This bike is truly gorgeous! I raced a 580 back in the late 70's. Mine was, I think a very early model but I have no pictures and can't remember the year. It was a bit rough when I swapped my twin shock KX125 for it. My dad and I rebuilt the top end in the kitchen and fitted electronic ignition. I forget how tolerant my parents were. The bike was far too big for a 14 year old and I swapped it for an ex works FB AJS 360. Happy AMCA anything goes racing ❤ Mine looked more like the alloy tank version behind this bike.

A few years ago I restored a 73 Bultaco MX250 And I sold it about 6 months later and I wished I hadn’t. I really liked the right hand shift after a while of racing it. I had all kinds of problems with the fiberglass tank and finally bought the aftermarket plastic one. That bike was very powerful and really fun.

Watched as Scotlands Jim Aird powered this bike in a legendary duel with Australian Graeme Smythe at the King of the Cross in Western Australia in about 1976 or 1977. Best motocross race I ever witnessed. Jim lost by a whisker after 45 minutes of lead swapping action.

Great videos Chris. Have you a video of the 1976 beta cross 250? Thank you.

Paul Thomas Sorry Paul that’s one of the bikes I haven’t come across as yet and they are quite rare bikes now that you mention it, although as soon as I do get the chance to film one it will be posted. And thanks again for watching my content.

His nickname wasn't Yobbo was it? I remember Yobbo and his brother and I idolised them which is why I wangled myself a CCM 580. I raced with the North Staffs Motocross Club.

CCM are nearly non existent in the US. I don't know how someone can build such a beautiful bike and not ride it.

64maxpower Ian doesn’t need to ride it he has several other CCM’s that he does ride regularly, he also has an original “Clews Stroka” which as you know were the first bikes that Alan Clews built before he ever registered the name Clews Competition Machines in 1972 and its the last of six bikes ever built by CCM.
