Depending on your definition of metal... "Van Halen" is untouchable. But for me, real metal isn't always as melodic so "The Number of the Beast" gets my blood pumping and brings out the 14 year old in me.

Priest is one of my favorite bands of all time. British Steel opened up the door to heavy metal for me and to think they’re still rocking is amazing. I was a high school kid in Las Vegas working at a big golf and tennis store that a lot of tourists visited. One day near closing my manager runs up to me and says some weirdos just walked in - keep an eye on them. Turns out it was my metal idols Rob, KK and Glenn. They were playing the next night at the Aladdin Theater. I got to spend a couple hours with them while they tried out a bunch of golf clubs and bought a ton of stuff. So cool!

Love Judas Priest! My good friend and I used to sing “washing the dog washing the dog” to the tune of “breaking the law, breaking the law”. And we would crack up. We loved them! Played them all the time when we were cruising around. And “living after midnight” was a great song to sing to. “Im gone, then I’m gone”. What fun those times were. And “you got another thing coming”. With that head that explodes. Awesome! Good times, good times. Enjoyed this one Professor! Rob’s the man! ❤️💜💚

I've never been a huge Judas Priest fan, but I have mad respect for them. When I was in high school, I actually did a research project on censorship in music. It was the height of the Satanic Panic in the 90's, here I was living in a rural Georgia town. I wore a leather biker jacket and ripped jeans, people asked me if I rode a Harley to school and thought they were so damn clever. In any case, I played a video from the PBS series called POV which covered the Vance versus Judas Priest case where they were sued for backwards masking and accused of inciting a teenager to commit suicide. Rob Halford destroyed them on the witness stand. It was glorious. Then I gave my oral report on the long history of music censorship and the Satanic Panic surrounding Heavy Metal and Glam Rock music specifically. I think it only cemented the perception that I was a Godless Heathen to be feared and avoided!

My Judas Priest memory...I was in 8th grade, on the bus for a class field trip. One of my classmates was listening to his walkman, and someone hollered at him "What are you listening to?" and he hollered back "Judas Priest". (the bus was pretty loud) Well, my teacher immediately turned around and yelled at him to watch his mouth or he would get written up. We were all very confused, didn't know that Judas Priest was an old swear euphemism, we only knew it as the name of the band haha. Every once in a while you might hear someone in an older movie saying "Oh Judas Priest!" and it makes me think of that day on the bus and the poor kid who didn't know he was swearing.

He came down the next morning bleary eyed from a lack of sleep, stared down Glenn and said "I've got just the title for that riff, 'Living After Midnight'.". @@garrettlowell7637 not entirely. Early country and rock ‘n’ roll were very simple in writing and structure. As music and rock ‘n’ roll went through the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, Music became much more sophisticated and talent driven in both writing and performing. In the last 15 years all of that has regressed significantly. Today’s music is much less complicated and requires far less musical skill and talent than music of the 40 years prior. “Metal Gods” was the first song that I ever heard off that album. It was actually my older brother’s album, and I heard it in passing. I’d loved metal and hard rock since I was about 8 years old, and an older cousin had given me a scratchy copy of Black Sabbath’s “Master of Reality”. After that, I was a KISS fan, from “Rock and Roll Over” through “Dynasty”. But, “British Steel” turned me into a bonanza fide Metalhead. That led me to Iron Maiden, Ozzy’s solo work, Saxon, Queensryche, and on and on and on. Judas Priest was the catalyst (cataclysm) for it all.

Oh the memories of our "band with no name" was based on Judas Priest, for sure! Our group of mis-fit outcast teenage boys was so influenced by this whole genre of rock and roll. We did our best to imitate that style. Sam had lead vocal, Shawn "Sticks" drums Ev and Ace would tear up the guitar parts. Problem was we didn't have a bass player. I was the only one with a hot-rod car that we would cruise around town in. It had a big trunk where we hauled the guitars and amps in, so they figured I should get a bass and be part of the band! Why not? Besides the fact I didn't know how to read sheet music or play any instruments, why not? So I went down to the Star Pawn Shop and found a nameless bass and matching amp for $100. Came with extra strings and all! We had the image, the attitude, and the groupie girls following us around! All based on the Judas Priest inspiration! Never went anywhere, but man we had fun with it! Thanks for the video! It's 3 chords and the truth from the Professor of Rock!

Priest introduced me to hard rock/metal 35 years ago. Since then I’ve listened to thousands of metal songs and singers and have been to many metal concerts. Rob still holds up as the best I’ve seen and heard live and my fav of all time!

I love trying to guess the artist by the thumbnail, and the song by the header. Great marketing tool. Halford; Most likely, Priest; No guess at the song.

Great job. I remember walking to work while in high school, and most tapes I'd want to fast forward to a specific song. Not so with 'British Steel'. I can still recall walking next to that ditch, and stepping into it when a delivery truck would pass because the shoulder just wasn't that wide. One of the most memorable concerts I've been to was Priest's Fuel for Life tour in support of Turbo at the Tacoma Dome. There was an old couple, as in late 60's, dressed in leather and studs, banging their heads. One of the funniest moments at a concert was for Priest's Painkiller tour. I saw them at the Anchorage Convention Center, and just wallowed in its intimacy. The ceiling wasn't even 40 feet high, and the fence was less than four feet from the front of the stage. The guy next to me kept calling for KK's attention. The only problem was that it was Glenn Tipton. Glenn looked at him confused. I said something about him being so happy that he was confused, "Glenn". He appreciated that I knew who he was, and played several solos to my friends and I. The look on Glenn Tipton's face still makes me laugh.

Early Judas Priest albums were, in my opinion, some of their best work, “Rocka Rola”, for instance, had some particularly great material that the formula of which would carry over into following albums, these songs are essentially the seeds of the heavy metal that would follow; One for the Road, Never Satisfied, Run of the Mill, Dying to Meet You. They would follow this album with “Sad Wings of Destiny”, which was an explosive album when we first heard it, and it had so much great material on it, and it opened with; Victom of Changes, The Ripper, and Dreamer Deceiver, Deceiver, which really sets the listener up for the B side, they then open with Prelude which gradually builds from an almost regal promenade and then goes into an almost octave burial and straight into Tyrant, Genocide, and then into an almost lounge act and milder number with Epitaph, which then leads into the finale, Island of Domination, a very powerful album, and a great set up for the next album “Sin After Sin”, followed by the epic “Stained Class”, which was followed by “Killing Machine” but was released in the United States as “Hell Bent for Leather”, then the live album “Unleashed in the East”, and then “British Steel”. And although the “Green Manalishi” had already gotten some airtime before the release of “British Steel”, they did not really get much airplay until it’s debut, however, because of the Green Manalishi being played on the radio, we were then introduced to Judas Priest, and many of my friends and I began to gather up all of their earliest albums, and we would gather around and listen to those albums in their entirety. By that time in our lives, many of us held the opinion that the music played on the radio was often not the best work that was on an album, which was really true for many of the best bands, and Judas Priest was no exception, however, commercial radio was very reluctant to play songs that were longer than 3 minutes for a very long time, until the Beatles came along, and then they were more willing to, depending upon the popularity of the band and the requests from listeners, otherwise, we likely would have been listening to Judas Priest much earlier, and their careers would have taken off much sooner. I like all of their earliest albums the best, when they seem to have more creative freedom, in my opinion, I think record companies tend to ruin many bands once they have gotten a hit single, but allow them to freely express themselves prior to the single hits, then, the band is pressured to create more songs like the hit, like using a cookie cutter, it just doesn’t work well with music, because often what makes a song a hit, is that it is unique and different from other songs, because “variety is the spice of life”. Although they were able to produce more great albums to follow, none of them are of the same caliber as the earlier albums that I have listed above. And although they are able to conceive of other concept albums, they are all much more formulaic than the earlier ones, and have much less impact on the listener, because they lack the dynamics that the earlier albums use to great success. Thank you for posting these videos! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨🙏🏻

I met Rob Halford when he came to Chicago years ago. He was standing in a restricted area by a fence, no one noticed him ( he was wearing tube socks up to his knees, Adidas sneakers, short shorts that were straight out of the 70's and a pair of sunglasses), so we walked over and said hi, he was just a really nice person. As we stood there, others had him sign stuff and take pictures, I didn't get anything, but an honor of meeting a performer who loved his fans, that was enough for me, he is one person I would love to meet again.

Breakin The Law was so iconic. It was, if I can draw the comparison, JP’s MAD MAX. It always reminds me of Toe Cutter and his Bikie gang causing mayhem for mayhems sake. In some ways I draw a direct line to The Sentinel which is the song that brought me into the fold. Sentinel is the ROAD WARRIOR. It is so dystopian in its imagery that there is no distance between the two.
