfortable. If they make the game mod friendly, then modders can add those incorrect horse breeds 😂. I adore the drum horse, it's my favorite breed and far "fancier" than Mongolian horses. But that doesn't mean I can't adore and appreciate the rugged beauty of Mongolian horses So as someone with red hair who has done research on red hair... Red hair can and does pop up literally everywhere in every culture across the globe. It's a mutation on the MC1R Gene and it's first occurances appear to have been in central Asia. Considering where Mongolia is located, red hair very well could have cropped up there long before the countries we associate it with today. As for the rest, I don't understand setting a game in a real world setting and then completely ignoring everything except the asthetics. Just set it in a fantasy realm if you're going to ignore everything that makes real world cultures what they are. As for the controversy... Meh. Bigots being bigoted don't deserve polite responses. Ever. They deserve to be mocked and ostracized since they are out to actively harm people simply living their own authentic lives.

His favorite song of his was "Edijn Duun -Okna Tsahan Zam" i actually like that one even I'm not a big fan of that style of singing. I remember him visiting the Netherlands with him in his cultural outfit and traditional long braided hair😂 the day he was there he sang for us on his small guitar, it was so sweet. Me and my grandpa were best friends and we shared a special connection like i had with no one else. He is no longer with us but because he was so familiar with the Mongolian culture i just have to have this game. I love the Mongolian horses, they look just like how I remember them too. Such a gorgeous realistic design. Finally a game who dares to be different! This is what I've been waiting for and the culture makes it absolutely perfect and so nostalgic! Unfortunately people always ruin it for others. I do wish it stayed at the Mongolian horses. 8:53 I think the terrain preference will be a fantastic idea if executed properly. It's like choosing which cities/roads/highways/turnpikes/back roads to venture across with your car when getting somewhere. It's all even road (most of the time) and each road will get you to where you need to go, but the efficiency of each route will determine in the end which one you drive across. Scenario 1: You are going on an hour long trip. The parkway/turnpike is your fastest option, HOWEVER, it is raining outside and the parkway/turnpike makes you go at high speeds making it a lot more unsafe and less reliable than say taking the route through town. While it is slower, it would definitely be safer, but you know you are going to be late if you don't take the parkway. Choose at your own risk. Scenario 2: Or lets say there are delays on the parkway due to a sudden accident making it filled with traffic, then you definitely want to consider going through town since at this time of day its mostly dead and all the commuters made the mistake of taking the parkway so you have the town route all to yourself. Scenario 3: The backroads have no lights, not a lot of stop signs and not many people except the locals really know about them so you could get there still faster than the town route and maybe not be late. The only problem being backroads tend to have pot holes, cracks, divets, etc, adding wear and tear to your car / possibly getting a flat. Again, if they implement this correctly, I would love this mechanic. I like when games give me a legitimate reason to change my weapons, mount and gear. If I use the same thing all the time it gets boring, but if it all functions the same or the gear I have is the best of the best with everything else being inferior then what's stopping me from using the same thing every time? This will give me an actual reason to breed horses or buy different breeds when this game comes out and I look forward to that aspect.

I might have misunderstood the video, but it feels like you’re suggesting the problem on Twitter is how Alice Ruppert responded to this person, who clearly has a conservative and narrow-minded way of thinking. Putting politics aside and just looking at the message, it’s the other person, not Alice, who came in with a comment clearly meant to attack her just for stating how she likes to be addressed (with her pronouns). I get this is a business, but are we really going to let people throw harmful comments around without setting any boundaries? I don’t think Alice was disrespectful at all, nor do I think she "couldn’t handle the situation". Sure, her reply was quite blunt, but the question wasn’t exactly polite either, and honestly, ethical values should always come before business. I feel It’s better for our community not to sink to the levels AAA games like GTA have to, just to appeal to these types of people. There’s a difference between trying to keep customers happy and trying to please people who clearly don’t respect others. Honestly, even if the game did have pronouns-anachronistic or not-what harm would it cause? These are the same people who don’t have a problem with women’s armour in games like Baldur’s Gate being ridiculously sexualised. That said, I’m not saying horse games should only appeal to kids-like Pokémon, which has proven it can not still appeal to people in their 30s-but I also don’t see why we should tolerate people who want to feel superior and tell you how to play, dress, or think. Honestly, I’d rather stick to the games we have now. I don’t go on Twitter (or X, whatever) ranting about how boring I find MOBAs, for example, and I don’t judge the people who play them. I love the realism in RDR and RDR2, and I don’t have a problem with violence or combat. But here’s a secret: you can have an exciting, fun, and realistic action-adventure game without combat. You don’t have to fall into the same tired tropes. In short, I think we’re all grown up enough not to need people telling us how to think or how to see the world, and we shouldn’t be living under the influence of outdated ideologies that just want to condemn anything outside their narrow view.

hi, This is such a wonderful video. I just wanted to add/explore the idea of horses liking or disliking different kinds of terrain. I think it adds a bit of personality to the horses. but if there are roads to everywhere then whats the point of the terrain preference,, well we have to remember that this game is based in like the 1300 so the so called roads might not be too good in quality. but the point i want to get to is that what if the game starts off in the bigger villages with roads and smaller deliveries like letters and packages. and once you prove yourself good at the job you get the more difficult jobs where you have to deliver for example food and building material out to small villages out in the middle of nowhere with no roads to them.. there is where i see the terrain preferences and abilites play a massive role. for example, you get a mission to deliver a larger sum of food to a starving village out in the dessert, then you need a fast horse that prefer the dessert terrain. or you need to deliver building material for a village in the swamp. then you need a strong horse with good balance that can get through the mud and waters. but i really wish there was combat in this game, like wild animals attacking you or bandits trying to steal your goods. but maybe thats just me. and these are just my thought and im sorry for the long essay, have a great day :)

Also, the whole pronoun thing is such a non-issue. Just typical cringe tier bigot basement dwellers trolling. I love “boring” games (I love Horse Isle 3, for example) so I think this game will be great for me, if only the mechanics work well and the breeding isn’t difficult lol (I want to edit to clarify: when I said “non-issue” I specifically meant that I don’t think having pronouns in the game will effect the sales. I think horse people who are interested will purchase it regardless, and the people negging the devs about “wokeness” aren’t people who would’ve purchased anyway. Obviously, bigots being assholes IS an issue.)

I get excited for any horse game that is not the normal "do dressage and save the ranch" gameplay, and I think if they get this game right, it might be one of the best horse games around. Also, Mongolian horses are adorable and I love them, and I fully plan to ignore the warmbloods and just have my little chonky Mongolian horses
@bonehead26412 ай бұрын
I have hope. I always have hope till its shat on. I like the idea of having to plan out routes while being a mail person but if the only thing that we have to worry about is weather and terrain... What about wild animals that have gotten desperate or making sure you have enough supplies for your horse so they aren't thirsty or hungry. This game does not need to be cozy. It probably shouldn't in all honesty, shake it up add risks. We love our horses and want to make sure they make it so its all on you if they don't. I was always worried for my horse in red dead 2. I dont like that thwy added the thoroughbreds, i also blame the silly people complaining about the Mongolian horses being different. Breeding sounds alright, training seems okay, i hope they acoid the mini game bullshit. I would like the historical accuracy to be more close to accurate then not, it could be delightful.
@YTRattle2 ай бұрын
I have no idea why they are going for the cozy idea. It's completely against the entire concept for what the game should and could be. Which is just damned sad. Maybe it's a good game, but it still can just as well be a wasted opportunity.

I'm hoping to get this game (depending on how it is when it comes out) and I'm making myself a promise right now to use Mongolian horses over warmbloods. They have such a charm about them (irl and in game) and deserve some spotlight! I'm thinking (hoping) that the devs are holding some of their cards close to their chest in terms of story and setting. I'm willing to wait and see! As for the drama...nah I think that was a fine response. Pronouns are such an innocuous part of life and anyone who makes a point of them being 'problematic' is the actual problem. I can almost guarantee that most of the people who complained about that are people who aren't even interested in the game/genre in the first place and are just looking for a fight.

@peachyjeon30772 ай бұрын
@@YTRattle Ostwind (Windstorm) was originally a german book series, which was turned into movies and then games later on. I personally never played the games nor read the books but watched the movies. I’m pretty sure in the movies they explain how the kind of horsemanship the main character learns comes from centuries ago in Mongolia and that also has to do with her „mentor“ carving wood statues which you can find as collectibles in the first game. (I don’t know if they explained this in the game). This is also probably the reason for the main character in this game having red hair since this ties her with the main character from Windstorm. Therefor I understood this game as some kind of prequel which plays in the past.

Im sorry for commenting so much, but another thing I’ve picked up on is how some think it wouldn’t be cozy if we have to do things fast, and TECHNICALLY that can be true, however in the cozy gaming community we always say that a game is cozy if it makes you feel cozy! For me RDR2 is cozy, for some it’s games like Fortnite. I think this game could definitely be considered a cozy game, it just depends on the person playing it 😊
@MushPuppy-it2hj2 ай бұрын
In the study I was able to find, 5,440 attacks by large carnivores were recorded in the world between 1950 and 2019. That maths out to about 79 attacks a year. Globally. Commenters, please keep that in mind before you insist a game set out in the wild Needs combat. I'm desperate for a big, open world game where weather is a bigger concern than rabidly suicidal wolves.
@YTRattle2 ай бұрын
LOL! That's damn fair! I don't mind for no combat, I just really want to know what the game is going to be: action-adventure or cozy? Also, I would add that 1950-2019 is a very 'modern' setting, in that a lot of people are living in cities, towns, etc. So, their chances of even meeting a wild wolf is much smaller than a person who lived in 13th century Mongolia XD

I just want a game similar to RDO. I need something that’s open world but an MMO or where you can have a private server or lobby where my partner and I can play together. Sadly RDO is unplayable now on pc due to modders and the hundreds of bugs due to Rockstar abandoning the game. I actually finally uninstalled the game yesterday and it makes me so sad. This game looks good graphics wise, but how will the story or game play be? I’m so disappointed in horse games recently and would like a good immersive multiplayer game.

I'm super excited about this game because I like having a reason to ride my horse. You'd think I'd like doing competitions and things but I've actually always gotten way more fulfillment our of needing my horse for things, or being able to keep the same horse and put time and effort into improving it rather than throwing it out the moment a better one comes along: Ranch of Rivershine let me keep my old horses if I was willing to put the effort into making them just as good as my newer ones and it made itself the first time in a great many games where I didn't feel like I was just wasting my time on anything less than the best. It was the first game in forever that didn't make my prettiest horse, my worst horse. Ghost of Tsushima is a great example. I needed Kage, honest to gods that horse was amazing, they felt like a companion, they were a flawless part of the game for me and they held value in the time you spent with that particular horse. I'm really excited about them keeping that aspect in Ghost of Yotei. Red Dead Redemption 2: You needed your horse and if you didn't kill them every 3 strides by not letting them AI path around a tree you could easily keep the same horse the whole game and they were your buddy, you did everything with them. Went everywhere on their back. Sometimes you even relied on them to tell you when something was wrong. If my horse twitched, I twitched. Shadow of the Colossus: Agro. Just. Agro. R.I.P. buddy. Black Desert: You get a good horse. You ride it. That's your horse and you hang onto it for everything. You train it, spend a lot of time relying on it, take care of it by keeping it alive. There are games out there that have horses in them, but they don't generate the same value. I remember a magazine complaining about Epona in Twilight Princess having all the personality of a parked Ferrari and I've never forgotten the quote because that's all mounts are in most games. Glorified cars you park and travel on. Then you get games where they come when you call, flying mounts and dismounts, versatility, usefulness, personality and something you put effort and training into. I hate, hate, hate how ephemeral horse games make your mounts. SSO is one of the few that don't completely invalidate your previous choices with Stats and Breeding. I can slap a saddle on my favorite old horse and have just as much a shot at new content as I did buying the new breed that week. TL;DR I'm excited about a game with no combat where my horse matters and I hope they don't go the rout of making us chase the next finest horse and take the approach RoR did by allowing us to better our old ones as much as we can if we really want to keep them.

Like the freaking world doesn't revolve around Warmbloods, etc. I was and still am super excited about having a game with horses that are NOT the same usual stuff we see in every freaking game. And i really like how "chonky" the in-game ones were. They looked like a horse that could actually traverse the landscape. I'm really looking forward to playing around with them once the game's out. Others can keep their damn prancing ponies.

I about lost it when people were complaining about the horse models. It makes me so angry! The era this is set in was a huge advancement for equitation and equestrians need to learn the importance of the Mongolian people, horses, and technical advancements. I was so excited for this game when I first heard about it because this has so much potential. I am also annoyed that everything has to be open world, cozy, farming game with action and adventure. A lot of companies cannot do that. The Elder Scrolls succeeded because of the amount of work they put into it. That's why they take forever to be released.

Potential was really what put me off Rivershine enough not to be able to invest much energy into it, so I'm admittedly a bit sad to see it come back. I know it's not exactly realistic, but I wish games that implemented that sort of thing had an 'un-training' feature that could be used to redeem potential that was spent suddenly on something that won't be used much again. Otherwise it really just makes me want to get rid of the "ruined" horse out of sheer disappointment that it will never improve in what I got it to actually do. If there's at least some illusion of progress once technical stat caps are reached through, say, a rusting system that allows for some exchange it would make me more able to become more attached to a particular horse or herd.

22:40 He passed in 1227... I was born 12/27 ... No wonder I seek violence nowadays... Lol, jk, anyway, I am really looking forward to this game despite the drama (because what horse game doesn't have drama these days). Some things I'd like to add (sorry if it's long. I love you content btw)): - Of course, the horses look sort of "ugly" because this was way in the past before horses were bred to fit aesthetics. That's common sense, technically... - Though it would be nice to have a horse game without violence, I'd still like there to be a "feeling of danger". The game essentially has us out in the wild, so of course, wild animals can pose a threat to us as well as robbers. - Um, yeah, the breeding system better not have a dlc for foals, like, why was that even a thing in the first place? Oh right, money. - Like you said, Genghis Khan was out and about before the time of the game (If the game is believed to be around that time or just an alternate universe fanfic?), so there still should be some sort of ruler or army we should be aware of as we play, even if they don't plan to add violence in the game. Plus, you said there was possible diseases going about around that time, too. It'll give us more reason to plan our routes properly to avoid soldiers, towns full of sickness, other trade routes from other npcs/players, etc. It's ok to not be totally historically accurate (even though, with this type of game strictly speaking of Mongolia, there should be), but I still would like a bit of "action" to make the game not too "cozy". - The drama ... is sort of just an eyeroll. The response from twitter users was a bit much. Her comment seemed more like a joke, but it's Twitter. They take everything either too far and too seriously, or not far/seriously enough. At the end of the day, if this is an action adventure, put the action in it. Otherwise, this is just a game of USPS on horses.
@YTRattle2 ай бұрын
"If this is an action-adventure, the action in" damn straight! I do hope they add some enemies or proper challenges into the game. A cozy game is a good idea, but it seems disjointed from what a courier rider is supposed to be: fast, brave, and thinking on their feet. But it's still early days, it might surprise us!

I just love the irony of people being okay with Warmbloods, but complaining that "the clothing isn't from the right era" and "historically accurate enough" at the same time. lol. You know, how about: just shut up and let the devs do their thing. 😆 I for one am really happy about the Mongolian horses (and not fussed with creative license on the character). As an Icelandic horse fan IRL I'm here for the stocky pony-types anyway, but also: finally something different from the always same-y breeds we usually get in games. Hallelujah! 🎉

I love that they are taking inspiration from ROR and RDR, I'm just hoping they will be able to implement the features they plan right as well as avoid any more drama until release. What I'm worried about is the price, Emerald Ranch was super expensive for the state the game was released in, I'm just hoping this game won't be the same and the developers take their time working out any issues before release.

tbh, the game looks cute. Maybe not a perfect game, but not everybody like the same things, and you can appreciate a culture and not be made if a GAME doesn't fit it 100%, they still need to sell their game to the most. Horses are rather cute, a little weirdly shaped but clearly still well done and realistic. I just hope it's not as boring as windstorm (it was really repetitive, with a lot of "emptiness" between point A to point B to up the life of the game). Sur they should have say "inspired from", instead of "historically accurate", would have been more smart, I do agree with that. BUT. I can't help it. I do respect Mongolian people, their culture(s), their history, everything is just incredible, but seeing their wonderful little horse the mouth destroyed by them pulling on the reins like if their life depended of it, it hurts me SO BAD... and even more when movies do the same... It's not the point of the video, I know XD but so many pictures of them were used in that video, couldn't help it to just see it XD i'd still play that game if I can, I think. It kind of make me think the long ride you can make with Link in breath of the wild, just running in the wild, enjoying the surrounding.
