Very cool. Also I think what happened w/ the Widowmaker that Yvresse got declared war on by whoever occupied the Shrine (prolly Nagarond), dragged Couronne in to it and they ended up defeating the army that held the Widowmaker which then enabled Yvresse to capture the Shrine.

ah, Bretonnia. Back when I did my Clan Skyre world conquest a year and a half ago, those high-tier Bretonnian doomstacks were actually threatening. I actually had an ambush turned around on me once; those cavalry are just hell to deal with when I have a weapons team stack. Too bad that the ambush AI is so bad now, it would be be interesting to see how Legend dealt with a more proper threat here.

When I first started watching these, it was entirely for the miraculous battle wins (and the cheese, heh). Now, it's as much about the strategic insight and map magic before the battle; Legend offers up mad knowledge.

its mine campaign.I hired doomflayers cause before i had to deal with a lot of infantry and they good at stomp infantry and almost unaffected by friendly fire.But I completelly forgot about horse mens.Also fey enchantress with khaine sword just boogled my head.

I've gotten a lot of use out of a doomflayers, too, mainly using them as a front line while poison wind mortars or plague priests do most of the actual damage. Unfortunately, grail knights are one of the worst matchups for doomflayers, and Brettonia likes to recruit a lot of them. Legend knows how to think like a Skaven, though, so it worked out.

from rank 3 to rank 4 after losing one stack. then I'm thinking they probably got into double digits after wiping out the other two. since they most likely only had one or two stacks left. of course you never know. they always have a stack or two just laying around near their capital. plus they'll retrain an army in five or so turns.

This ambush ai makes realistic sense. An ambush with a mellee army implies you fighting what you want with what you want, if you're fast enough. A ranged heavy army used to just lead to a normal field battle but from a different angle... Cathing them off guard and being able to wipe them out makes sense

if you hold alt+drag your troop lines, they retain their formation

Select the units in question (if you want to move the entire army then hit ctrl A) then hold ALT and left click a spot on the map and then drag. That will allow you to move the selected troops forwards, backwards, left and right. In order to change the orientation of the army you: hold ALT, left click a spot on the map, hold CTRL and then drag. You can press and unpress CTRL during the same sequence to move an army, change it's orientation (the angle it is facing) and then move again. A little hard to explain but I hope that makes sense. The best use I saw Legend doing this was when setting up a checkerboard formation. Watch his video "Thorek Ironbrow's Quarrellers" and you'll see him use both of these functions to full effect. :)

It's no understatement to say that learning those 2 commands completely changed how I play all Total War games. It's 10x easier manoeuvring my entire army now, in not just Warhammer but other Total War games too. EDIT: Yeah I used to use locked control groups all the time too. Now I don't need to bother with any :)

Don't see a lot of Clan Mors or Clan Eshin disaster battles. I guess a lot of people just don't know how to use Ikit Claw to his full potential and get intro trouble. I mean sure knowing how to properly use a lord in battle will only make one army super strong, but one super strong army can eliminate a lot of threats that leave less for your generic armies.

that's just what the AI does in all ambushes now. CA broke them in the last update and then said that was the final update for warhammer 2, so until game 3 ambushes don't work properly.

Just finished a VH Skyre campaign today, Short campaign victory at turn 99. Riekland dead, all of Brettonia dead, all of Athel loren dead, Lothern under siege. 4 armies (lord, engineer, 3 priests, 5 ratling guns, 3 jezzail, 3 mortar, 4 catapults). Lords recruited at rank 15. Makes me wonder what they were doing for 100 turns to only be one screen away from the starting province.

It's not type advantage. Every time the AI gets ambushed, they don't charge. If your units are too far away. They always stand still and take artillery shots until they rout. Doesn't matter if you have only one hero and the enemy have 4 fullstacks. If you hit ambush in the enemy, they will go to the position they got detected and tell the entire army to blob there. I'm not sure if this was a bug in early versions, but it definitely is today.

@@rumplstiltztinkerstein No problem. I actually quite enjoy the Ambush ai. If you think about it, it might be intentional. If the AI acted like a player did, then ambushes would serve very little purpose outside of pre-battle unit placement. They might be trying somewhat to simulate a disorganized and startled army, but it just looks silly since there are only a few thousand units at most. In reality, armies could have numbered from 10,000 to 200,000 and they would also have baggage trains, camp followers, etc.

Those armies would piss over those Skaven armies, even in an ambush, if it was controlled by a competent human player. The developers should be embarrassed by the state of the A.I in ambush battles. As much fun as this game is to play, it is riddled with hair-pulling frustrating mechanics and gameplay that they haven't bothered to fix.......how Legend plays this constantly is the most amazing thing, it's no wonder he needed a break from it.

wow, this really highlights that WH2 isn't quite in the state I would expect for the final version of a game. Glitchy campaign movement (one of the most pivotal aspect of the strategic layer) and broken AI that compulsively reforms when ambushed aren't great... obviously, unlikely to get fixed by WH3 but I'm really hoping they stick to that game long enough to polish it before moving on to other projects.

Although i noticed when i started my first campaign on very hard battle difficulty this worked way better than on normal is the ai just broken on higher difficulties?

You can actually target the ground with artillery by holding alt and right clicking. I guessing you might know this but choose not to do it for some reason and if so I'm curious what the reason might be. If not, you're welcome. Happy cheesin Legend.

Well, by doing that.the artillery will continuously fire. In a disaster situation that means potential lost balance by shots hitting nothing before legend changes the order. Bout the only thing I could think of for not using that particular tool.
