Great documentary. Amazing to think that Tyrrell were still entering F1 races in 1998. Also that Jackie Stewart had his own team in the 1997 and 1998 seasons. Bit sad though that both Ken and his wife didn't get to enjoy a long retirement after selling the team. Both would be gone within 4 years of Tyrrell's end.

A Championship winning F1 car built at a humble timber yard in Surrey. Today's F1 would never been built in an environment like that. Tyrrell were always the innovators back in the 70s trying new things to excite the growing sport but as the 90s came along fell away to the difficult financial growth like Lotus and Brabham also. Watching my favourites Williams F1 struggle now in the past few seasons is kinda like what happened to the old guard when they in their 80s/90s heyday, a shame but a progression of the new style.

These were times when ‘people’ were the biggest factors in winning….not computers. Everything is completely analogue. This was F1 when I was growing up in the 1960s and 70s.

Yes but Tyrell racing failed from frontrunners in 1970s to backmarkers in the 80s and 90s ,Lotus atlest won 7 constructors championship Tyrrell only won 1.

Did you notice who produced it? Suspect Mark Stewart may be one of Jackies sons..the other being Paul. And yes a good doco and Ken seemed like Bruce McLaren a quality honest bloke in a dodgy often highly dishonest industry that like much of society seems to get more dishonest and paper thin on what actually is important versus 'all show and no go' as in shallow people, talking themselves up. Versus in the earlier days more transparency and depth on every level. Including humbleness.

I like Tyrrell F1 cars from the 1990-1995, particularly the 019 high nose, it's so inspiring for the following generation formula one cars...and of course the 6-wheeled P34

Ken Tyrell’s son became a British Airways pilot. He was liked and respected.

Sadly, Tyrell never recovered after the loss of Cervert and Stewart's retirement. They were a great F1 team. They had some moments later on, what with people like Jean Alesi - but nothing like their glory days. Ken Tyrell was a great of F1. I love what he said about F1 in the 1990s : "there's no bloody overtaking".

Tyrrell successfully raced a six wheel car, which reduced the diameter and drag from the front tires. Unfortunately, tire manufacturers weren't interested in developing smaller tires and, as usual, the rules were changed to make them illegal. I'd like to digress and note that Jackie Stewart made himself very unpopular by championing driver safety, but many of today's drivers owe him their lives. I was disgusted by the racing media, which nearly all claimed that the danger was a necessary part of racing.

Quite remarkable Tyrrell and sir Jackie were both underachievers in the academic world, but tremendous overachievers in the real world. And, as far as Chapman being the "genious innovator", I quite like to think KT was just as as much an innovator, but not a flamboyant (sometimes ridiculous) person like CC; no tossing hats in the air at finish lines, no involvement with shifty characters, no feverish marketing. Tyrrell was a discreet gentleman, and a very elegant man in his own way. And an innovator as well, for, who would ever consider a 6-wheel F1 car? I so wished Peterson had won a title for KT driving a six wheeler. In retrospect, perhaps Tyrrell should have poached Peterson away from Lotus in 1974, with Sheckter and Peterson in the beautiful 007, I think there was a good chance KT could have taken the title away from Fittipaldi and McLaren, since they struggled a quite a bit, and only took the title at the last race.

As much as Colin Chapman was a "genius", he sometimes seemed to sit on his laurels, as opposed to Ken Tyrrell who was incredibly hard working. Proof is, between 1971 and 1975, Lotus only 'developed' the 72 model, a great car obviously, while Tyrrell built three different cars, each an evolution from the last, the 005, 006, and the 007.

Dr 2Stroke Ricardo Rosset also know as tosser, he's the reason Ken quit his own team before the 98 season as Ken wanted Jos Verstapen(can't spell his last name) but B.A.R. chose the tosser instead. Ken's son also quit the team with his father.
