One thing that Red doesn't mention in this part of the story (For good reason, it'd make the video too long) is actually rather wholesome. While raiding the temple, monkey asks sandy to pass him the "weird smelling…peach-thing". It was a mandarin, and Pigsy taunts Monkey that he couldn't recognise it, in response to which, monkey reveals that his eyes are deteriorating due to the smoke from the eight-trigrams cauldron (See episode 1) which gave him magical eyes instead that allow him to see the TRUE FORMS of things. Hearing that his normal eyesight is weak, Sandy asks if he could draw the party as he sees them, through his truth seeing eyes. The paintings do not get revealed, as the immortals soon enter the room and they have to hide, but they're revealed later to Tripitaka by Sandy, and here's a better description written by someone else that summarises it nicely: "Tripitaka trailed off as his disciple handed him the folded paper. Opening it he finds four simple paintings of…what seemed to be their group. The first seemed to be of Ao Lie (The dragon-horse), a simple dragon-like squiggle, next to it was some very childish and messy handwriting simply spelling out the dragon-horses name. The second was of Pigsy, Wukong quite obviously didn’t put much effort into his one, so there is less detail, excluding the stink lines emanating off of the pigman with crudely written insults popped off to the side. The third is Sandy, more respect is placed in this painting, and his features are more defined with cleaner lines and a modest face…there is also a silly painting of him where he simply has a fish for a head. Finally, there was Tripitaka himself, still crude yet genuine passion was put into his depiction. Painted as a heavenly figure who has come to help Wukong become who he was meant to be. There is no doubt that the loyalty Wukong feels for his master is genuine. Tripitaka sighs, a small smile creeps on his face “Wukong is a kind soul, despite his destructive methods, he is a good person. Don’t tell him I said this, but I believe when he reaches Nirvana, he will truly become what he was always meant to be…..” his voice trails off again “Victorious”" Just... Hits me in the feels man!

@The Fruit Group Short version: Buddha gave it to guan yin and she, in turn, put it on monkey. Long version: When guan yin volunteered to set up the journey, buddha gave her 3 of those headbands. The 1st one went on monkey, the 2nd one when on the demon that stole tripitaka's fancy rode (don't remember what it's called) (never mentioned in the part). The 3rd one went on red boy (was gone over). At the start of the journey, guan yin received 5 magical artifacts from buddha. Red's version never gone over what those are (I think) but every adaptation I've seen, depicts those as a robe (the same stolen one), staff and 3 headbands, the very headbands that were used on the previously mentioned demons. I've never read the book so correct me if the book doesn't say any of this, and future adaptations added these themselves, but with how much Red has been praising the books, I refuse to believe that the book would leave out this much detail.

I’m here to rescue you.” “But by killing them you’ve only made things worse for us,” they said. “How can you say you’re here to rescue us?” “I’m Sun Wukong the Novice,” Monkey replied, “the disciple of the holy priest from the Great Tang, and I’ve come here specially to save you.” “No, you’re not,” the monk said. “We know what that great lord looks like.” “But how could you?” Monkey asked. “You’ve never met him.” “We’ve seen an old man in a dream who told us he was the Great White Planet. He told us what Sun the Novice, or Monkey, looks like so that we wouldn’t confuse him with anyone else.” “How did the Planet describe him to you?” Monkey asked him. To this the Buddhist monk replied, “He told us that the Great Sage has a brow that seems split open, two flashing of eyes of gold, a head that’s round, a hairy face, and sunken cheeks, we’re told. Out of a pointed muzzle sharp little teeth protrude; he looks much like a thunder god, and his Conduct’s very crude. He wields a cudgel of iron with ends banded in gold with which he smashed the Heavenly gates as a rebel in times of old. Now he has seen the light of the faith he’s escorting his master, and saves whoever he can from death and disaster.” Monkey was both angry and pleased to hear this. He was pleased that his fame had been spread, but thought angrily, “That old rascal, telling these ordinary mortals what I really look like.” Then he found himself speaking aloud and saying, “Gentlemen, you’re quite right that I’m not Sun the Novice. I’m only a servant of his who’s come here to fool around and practice making trouble. But Sun the Novice is coming-look over there!” He pointed East, tricking all the monks into turning away while he resumed his true appearance.

According to my Googling, in the 500 years Monkey was imprisoned under the mountain, the rumors of what he'd done spread among Heaven to lesser gods who, apparently, weren't there for the whole event and didn't realize it was just a symbolic peace offering. Yeah it is kind of awesome. Chinese religious ritual is basically filing the correct forms with correct departments of the heavenly government. They also have protocols for bribing the correct people in order to expedite the processing of said forms or slip things through. Sometimes you have to refile the same paperwork multiple times if it's ignored or lost or even send complaints to higher up departments or ask for hearings when something is denied.

It could well be that Chinese imperial bureaucracy is so ancient that it even outdated many Chinese myths and folklores.

I remember reading somewhere that in the Chinese pantheon, having a near-death experience is because someone in the bureaucracy of heaven made a clerical error.
@TeaSerpent4 жыл бұрын
@@KcBlues01 There are tons of Zhigui stories of that exact thing. Zhigui (Zhi being a term for records of an event and Gui meaning something strange or supernatural) was a popular genera that recorded various tales being passed around in oral form about people's experiences with ghosts, spirits, gods, immortals, demons, the afterlife or explainable phenomena. At the very least it seems to be a widespread folk belief. Ideas of deities deciding the human lifespan and recording the time of death are common across the world. In China you see this set in the idea of a bureaucratic heaven starting in Han dynasty times. In the earliest Daoist sects you see books being published very early describing the official standards of the heavenly government regarding punishments for moral infringements (ie immoral actions were punished by subtracting time from your lifespan). In the early Daoist community they practiced public confession of sins to prevent or lessen the time that would be subtracted. Later you see other ideas such as bribing or somehow preventing the minor functionary gods who reported these sins from actually reporting them to their boss who was in charge of recording them and subtracting the time from the lifespan. Of course there was also the idea that people naturally started with different lifespans so a bad person with lots of sins who at birth was given a long initial lifespan could, despite all the time subtracted for bad deeds, still outlive a virtuous person who had started with a very short lifespan. This was often attributed to the earthly and solar influences on the developing fetus. (astrology was massive in China).

To all the people asking "what happened" to this series, here are some facts you should consider: Red has never said anything about cancelling JttW, and has repeatedly said she plans to continue it. The last five episodes came out in April 2016, March 2017, February 2018, December 2018, and December 2019, meaning that episodes 4-7 have taken between ten and twelve months each to finish. (Episodes 2 and 3 came out faster, but I think the recent trend is more relevant here.) It is currently September 2020, roughly 9 months after the last episode came out. Logical conclusion: Absolutely nothing has happened, this is exactly what anyone who's looked at the upload dates should expect, and the next part will most likely be up around the end of this year. I'd allow a few months of wiggle room since it's not updating on a firm schedule, and say that if there are no new episodes by, say, March, THEN we should start wondering if something's wrong. And even then the most likely answer will be, "No, the next part is just taking longer than usual." What I don't understand is why almost everyone who watches JttW seems to end up leaving some comment along the lines of "OMG this series that updates about once a year hasn't updated in a month! Why is it cancelled!?" Do you also panic if your favorite weekly TV show hasn't put out a new episode in the last two days?

Gradually coming to recognize serious situations, getting straight to the point with necessary tasks, and showing the appropriate level of assertion when telling off others, all while retaining his quirky personality. He still teases people and conducts his usual hijinks, but now it's much more tactful in planning and execution, in contrast to his much more brazen shenanigans of the past.
