Is this the SYDC that Legend can't fix? Not for lack of skill, it's just seems impossible, simply because it's going to take a long time with no possibility to replenish casualties. If each settlement had a sack value of 15000, and you sacked 30, that would come out to 450000,- and it still wouldn't cover the current debt, although the meager tax revenue would build up over that time. I suspect most rebel settlements in Western Europe were once a part of the original empire, and as such they're underdeveloped and won't yield much sack value, so the reality is that you're going to have to sack far more cities than my optimistic estimate. Even if you don't take casualties, you still have to leave one unit behind in each settlement you take, slowly withering your armies anyway. Meanwhile, the Moors have a large army that will be difficult to deal with, and it's conceivable that other enemies are also building their strength, which begs the question; what is going to happen in the next 50 turns? Is Poland, Venice or Hungary going to send a full stack? What about Spain or Milan? There's not a single city able to withstand even a small force, and the French armies are spread thin. It seems to me that it's more likely that you'll actually win the whole campaign with what you have than bring the economy out of the red. And can you do that?
@darkspirit19116 жыл бұрын
^ This. It's gonna be interesting to see whether he fails, gets out of debt or outright gets the win condition with what he's got.
@stephenhartley28536 жыл бұрын
he'll make it out of debt no problem, assuming something disastrous happens and he loses his 3 or so stacks, just means he will be making shitloads of cash, probably about 20000 per turn with all those settlements. and this is the unlikely bad scenario, more likely legend will take another ten cities before he runs out of troops with each city adding 600-1000 per turn while also reducing the number of soldiers in the army. he's about 75% of the way there by my estimation
@y.z.65176 жыл бұрын
See my calculation in another post: let treasury in the first turn be d0, treasury in turn t be d(t), revenue generated by each city in turn t be r, number of cities conquered in turn t be k, revenue generated by sacking in turn t be s, cost in turn t be c. Assuming that LOTW conquers n cities each turn. Integrate (k) over t, cities owned in turn t is ( n = k*t +n0 ) revenue generated through cities owned in turn t is ( (k*t +n0)*r ) Integrate (s) over t, total money sacked in turn t is ( s*t ) Thus, profit in turn t is p(t) = r * (k*t +n0)*r + s*t, Integrate profit over t, total treasury in turn t is ( d0 + (n0*r^2 - c)*t + ((1/2)*k*r^2 + (1/2)*s)*t^2 ). 1. In the long run, most money comes from tax, not sacking. 2. Money has no use, except to shorten the length of debt. 3. If he has half the troops, he expands significantly slower (about a quarter as fast). But he'll eventually pay his debt, because his cost is also halfened. 4. The only danger is that he loses too many troops. Then he slowly loses all cities. Resulting in losing the game.

A French plague, desperately rampaging across Europe, caused depopulation and economic ruin wherever they conquered, for a hundred years. Is this how the world ends? Is this the judgement of God on the iniquities of Christendom, asked those few monks and priests who survived the repeated waves of sack and slaughter. No matter how far the French bandit-knights roamed, they couldn't outrun their debts, and their hunger. Even as they slew each militia flung against them, they bled away, and yet their need of coin scarcely reduced. Only time would tell which would die first: all of Europe, the French warriors themselves, or the global banking system, teetering precariously over the yawning abyss of the French debts, which it seemed would never be ended, even if every Christian in the world were to be sold into slavery by France's Pauper King.

'Course, money isn't real, true wealth is human welfare, and no banking system is worth protecting at the cost of the real economy. The garrison wouldn't even need to believe that the only troops outside their castle are a single general and his bodyguard. If they know that the general is on one side and the army on the other side, they may still risk sallying out to catch the general, since if they would manage that it would be a huge blow to the sieging army. I don't doubt that scenarios like this have happened countless times over history with varying levels of success for either side. Sometimes leading to a successful capture of the sieging general and then lifting the siege through negotiation. Other times leading to a result like you get here every time, with maybe the only difference being that the enemy atleast kept a minor garrison and the sallying force simply surrendering when the tide turns against them. Really the "cheese" tactics that LoTW uses aren't the unrealistic parts of his playstyle, the unrealistic part is that he has a 100% success rate.

I wouldn’t say you’d need to use cheats. Just set it up so you have a massive negative income and click end turn for like 30 turns. Let the rebellions spread and spanish take 2/3 of the territory you had and to make it especially desperate, screw with the pope and take rome. That basically ensures excommunication and a crusade declared on you.
@theoneandjabroni30026 жыл бұрын
from episode 1s analysis, it looks pretty legit. Massive armies just sitting in cities as garrisons, stacks full with mercenaries, lack of developed settlements to support the rapid expansion Op undertook and the fact that what meagre income those settlements provided was taken away bit by bit until the empire was fractured all seem to indicate this actually happened without cheats. Its borderline impressive in and of itself
@roblaquiere82206 жыл бұрын
You wouldn't need to cheat to get this far in the red. If one intended to get large debt, to make a challenge, they could just decide to gift massive amounts of gold to AIs over many turns. Do that with as many AI as possible and I bet it could rack up to any amount of debt you wanted.
@miot226 жыл бұрын
Man WithCubes Once you’re in the negative you can no longer keep that up. It’s more sensible to build up a small capital (like 20k) and use that over a short period of time to recruit a bunch of expensive mercs and drop your income to -5k per turn. Once you’re in that state, it takes a couple of turns to eat up your piggy bank and start the snowball. Lose some towns to rebels and the spanish and your income drops further. Get excommunicated to ensure christian factions hate you and join a crusade against you to lose more towns and any trade deals. By now your income is 10-15k per turn in the red. Click end turn mindlessly for 30 turns and voila, -500k in debt by turn 50. Rather than cheating it reeks of a deliberate set up. Nobody is this incompetent (unless the player is 8yo) to get to a point where you’re over -500k in debt. As soon as you’re in the red (2-10k) and your expenses exceed your income by that much, there would be evidence that some measures were taken to stop the downward snowball. Yet we see no evidence that such steps were taken, in fact it appears as if absolutely nothing was done other than end turn and the occasional battle while waiting for the debt to sink further.
