Oh man the Judge Judy eye roll when Empress was welcoming Zhen Huan back legitimately made me laugh out loud. This section is my favorite of the series. Zhen Huan is all no nonsense and I LOVE it.

So Xin, the honorary title Xin Guiren has, means happiness or joy... guess that joy or happiness must have been stamped out somewhere; don't know where that happened, could have been under the emperor's time as a prince, her miscarriage at the beginning, during Hua Fei's reign of terror, or the Empress's reign of terror, but it happened. Feels bad for Xin Guiren. I happen to love Zhen Huan's consort attire; the fashionable asymmetry and red lipstick really give off "I'm not a target you can step over"; it also helps I love blue.

The emperor loves new, bright, happy women and then slowly life here stomps it out of them. Instead of thinking about why that is, he then goes out and finds new pretty birds to trap in the cage that is the forbidden city :)

⁠@@dramarecaps4217 which sucks, because xin guiren is one of the two most beautiful women in the harem (the other being duan fei) and though she's not seen often, when we _do_ get to see her, she's polite and sometimes even adorably sassy. had it not been made obvious that xin guiren was already part of the harem (what with the mention of her miscarriage in the first or second episode), i would have assumed she was one of the new concubines. hell, sun li is only a few months younger than xin guiren's actress!

Ok irl she was 32 but how is she 32 in the show if she started as a 17 year old and was exiled as a 21 year old (in the show) if 3 years of exile have passed she should be 24 this is where the show really confuses me like in episode 74 or 75 she said she was 37 but according to the show she should be 27/28

You're totally right. Before she came back to the palace the emperor gave her a new identity. Part of that new identity was changing her age, adding 10 years so she could be seen as 4th Prince's mother. Check out the 54-55 video, around 4 minutes in

In episode 55, The Emperor changes her identity (and age) in order to get her back into the palace. She is actually 22, but with her new identity (+10 years) she's "officially" 32.

i actually really empathize with huanbi. her own life story is really unfortunate and pitiful. had i been in her shoes, i might have stayed more inconspicuous about my feelings but i'd still feel the same as her. zhen yuandao made the choice to have an affair with another woman - someone who he wanted to make a concubine but couldn't because this woman's _father_ was a convict. so he takes huanbi and makes her a maid instead of at least a foster child. imagine your dad saying to you "don't tell anyone i'm your dad. now get down on the ground and polish my shoes lol your mom is dead". despite being a legitimate member of _zhen's_ family, huanbi won't be able to be buried in their family tomb. she even enters the palace with zhen huan even though she's technically not allowed in (because of all that "sins of thy father" bs) and could get into some serious trouble if word got out. was huanbi annoying? sure, but she didn't have a black heart. she was roped in and taken advantage of by the _actual_ black-hearted cao guiren because she wanted to pay respects to her mom, which she could only do by burning paper money. later, when she's out of cao guiren's clutches, she really does try to improve, but she's still young and immature and has a long way to go. her loyalty (finally!) really shone when she was holding liuzhu in her arms trying to keep her head fully attached to her neck without a moment's thought despite her anguished sobs. i can't imagine being that tough. she still freely chose to stay by zhen huan's side and protect her with all she had when ZH asked to be expelled to a nunnery in the dead of winter, and _especially_ when ZH got sick. also, if we get to hate an lingrong, huanbi deserves the right to be able to, also. maybe she just saw right through her from the very beginning. 🤣

Damn. This comment is hands down the one that's got me closest to hopping aboard the Huanbi train. I do realize I'm not being 100% rational or objective when it comes to analyzing HuanBi, sometimes you just don't like people ya know? All I know is when I'm watching, her actions, expressions, and the things she says all just rub me the wrong way. I think I go into a bit more detail later when she marries... But you're so right, it's a really shitty situation she's in and in her shoes I can't say I would have acted much better.
