Really appreciate this solid info. Trying hard to find the funds. 2008 Sportster 1200L new to me. Factory shocks are toast/scary bottoming out. Looking at the baseline Legends. Not sure I understand enough about rebound to even want/need adjustments there. I'm not gonna cheap out but still it's a big jump from the 412sor 444s I was considering...y'all make some great vids though and I sure appreciate all the knowledge. See what I can gather up, lol.

We are glad you like the videos; we do have Rebound specific videos on our KZbin channel. Essentially the rebound speeds up and slows down the shock after you hit a bump and changes the feel softer or firmer to your liking. There is no wrong choice or "entry level" shock, they just offer different features based on what you need. The Standard Revo will be just like if you rode the rebound setting 3 on the Revo-A. Since the Standard Revo is always on setting 3 and 3 is the MOST popular setting, understand that we made the Revo fixed on setting 3 because that is what most folks prefer. Anything else from build quality, comfort, performance is all the same and equal quality. There is not "downgrade"

Longer shocks will increase your rake angle . This will make the steering more responsive but also less stable and twitchy. So if you want a more plush long travel ride and a more responsive steering and don't mind loosing some stability, then it's a win win. But if you're not willing to compromise on stability and feel your steering is already twitchy, then maybe you want to keep the same spring height. Makes sense?

I've couple of noob questions. 1. Other than length, is there any other component that makes a particular monoshock to be compatible or imcompatible with a particular motorcycle model? In other words, if i am looking to swap out monoshock of my bike with a stock shock of some other bike, is length and travel the only thing I need to look at? 2. Does changing length of the shock change rake/trail? If so, how?

Hello, great questions. 1) We only make suspension for Harley or Harley V-Twin based customs, so if you are looking to install our suspension on something that is not a Harley or Harley based Chassis, we do not recommend this. The spring rate, leverage ratio, load range of the shock, spring rate and mounting style should all be taking into account as well. 2) In terms of the length, yes, this will impact the Rake and Trail of the bike by either raising or lowering the front or rear suspension this will increase or decrease the rake and trail of the bike. A reduction of rake and trail by raising the rear of the bike will tend to increase ease of steering and make the bike feel nimbler, however, it can make the bike more "Twitchy." it can also decrease high speed stability in some extreme cases. increasing the rake tends to make the bike handle slower, in some cases it can make the bike more stable at higher speeds, but there is a correct and incorrect amount on both ends of the spectrum. Hello, Thank you for the inquiry. While you technically can run the shocks with a lowering kit, we strongly do not recommend this, it changes the shocks geometry and makes it harder to set sag as well as degrades the ride quality from what it could be. If you are wanting a 12" shock which will sit at 11.5" with the sag set, then lower another 1" we would recommend something like AIR suspension as this will allow you to full compress the shocks down to 10-1/4" when aired down but while riding could sit at more stock height to give you suspension travel. Getting the bike that low, while we understand the need, will degrade your ride to the point where you will be very uncomfortable. As mentioned, yes, they do mount up, but we do not recommend it. It can also potentially void the warranty for incorrectly installing the shocks. We do unfortunately only offer suspension options for V-Twin and V-Twin based customs, however, there must be someone out there who offers some suspension for this setup. We recommend placing a jack under the bike and measure the full length of your shocks, so you know what size you have, then check around with some brands who offer metric fitments (we can name names), but you may want to opted for a 1" shorts length, or the same size shock with a larger suspension sag range, that would help you get lower without losing suspension travel like a full blown shorter shock might do. You may find a local shop with a Parts Unlimited account as you may see other brands of suspension in there. Drag Specialties website even offers a Dealer locator on their site with your zip code. My street glide came with stock 12'' well, I'm 5 ' 9" tall ,185lb. and at 13" shock , even with the sag its a Pain to get on and Off the bike. So my replacements are S/S Drag specialties 11" to lower my ride seat height by 1", and this doesn't effect the ride or cornering or suspension travel.

Hello Mark, Stock suspension would have you at 12" with little to no sag in your weight range, our 13" shocks would have 1" sag and you would be sitting right at 12" while seated, or same as stock, If you have 13" Legend shocks you can contact our Customer Service Dept and they can convert your 13" shocks into 12" shocks as a standard feature of the Revo or Revo-A and our 12" shocks will sit at 11-1/2" while seated, they would get 1/2" max suspension sag.

I have a 2018 HD Sport Glide, and I'm interested in a rear shock that has 56mm of travel for the suspension instead of the stock 42mm. This is the Showa shock that has the preload sag adjustment mounted on the right side of the bike. Taller guy at 6'4", ride mostly solo, weight 275 and the roads here in Southern California with the Canyons are pretty rough and in poor condition, freeways too, pounded by all the heavy trucks that off load shipments out of China on the West Coast out of Los Angeles Harbor. Is it doable and what do you recommend?

Thanks for the comment. The Sport Glide comes stock with a 12.5" rear shock on it. Legend Suspensions offers a replacement 12.5" shock, we also offer lengths of 13" and 13.5" shocks as well. One of those longer length shocks will greatly increase rideability for you and offer a much-improved ride over stock. The preload adjuster on the stock suspension leaves a lot to be desired. Our suspension will have weight-based preload adjustment as well as rebound adjustment. You will have 6 rebound settings to choose from once you set your suspension sag and that additional rebound adjustment will help you tune out your specific road conditions. We receive this type of request often from folks in your neck of the woods. We also offer the suspension in 2 spring rates. Standard (up to 350lbs) or Heavy Duty (350lbs+) so depending on how you ride most often or if you do ride 2-up, you will want to take this into account when picking the spring, we offer spring changes so if you decide to change, we can help with that as well. Hey there. First of all, that sounds like a long ride on a sporty, you are a trooper for sure. Okay. So, the stock shocks are super firm and tend to sit fully extended which means to sit very close to 12" anyway. Our 13" shocks when you sit on the bike with you can and duffle you will want to set your suspension sag, 1" is max and a good starting point. This would have you sitting at 12" with all of your gear but you compressed the suspension 1" to get there and accounted for you and your gear. You would gain 1" of suspension travel going to 13" shocks and not gain a ton in ride height running 1" of sag. but you'd have 3" of suspension travel and on a 6,000-mile trip you will want all the comfort you can get. Good thing is 12" or 13" shocks can always be sent into Legend to be converted to one another should you get a length and decide you wanted to go the other way with length. Boils down to this. 13" sits at 12" and has 3" of suspension travel. 12" shocks will sit at 11-1/2" with 2" of suspension travel. Either option will be insanely better than stock. There are a couple of things that can be measured depending on what measurement you are looking for. If you are trying to figure out the length of the shocks you have. install a jack and raise the bike till the wheel is off the ground, this will full extend the suspension and then you can measure from the center of the top shock bolt to the center of the bottom shock bolt. For Sag you will want the tire on the ground with the bikes weight on the shocks, then sit bike and have someone measure from center to center on the shock bolts. We have a KZbin video on suspension sag as well. Hope this answers your questions.

Great info! I ride long distance and would love to upgrade my suspension but I'm afraid to lose any additional footing. I ride a 22 SGS, I'm 5'5" 150ish lbs, mostly ride solo and I'm not quite flat foot. I believe my stock is 12" so getting 12" legends can possibly bring me down a half inch and provide a more comfy ride?? Is it set at 11.5" or is that with a specific amount of weight on the bike?

Hey @Vanessa, You would be correct, at your weight range you really are not getting any suspension sag on the stock suspension, The Revo or Revo-A in a 12" would allow for 1/2" suspension sag and have you sitting more in the 11-1/2" range and getting you 1/2" lower than you are now. Depending on how much luggage you carry, you are still a "smaller rider" so if you do not carry a lot of gear, we recommend reaching out to our Customer Service Dept [e-mail]. We do offer a lighter than standard spring rate when someone is smaller if they cannot get their suspension sag set on the 110 spring. We offer them the 90# spring. You might need that from the get go. This spring rate is not commercially available so getting the shocks directly from Legend Suspensions in this instance we can build your shocks with those 90# springs right away. If you were to purchase them at a local shop this is totally fine, but if a spring change is needed you would need to have them sent in to Legend Suspensions for the change. I misunderstood can I run 14" on a 2014 streetglide?

On the Street Glide 14" shocks will fit as long as you have an exhaust shorter than the rear axle, otherwise the axle nut will hit the exhaust before you can get your mounting points 14" apart to install the shocks, and then at full extension the axle nut would contact the mufflers before getting full travel. As well, with this tall of a rear shock we recommend running the Axeo 2+ taller front suspension otherwise you will be taller in the back than in the front and this will reduce rake angle and can make the bike very responsive but can be unstable at speed. Some might even say twitchy. 14" is designed to work with 2+ 13" works best with Standard height. 12" works best with Standard height or -1" kit. You can run 12" or 13" on the new Street Glide, it really comes down to preference. 12" shocks sit at 11-1/2" with 2" of travel 13" shocks sit at 12" with 3" of travel. So, seat height is about 1/2" difference and you gain 1" on the 13", that is why we tend to recommend the 13" for the extra travel.

The taller rear shocks are really recommended for use with a 2+ front end. @nickfatibene Good question, If you like where the bike is sitting now and do not want it taller under any circumstances then we suggest sticking to 12" However, our 13" shocks will sit at 12" when seated on the bike with the sag set at 1". The 12" shock will sit more at 11-1/2" while seated with the sag set to 1/2" (which is max for 12") If you want the bike a little lower than go 12" if you do not mind the bike being maybe 1/2" to 3/4" taller while not seated, than the 13" shocks do offer more suspension travel and a larger range of adjustment. Keep in mind you will never end up with shocks that do not work for you since we can simply get them in for a length conversion if you get 12" and decide you want 13" or the other way around. Hello, Thank you for your interest in Legend Suspensions. On your '17 Sportster 48 those bikes generally came with a 13" shock, you may know this, if you do not know what length you have you can put a jack under the bike and fully extend suspension and measure bolt to bolt on the shocks for the length. Or just measure quick and if it is more than 12" then you have 13" A lot of people tend to go 13" or 14" (14 being the tallest we offer) 14" shocks do not sit at a full 14" because you will have suspension sag and when you sit the shocks will compress. We generally recommend about 1" of sag so this would have you at a true 13". or you could run anything less than 1" of sag to kind of fine tune what you like and what makes the bike ride the best. Often, with taller rear shocks you should go longer on the front end as well, but a little more height for clearance and lean angle would more than likely be just fine for you. We do recommend making sure your front form tubes are about flush with the top of your triple tree to gain the most height in the front end. Hey Paul! We would be happy to help. The AIR suspension is always a great option if you need to get super low temporarily, then air it up to a nice comfy ride based on your preference. If you are wanting to stick with coil shocks, the Revo, Revo-A or Revo-ARC will all do the trick. The 12" shocks will sit at 11-1/2" when the suspension sag is set at the max 1/2" . Or the 13" will sit at 12" when the suspension sag is set to the max 1". You are looking at 1/2" difference in ride height and for this reason we tend to recommend the 13" shocks since you are getting 1" more suspension travel over the 12", they both ride great but anytime you can add additional suspension travel it lends itself to plushness, which most people want, especially when riding 2-up often. If your bike has 13" shocks on it now then you can have the best of both worlds, installing the 13" Revo or Revo-A will keep 3" of suspension travel but get you 1" lower than you are now! 12" stock shocks do not have much for suspension sag due to the one size fits all weight range they are made for. They tend to sit right about 12" even when you are seated. Our 13" shocks will be set to your weight and when run at max suspension sag of 1" the shocks will be right at 12" for ride height. This puts you in the middle of the 3" of suspension travel the 13" shocks have and allows your wheel to move up and down correctly for your weight range. Our 12" shock will sit at 11.5" Our 13" shock can sit as low as 12" Both can use either stock front suspension or something like our Standard height Axeo. Hello thanks for reaching out! We generally steer people to the 13" shock. Our 13" and shocks are designed to be ridden with 1" of sag, meaning our 13" shocks will measure 12" bolt to bolt when the rider/passenger is sitting on the bike and they are setup properly. Because a stock shock doesn't have very much sag or "give" when your sitting on the bike, your 12" shock may not be sitting much lower than 12" when your weight is on the bike. For example, you may have a 12" shock on your bike, and that shock may only sag 1/4" or not sag at all meaning, with you sitting on the bike, you may have an 11.75" or 12" bolt to bolt measurement. In this scenario, if you were to go with our 13" shock, your seat height would remain relatively unchanged, once you have adjusted the sag to 1" and you would ultimately end up with more travel.

Hello Johndrake1966. If you have 12" shocks now, our 12" shocks will sit at 11-1/2" while seated, due to the 1/2" of suspension sag. Our 13" shocks at their lowest point will sit at 12" while seated with the max sag of 1" One of the best ways to see what works best for you is to sit on your bike with normal riding clothes and gear. and have someone measure from the center to center on your shock bolts and see where you are at. This will let you know if you prefer lower or the same height shocks. The only time 13" shocks really are taller than 12" is when you are off the bike, they will sit about 12-1/2" or so. but when you set the spring for your setup as soon as you sit down the shocks will compress to the 12" point. David- Depending on the shock length you currently have on your bike now, our 13" shocks might get you lower. For instance if you have something like a Harley Ultra which has 13" shocks, you may not be getting much suspension sag where our 13" shocks would give you 1" of suspension sag and get you lower. If you have 12" shocks now ( you still more than likely do not get correct sag so you sit close to 12" and our 13" shock would have you sitting about where you are now. Or a 12" Revo or Revo-A would sit at 11-1/2" and get you right about 1/2" lower than the stock 12" It is best to measure what shocks you currently have, Also, rest assured with our ability to convert 12" shocks to 13" or 13" to 12" that you will never be stuck with something that just does not work for you. Hey there, thanks for reaching out. We generally steer people to the 13" shock. Why? You're basically getting more shock (travel) for the same amount of money, and your seat height isn't going to change a whole lot. Our 12" shocks are designed to be ridden with one 1/2" of sag, meaning they will sit at an 11.5" bolt to bolt length when the sag has been set properly for the rider/passenger and the rider/passenger is sitting on the bike. Our 13" and shocks are designed to be ridden with 1" of sag, meaning our 13" shocks will measure 12" bolt to bolt when the rider/passenger is sitting on the bike and they are setup properly. The 13 inch shock will be sitting at about stock height.

Hey Paul, thanks for reaching out and leaving a comment. You can definitely go with a 12 inch shock. But if you want the most amount of suspension travel, the 13 inch would be the route to go. When the sag is set on the 13 inch shock, you will be sitting at 12 inches anyway because we recommend a 1 inch of sag.

John, Apologies for the late reply, We do not offer a 14" shock on the Tri-Glide, but we recommend the 13" shocks with our lift brackets which are 1.25" so this will get you where you need to be.

With changing your front wheel size, exhaust choices, and other variables we recommend checking with your local shop to work out the correct length for rake and trail to ensure the bike is stable. Changing suspension length or wheel size will need certain length adjustments and correct suspension sag to ensure the bike is sitting correctly and not too tall in the front. Copy that, our mistake on the misread. We currently do not offer a rear suspension fitment on this bike back to 2003, the cut off is 2004. Going from an assumed stock 16" rear wheel to the proposed 19" rear wheel is a good size change and this will impact your rake and trail a good deal, so we would not recommend going super tall on those rear shocks as this will further reduce your rake angle and you may find the bike unstable at higher speeds. especially without a taller than stock front suspension. We do offer a 2+ front suspension for this bike, which requires the purchase of new fork tubes. 26.25" long. But no confirmed rear suspension fitments.

The 14" shocks give the full swing arm range and when installing 14" shocks it is best to review your owner's manual and make sure your you are within in the suggested belt tension range, if you do not have an owner's manual you should be able to call any local shop for this information on your bike.

I have a lowering bracket on my bike can I still install my Revo As on the bracket or I need to remove it?

Hey Brandon- With Legend Suspension we do not recommend the use of the lowering blocks. We recommend getting either a shorter shock to achieve the ride height you are looking for or we recommend adjustable AIR suspension as this will give you the best of both worlds in terms of riding comfortable, then being able to air the suspension down when you need to park, back up or load the bike. Our AIR suspension will compress to 10-1/4" when aired all the way down. Depending on your bike, our 12" shocks will sit at 11-1/2" when your suspension sag is set to the max 1/2" sag mark. If you require lower than this, we suggest air shocks. We understand the need for potentially getting the bike lower, however, lowering blocks will far worse degrade the ride of the bike in most cases where now it is lower but is generally so uncomfortable that it isn't fun to ride anymore. The AIR suspension corrects this and gives you low when you need it and comfort and performance when you don't need to be low, like a longer ride down the highway and so on. @@LegendSuspensions I'm 5'7" 320lbs with a 26inch inseam, my factory air shocks on my 2013 Harley SG rattle my old bones, and I feel like I was beaten by a ball bat every time I ride it, had to lower rear of bike 2" touch the ground when stopping, going to try 1200 sportster shocks the softer springs should compress down to the seat height I need, just hoping not to bottom out, for under $50 pr. new, gonna gonna give them a try ")

Hello Vinh Nguyen, Thank you for the comment. Great question. On the 14 Street Glide they will come stock with 12" shocks so those will work great for you, they will sit right about 11-1/2" when the suspension sag is set to the max of 1/2" per the install guide. A 13" shock in most cases will also fit just fine as long as you have the correct space between axle nut and exhaust (depends on exhaust and exhaust cutouts.) The advantage of the 13" shocks will give you 1" more suspension travel which helps create a bigger sweet spot and larger range of adjustment. The 13" shocks having more travel will also have a bigger sag range, instead of 1/2" like the 12" shocks the 13" shocks will have a 1" sag range. This means on the 13" shocks they can actually sit as low as 12" while seated on the bike. SO you keep the same 12" height you have now but get a longer shock on the bike with more travel. kind of the best of both worlds. Main thing to consider is the bike will sit a little bit taller while not seated since the shock is longer. But since the shock is set to your weight Via suspension sag adjustment, when you sit down the shocks will start to compress to that 12" mark. If you low the height of your bike now and do not under any circumstances want it any taller, then we recommend staying with 12" shocks, if you do not think the slight change will bother you, we recommend the 13" shocks for the advantages we mentioned above. Vinh, Sorry for delay, KZbin hid some comments on us. We generally do not recommend lowering kits with our suspension due to it changing the spring rate and geometry of the suspension. If someone needs lower suspension than what the 12" shocks provide, we recommend AIR suspension for this. It compresses to 10-1/4" Apologies on the delay.
