You listen to all the Forest player from that time. Moose, Ando, Lewis, Lee Camp, Earnie, Dex, Wes, Kelv, Chrissy Cohen, Radi, Gunter, all of them, rhey have nothing but the highest praise for that man and his ability. In near two decades of failure those two Billy spells were the thing that kept the memory of what good times felt like going.

@@PazLeBon From my seat in the Trent End yesterday we applauded Tony Woodcock at half time as Lewis McGugan escorted him as guest of honour in front of us. No-one in there has less affection for the latter just because the former achieved greater things, and no-one, not any of our world class stars of the past, hit a better goal than that Lewis free kick against Ipswich. Let's not be disrespectful for those that gave their all for the Garibaldi, bringing great joy at the time, just because others had slightly more to give in their time.

Mental in my opinion. Rowett for example has 1 playoff season in 6 attempts,, Davies has never failed to make the playoffs in 5 full seasons. It's bonkers he's been out the game without getting another chance. You'd think a Bristol City or Preston would have given him a crack.

I liked Billy at Forest, the thing is that it was a match made in heaven in many way, a club that was starved of success and a personality that would embrace the City Ground fans. He wasn’t that far away from getting Forest promoted, I think the problem emerged when he attempted to mould himself into a Brian Clough type figure… however he wasn’t told by Forest do it your way.. he proceeded to a media blackout and alienated a few influential people. Good luck Billy! Always welcome in Nottingham. Top man

I loved Billy at Forest and i never forgave the board for sacking him. I was over the moon when he was re hired by Fawaz but gutted when he sacked him. My only issue with Billy was his bizarre relationship with the media. We as fans never got any news because Billy wouldnt sanction any interviews with certain Journalists . Like BBC Nottingham or Nottingham Post. Id love to see him back as a manger. Ask any former Forest player , they all loved him. He is a fantastic coach and i have no doubt he will succeed wherever he goes , given the chance.

Forest fan. I do not say this lightly - Billy is a magnificent, *magnificent* manager, I would take him back tomorrow. The best we've had since Frank Clark, he made taking my seat in the Trent End a consistent pleasure both spells. The media may not like him, but man alive the connection he has with fans and players is unbreakable. I loved Nigel Doughty for what he did for Forest, but it was such a huge mistake to sack him, it set us back years. We didn't recover until Billy himself returned, and the moron Fawaz sacked him after his first bad, injury plagued, run. Insanity, and we only got over that 8 years later when Cooper arrived. Thank you for everything Billy, just thank you. I wish you and yours all the very best. ❤ PS, if you're a Rangers fan, scream and shout at your board until they give Billy the job. I *guarantee* you'll be the top dogs in Scotland again. Guarantee. Not even close.

He was / is an unstable character who under FAWAZ was given the keys to the club and ran it into the ground. Banning sections of the press, bizarre post match conferences before the game, demanding the world's best players and calling out the chairman in the press.....he demonstrated exactly why other chairmen including Doughty had to constantly keep him on a leash. Him not getting a job after Forest is nothing to do with Doughty or even Fawaz.

@falksi3182 He was a great manager. But his relations with pretty much every club he worked at ended the same every time. And that's going all the way back to his time at Preston. If a conformist is someone who makes judgments based on the ballance of probability, and evidence......then a conformist I am! Patterns......it happened wherever he went. He wasnt unlucky or targeted.

People look at that Derby exit and are reluctant I guess. The thing is that squad of ours (Derby) was not Premier League standard far from it,, how he got that squad up is a generational miracle,, it was absolutely average stinking even at Champ level,, Craig Fagan, Steve Howard, Arturo Lupoli, Jon Stead and Craig Fagan were our forwards... I mean that's lower half Championship standard back then.

Ive never understood why he's never been given another chance in the Championship,, two playoff seasons 1 final with Preston, playoff promotion with us (Derby), 2 playoff seasons with Forest. He's had 6 full seasons at this level and never failed to make the playoffs with three different clubs. When you see some useless managers getting chance after chance (Rooney bring one) and Davies with his record isn't given another is absolutely ridiculous in my opinion.

Gutted when he was sacked first time (wrongfully) but Fawaz was right to sack Billy Mk2. The performance at Derby (5-0) by Billy was a disgrace and petulant. I am sure he recognises that he was partly to blame for his own downfall and i think other clubs got wind of his behaviour so he never worked again. I'm sure if a L2 club took a chance on him tit would work though.
