@@Lumpio2 it does not take a law degree and professional experience in the 80s to discover art products around your favourite IP though, does it? The Legend of Zelda animated cartoon series is absolutely not obscure to Zelda fans, much less today than in the 80s; thanks to internet, this video alone has thousands of views. In order to find new inspirations, developers and artists often do extensive research in their field. All it takes is a nerd intern that watched KZbin and proposed an idea during a creative meeting. Anyway, it's impossible to be certain about the truth. It would be interesting to see this come up in an interview, although even if the inspiration is true I am not sure they would be able to admit it for legal reasons? Who knows.

Now, the question stands if the BotW devs genuinely looked at this and said “hey, that’d be a good mechanic”, or if it’s just convergent evolution. It’s hard to say, because on both ends, a genuine human being with a soul and a brain and everything came up with it and put it in a video game, and there’s no way a sane person came up with this without assistance, be it divine intervention, alien technology, or crack.

@New Thor Wilhelms Wii Yes and no. Storyboarders do have to fulfill the scriptwriter's outline (although there's usually back-and-forth draft polishing) and animators in turn have to fulfill _that_ outline... but at both of those levels there's usually room for some creative license. In any case, the ultimate answer is likely "Brainstorming cool stunts that could be done with Link's equipment loadout."

@@transqueen False. Breath of The Wild has "Catastrophe" Ganon, the pure, unbridled form of the beast who cast aside any shred of humanity that was left after victory over Link. In Wind Waker, Ganandorf is still just a man, and Ganon is referred to as "Puppet" Ganon, being quite literally a puppet brought about and directly controlled by Ganondorf's sorcery paired with the Triforce of Power. As far as we know, in the adult timeline Ganondorf's body and soul are still trapped within stone that is sealed by the Master Sword plunged into his forehead and resting at the bottom of the ocean.
