1:18:05 I was as deep in addiction as one can be, got sober but couldn't stay sober. Tried 12 step programs and everything but the only thing that actually kept me sober was going back to my childhood favorite thing to do aka bass fishing. So Gary is certainly not wrong. It saved my freedom, possibly my life.

I will reccommend Dobyns rod to everyone I know. I only have one now a Fury 733c and really like it a lot and am looking forward to getting more time with it.

@@abgr5747 I understand that they are not made in the US , however , they are designed in the US , quality controlled by Gary Dobyns and supported by the organization he has built. As far as I can tell from this video and the research I have done he is passionate about his rods and their reputation, he has certainly built a following with consistent quality matched to the specific technique they are intended for. I have researched some and find 3 US blank makers (who also make rods) none of them appear to be as focused as Dobyns is on their product, may be excellent rods, but I dont find the assortment or the following that Dobyns has. Listening to this video I am convinced that Dobyns is focused on producing the best rod they can at the various price ranges with the very best materials they can procure. Using the rod I have also tells me this, for my style of fishing and in my price range, I will spend a few extra bucks and get a Dobyns unless their quality changes, and from what I can tell so far, that isnt likely to happen. This is only my opinion and what I have found from using the rods. Tight Lines !

Hellabass, great interview. The repetitive thing I heard that is very important to Gary is rod balance, however, that balance is affected by the reel mounted to the rod. Where is Gary's ideal balance point for the rod and reel combo and how should we fine-tune it?

I'm a avg height guy at 5'8" and I like a longer rod with a shorter handle. My ideal length is around 7'3-7''6" and 8ft swimbait rods. Feels awkward to me to fish anything under 7. But I throw poppers on a 6'9" and jerkabits on a 6'10". Even from the bank it works.
