I would take home the ‘65. If your going to get one...get the one that Shelby truly designed. I think they started to drift further away every year after for creature comforts.

My uncle bought a 1965 Shelby GT350 that had been traded into Grady Whitlock Ford, in Beckley, West Virginia. Owner wanted a new '67 GT500. The '65 had an Isky cam set, a Joe Mondello port and polish, with the Shelby American tri Y headers in the trunk. The engine wore Jardine headers, open exhaust, Ansen blow proof bell housing, and a completely balanced lower end. I don't want to quote this part .. .. but I'm pretty sure that Holman & Moody built that 289 for the previous owner.. Had the Shelby slapper bars, to the torque boxes, a driveshaft loop, and a massive, side sumped oil pan. A literal dual threat, road race and dragstrip Shelby. He drove that car to work in the mines for three years, before a baby sent it down the road. My aunt drove that heavy clutched monster while 8 months pregnant. The previous owner lived in South Carolina I believe ?? He also traded in a 289 green, side exhaust, wire spoked AC Cobra. At that time, he wanted a 1969 GT500. While my uncle did not buy the AC Cobra, he did go thru the carburetors on that car. Believe the AC Cobra was purchased by a mining executive in Virginia, at that time. The car made it back to Grady Whitlock Ford several times in the 1970's. Memory may be the Fairchild family that owned that Cobra ??? Grady Whitlock also had a GT40 in the showroom for several years. You'd think being West Virginia .. such cars wouldn't make it thru showrooms in that state. But Grady being who he was, there was always something interesting in hisnhands. Of all the cars that have gone thru my families hands, thru the years .. .. my dad's '59 Impala convertible and that '65 Shelby .. are by far my favorites.

I own a 68 KR.. The scoop on the side of the body in front of the drive axle.. is made for wheel well air flow. It helped prevent the flow from lifting the body. It was never officially called a break cooler scoop or whatever people called it. PS, good video but you have to work on getting rid of that used car salesman smile.. 😃

This video was very well done. More accurate than I would have expected. Two items that were not correct were: All 1966 GT-350s came with black valve covers. This is not correct. Both of my GT-350s (6S169 and 6S1245) came with hollow Cobra lettered valve covers (Silver/gray). 2nd Posi rear ends in 1966 GT-350s? I don't think so. 6S169 had a locker. 6S1245 (A Hertz Car) had an open rear end. I never saw or knew of a 66 GT-350 that came with positive-traction. Fords posi didn't work worth a darn in 66 anyway!

The young man looks very familiar to someone else I know at Legendary (who restored my red Hertz and yes the red paint has held up very well decades later.) Good to see the torch being passed to a young, highly competent, good looking and very presentable version of the early iteration. He is the perfect choice for the ambassador of all of Legendary's current and future offerings. I highly approve.

65’s had several assembly line modifications. Some came from the factory with radios, rear exiting exhaust (14 units),different steering wheels , rear axle ratios. Batteries went back to the front. There are lots of little subtle changes. The main changes that never changed was the motor exterior modifications, the locker, the konis, overrides, back deck inside, lower suspension, driveshaft loop and horn switch and tach. Mine came with radio, stripes, wheels and rear exiting custom exhaust and 411s.

I bought a new 66 GT350 from S&C Ford (San Francisco) which turned out to be a "carry-over" model. One of the hardest cars to drive around the City because of that super heavy clutch and locker rear end (yes, it did sound like it broke everytime you went around a corner). Had to get rid of it in 1968 (Viet Nam). In 2015, I purchased a new 2016 Shelby GT350 (same color - blue/white strips). Disappointed that Ford went with the Oxford White. I recommend anyone interested, buy the 2015-2020 GT350 - best Mustang EVER built by Ford. The 1965-66 versions are collector cars that will sit in a garage or showroom and hardly even driven. Buy a clone, much cheaper. I have passed my 2016 Shelby to my son, and since Ford will not build anymore, I hope he keeps it in the family for a long time.

He missed the bigger oil pan on the '66, can't recall if they were on the 65 model, street or track. I had a 66 (6S1089). Never drove a 65, but I sat in one and started the engine inside a Ford dealer's garage, which was partially underground...phew what a sound from those side exhausts. Don't know if it was a street or race version, but the 65s were more beastly than the 66. My friend has a 65 hi-po GT, and there was a big difference between that my my 66 Shelby.
