Watch Brad Pitt fight a bear and die. Also, the bear actually gets a spot in the credits as "Bart the bear." That part of the credits isn't shown in this video, but now you know that the bear's name is Bart, and I'm sure that knowledge will end up saving your life one day.

What I love the most is that. Tristan doesn't seem surprised or startled to see the bear. Almost like he'd been waiting for the day they'd meet again. Whole scene gives you chills.

+CroPETROforeverNBA 1)"time goes by and we feel safe too soon."This shows two things. a) He is basically stating that Tristan jumped into thinking he was "HAPPY". He is saying that Tristan is actively SEEKING a false, peaceful happiness, unlike the tumultuous love for Susannah, that will not tax his nerves. Everyone wants that but it is seldom obtainable! Tristan had MISSED his one chance at happiness with Susannah, and in seeking it with Isabel Two, had found only a small part of it, that was ultimately false, not the REAL LOVE of his life, but rather, someone comfortable to him and approved of by his relatives. 2) He had ptsd and knew that he would not be the same unless he found some clarity in life. When he wrote the letter to Susannah, I believe it was out of love. He knew he was not in the right state of mind and didn't think he would return home and if he did, he know that he, at least in that state, couldn't make her happy the way she deserved. The note was written to free her, so she could officially be happy, which I believe he did out of selflessness only coming from true love, not because he truly let her go. This is proven when Tristan returns the second time with obvious intentions of marrying her because now in sane mind, he believed they would be able to be together. He even goes to speak with her, not his brother and when he sees her in the garden, you can see it in his face how much he still loves her and even more so as he explains to her the reasoning behind sending her the bracelet while persuading her to keep it. I believe he married Isabelle two because he was lonely and while he cared very deeply for her, I don't feel his love for her was the same as that for Susannah.I believed he still loved her despite knowing they would never be together. When he receives the news she has passed, you can tell beyond doubt he loved her and that it broke his heart Putting another's happiness above your own is true love in its purest form. 3)His relationship with isabel seemed very platonic and even alfred sees how they are more like siblings. There is no passion there. Tristan was never like he was before. And that was the aim too! They changed his character for the worse and he lost his wildness and passion for life. The tristan character overall was contradictory. I know many women married to a real tristan and he isn't like the movie made him to be. Nor are those men attracted to children lol. Isabel had issues and I found it wrong for the writers to have included her. This could still have been the tragedy they wanted but it sadly didn't flow. I suggest you watch a river runs through it. It is a great film and James's music would have fared better there. They threw him under a bus with this film. A river runs through it, braveheart, last of the mohicans and more are better. If they cut the child marriage out, and made it truly about love as it should have been, then it would have been a better film. Great music, first half and last scenes, main cast and scenery. But it wasn't an overall good film

all the people on here asking why is this film underrated? Let me tell you why, some of the best movies in the world and throughout history are underrated. thats how it is, at the end of the day movies are subjective. Also timing, some films become masterpieces later when society and people catch up and realize a decade later that there was something to that and should look a bit closer. So timing plays a part and subjectiveness, that's it, either way it is a masterpiece, whether 2 people see it or 200000000 people see it and regardless how many awards it wins. I've seen masterpieces that have no nominations.

I notice it's only KIDS and super young adults who call this movie (and TONS of other classics) underrated. It is absolutely NOT underrated, just unknown to those who aren't knowledgeable of classic movies.

fun fact, the person playing "Old Tristan" wasn't Brad Pitt, the makeup they tried to use to make him look older didn't work well on camera. Not only that, but it was too dangerous for him to wrestle Bart the Bear. The man playing Old Tristan is actually Bart's trainer, as he was the only person who had the ability to safely wrestle with Bart for the camera.

I can understand people saying that you don't want to be old and the only one left, but I don't understand why they would say you have nothing else to live for. What about yourself??? Don't you love yourself enough to want to live out the rest of your life - with or without another loved one? Personally, I'm just fine with that if it came to be the case.

Tristan lived a life that was Up and Down but very Adventurous which sadly most of us never get to live. Fought in World War I and literally Walked The Earth, going from Africa, Europe, the USSR, the Middle East, China, Japan, Australia and South America meeting and interacting with all different people from walks of life, had many Beautiful Women, lived to see his own Kids grow up and raise their own kids (his grandkids) and died going out like a Warrior-Badass👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿

This film is a masterpiece. It's captivating. And the other fact is that I am the oldest among my sibling and the wildest. I could relate to both Alfred and Tristan in some way or the other. But in this movie, I admire and relate to Alfred's character more than anyone else. As an older sibling, I understand why he acted the way he did. Neverthless, I wish I could wipe my memories and watch this movie all over again.

It was a good death. And in the end, it was the bear, like destiny, finding him at the end. Tristan didn’t seem surprised that it was the bear, because deep inside he had been waiting for that bear to come again his whole life. He died fighting- the best kind of death for that kind of man

From the storyline, to the impeccable way the cast portrays the charters and even the meticulously choreographed music for every scene- never mind the pure raw emotional journey it takes you on until the very last 5 words of the final scene are narrated , just pure 90's perfection.

You are led to believe that this is the bear he did not kill from his youth. That scene where he was zeroed in on the bear but let it live. just my look on it. kind of like his character had the instinct of knowing that this is what will kill me, he couldn't understand why he didn't want to shoot it.
