This hit reminds me of when Michael Croker said Billy Slater tried to take credit for knocking out Brett Stewart in the 2007 Grand final. No penalty or sin binning. A real journalist would ask Slater about his taking credit for such an incident to expose the hypocrisy in the current opinions today

*THIS* risk is what everybody who plays against James Tedesco has to watch out for every match. Every tackle, he dives down at the last minute so his head is at hip height - inviting a penalty for a head high.

I disagree. I thought it was a dud Origin opener. The moment Suaalili was sent it was game over. The whole spectacle died right then. Also IMO, the NSW halves are NOT rep players, Jake is NOT a captain, the forwards seemed to be all one out, not cohesive. Actually I think its a dud team with a dud coach. It will be 3 zip Qld.

They would have been better off with Luai at 7 calling the shots and Hynes at 6. Luai looked right up for it, Hynes looked out of his depth. The whole Jake thing was odd. If he's such a good defender when what we needed were good defenders, why leave him off the field for so long?
@jaguarj1942

It doesn’t really matter what the intention was, the tackle was dangerous. Mistakes happen but when you let them go unpunished, more “mistakes” tend to happen. If you can gain any kind of advantage in a game by making a mistake that endangers the health of another person then that just incentivises riskier behaviour which can ruin the entire sport and not just one game.

Lomax was good, too. The weak links unfortunately were Hynes and Tedesco. Hynes is a great bloke but his defense is found out at this level, and he was all at sea tonight. His kicking game was terrible, and I lost count of the number of times he was tackled in possession because he didn't know what to do. He's not a bad player, but the praise for him the last two years has been over the top. He hasn't even won a finals game. And last year was a year too many for Tedesco, and tonight was two years too many. He's not the player he was four years ago, but he spends the whole game trying to pretend he is. He hogged the ball all night, just like game 1 last year, and did nothing with it expect stifle the attack. He's just ruining his legacy now.

Agree with both of you, my thoughts exactly...... Hynes over rated, good at club level but that's it. Should bring in Luke Keary or Moses as halfback next game, and drop Tedesco (past his use by date) for Dylan again. No way Tedesco should play origin again. Madge to shuffle his reserve bench better. Not sure that Jake T should be Captain imo. Bring back Adocarr on wing again, he won't let anybody down in origin.

Freddy's zero tolerance policy on any sort of contact with the head is predictable and at times laughable. Fatty and to a lesser degree Munster were spot on in their assessment of the hit. There would literally be hundreds of tackles in this game and every game where if the ball runner slips at the last minute what would be considered a good tackle turns in to a head high shot. Accidents are going to happen, it's the nature of the sport. If Walsh had run in and not slipped and Sualii had collected him like that then send him off and suspend him for 12 weeks, but what we saw there should have been no more than a sin binning. QLD then get the benefit of a replacement player, and it's game on. The game was effectively over at that point.

No I think we have to stick with Nico. I feel like he deserves his shot and changing now not only imo ends his origin series but his origin future. He needs to loose this tentative aspect to his play, we saw it before coming off against Penrith and we saw it in this instance. He needs to be able to direct from a go forward position. @@jacksonloram7887 I had Nico picked in my team , but I preferred Cody Walker at 6. I had Latrell and Crighton in the centres tho As for making a change next game , No. I say that for various reasons, but I do believe in continuity, I do believe this game was the exact opposite of a blueprint to what Nico needs ( game manager not game changer imo) and I do believe he is still the best option. Added to this I think enough changes are coming anyway ( fullback and centre for a start) that NSW need to keep further distraction to a minimum. So I stick with Nico and hope he has more conviction in his play. I would also as a NSW fan caution the blues to think the only reason we lost was because we were a man down. We looked disjointed from the beginning, communication was poor, game awareness was poor, game execution was poor . But folks , Queensland only played at 70%. That team looked like a team and they will improve. Lethal in attack, stubborn in defense. Game 2 could get ugly and get ugly quick . Hate to say it, but that's my opinion lol

If head office was serious about concussion, they wouldn't promo the game by showing Gallon punching Miles in the head. It is a contact sport where the difference between a chest high tackle that draws praise, and a shoulder to the head that leads to a send-off, is a millisecond (and a foot slip). The head office should stop their hypocrisy of promoting the game as a hard and physical game on one hand then punishing player mistakes to protect themselves from possible future litigation over concussions. No malice should be no send=off. Anything else is just pure hypocrisy.

Its a send off but it should also be a reserve to come on after 10 mins. Perhaps even a time proportional for the remaining game time. I've been watching on the club level every game people go at Walshy hard, it is no coincidence. Many people said before the game something like this would happen. Surprised it resulted in a send-off, not surprised it happened though. If you are gonna winge about a man down so much, I think you need to rethink whether your Origin team is worth spit. It was time for NSW to step up, instead, they just winged about being a man down. Well f me dead, were all the other players on your side useless? Disadvantaged sure, but that is where you prove yourself.
