@@HellaBass I have a few but always wanted a 704c for pitching a jig around stuff up close. I'm in Pa so trees, few docks, weeds, rock piles..normal stuff with smaller fish then you are use too I'm sure. 1-4lbers mostly.

Agreed, dock fishing can be a great way to bust a good bag. I often mix in my DX745c for dock fishing as well. Also tempted to try the xtasy 725c

@@HellaBass it always amazed me that people are scared to skip way back into docks or are scared to back lash so they simply cast to the front and wonder why the don’t catch fish

Hello OK I know this is not a dobyns video but I have a question about dobyns I Bought a 7’3 medium heavy Dobyns Sierra series Rod from tw but it feels more like a medium than a medium heavy how do I know what to buy next to get the right rod the numbers on it say sa733c
@HellaBass2 жыл бұрын
rod powers are pretty subjective and not standardized across manufacturers, most say Dobyns run a tad light compared to many others. I like the SA733c as a light texas rig or moving bait rod. What do you want the rod to do?

Got a 20 year old Berkley Series One rod 6'8" pistol grip with a 3" knob coming out the back of the handle. Never found a good use for it but it now becomes my dock rod. The Booyah Swim jig that I burn, will skip real well with this setup. Always learning, not always catching.
@HellaBass3 жыл бұрын
Shorter rods do make it a bit easier to be accurate around shallow cover. Learning is half the fun

Try using hi-vis braid and if you want to go straight braid take a sharpie in dark green or black and just color the braid as far up as you need. Get the best of both worlds, no stretch and easier to see strikes.

Good idea

I was thinking of getting a Dobyns DX 704 for skipping 1/2 oz jigs pluss a trailer do you recommend going 705 instead?
@HellaBass2 жыл бұрын
I definitely prefer the 705 for docks, started with a 704 & bumped up to 705 years ago. A bit personal preference, I use straight 20-22lb fluoro on docks, if you are a braid guy, then maybe 704 would be good.
@Texasbroski5122 жыл бұрын
@@HellaBass yes definitely braid I use 40lb suffix and love how good it feels to set the hook on a good sized bass like 5ish pounds

Thanks for the great tips Rich. I couldn't agree more about practicing more with your baitcasters by skipping under targets in the iff season. I actually had a friend of mine give me two of his baitcasters because he couldn't stop backlashing. I tried to show him how to prevent this from happening as often but he just said he's done with baitcasters...what a shame.

@@HellaBass I like that that dobyns community is so diverse. I liked that the 684 loads up with a half oz jig . Not sure if they make a 685 but I'm 5ft6 I can only imagine your 6ft or taller.
